That is a dumb saying and people should stop using it, cause it makes no sense. I mean what the fuck else are you going to with a cake besides eat it.

Purple, cause that's my favorite color. probably ether a Saber Staff, or a pair of Sabers like this new Sith guy has, cause, Cross Guard > no Cross Guard. After all, how many hands/arms are lopped off? exactly -.-

The phrase is contradictory because once you eat the cake you no longer have it, so having your cake and eating it isn't about a sequence of events, it's about trying to do both at the same time. Basically you want to have a piece of cake and eat it but still have the same cake you just ate to eat again in the future.

It's a bit of an odd phrase, but its basically used for people that want to try and have something both ways when its impossible, usually as an attempt to avoid the consequences of their action i.e you can't have a piece of cake, eat it, and then still have that same piece of cake.

Generally applied to the concept of grey Jedi because the way some of them are written its basically an excuse to give a light side Jedi dark side powers like force lightning, and allowing them to do anything a jedi or sith can do with none of the effects of dark side corruption or self-control that's required of regular Jedi, some view it as kind of a cop-out as, written poorly, it has all of the benefits of both sides of the force, and none of the downsides.

Probably by the same people that thing a Light Saber with a Cross Guard is a dumb idea and totally ignore the fact that being TRULY balanced in the Force, IE tapping into the 'Light' and 'Dark' side at will, would take more training and discipline then ether Sith or Jedi would probably be willing to undertake.

Pretty sure if we stopped using sayings that didn't make sense, we'd have some seriously stunted vocabularies. For example, if you can explain how 'what the fuck?' makes sense, I'll be shocked.

Anyway, it's pretty irrelevant. The dichotomy between light and dark is one of the key themes in the films, you can't just ignore it regardless of whether or not it makes any actual sense. This is some magical mystery space powers, and if that's how George Lucas designed it, them's the rules.

...Of course it doesn't help that it's always used by people to make bullshit Mary Sue characters either.

Well a Grey Jedi SHOULD by rights be more powerful then a normal Jedi or Sith, though more powerful =/= Mary Sue, those are the result of shitty writers.

I don't care. There is no such thing as 'absolute good' or 'absolute evil', and it's that lack of 'grey area' that honestly bores me to death about Star Wars. I mean I can sit here go over the code for both the Jedi and Sith and point out how the Jedi are hypocrites, and not really all that noble at the end of the day, and how the Sith code actually lends it self well toward a much more positive effect on those who follow, far more then the Jedi code does (or WOULD if actually followed correctly.) but the movies never address that, and aren't gonna, and with the EU 'gone', effectively can't now.

which once again reduces my interest in anything Star Wars down to the Light Sabers as the 'only cool thing' for me.

Not everything can be boiled down to or hand-waved away as, "That's just like, your opinion man." Subjectivity, she is interesting, but that's no reason to ride the poor old whore quite so hard. I respect your, what do you kids call it now, "Head Canon", I just remember what's actually been shown in film. What's actually out there is laughably thin. That you and so many others can imagine depth to it, is sweet though.

I think what you have is a lack of insightful empathy. Star Wars isn't a massive global cultural phenomenon on a lack of depth, movies with the kind of staying power the original trilogy has speaks of story and elements that people can relate to.

I lack empathy, and Star Wars is deep because so many people love it and have for a long time? Think about that for a while, why don't you. Think of all the massively popular cultural phenomenon that are no deeper than what I've claimed for Star Wars. Popular and deep are not as synonymous as you seem to insist on. Do you have a direct argument to make, or is it going to be more veiled ad hom and ridiculous ad pop?

Now considering that I've just re-watched the original trilogy, it's still fresh in my memory, I can in fact your statement about "head canon" is undoubtedly a load of steaming tripe.

Then show me how it is, don't just angrily claim it is based on your recently refreshed pseudo-expertise of having watched some movies.

That's actually the entire point of "soft science fiction" it's not that it's "soft scince" or actually science at all, it might dabble with real world scientific concepts on the surface. Still "soft sci-fi" is really more or less futuristic fantasy, no matter what dumb in universe handwaves the use to explain things that happen in the fiction. That's kind of the point, they play with basic face value concepts of science as magical fantasy in universe. It's dumb, yeah, but it's the fun kind of dumb. Basically just jargon as a thin vernier for fantasy hand wave.

Except that's not what it is. And you're lecturing me on something I already talked about. Like, seriously, do you even read what I write before responding? I'm starting to wonder. You're making excuses and rationalisations, and trying to argue with someone with a pertinent background in the related field on how electricity works is not going to get you anywhere.

Again, and I'm effectively saying this for the third time: this is why you have a hyperdrive, but you don't try and explain how it works. And the thing is, your response goes right to that. Lucas has had this problem since the very beginning, and most of his fans seem aware of it.

Seems somewhat more subtle and more business-like. Also probably much more usable as an actual light-source, which would be a big pro. Because honestly I'm probably in need of a flash-light more often than a lightsabre...

But which rules? Lucas changed them more often than his underwear. The prequels undermine a lot of the themes of the original trilogy. Why should people follow Lucas's rules if he won't?

My favorite color in general is actually gray, but only because if I had a custom mech or vehicle ala Gundam or something it'd primarily be gray (and maybe white and blue). But fuck gray lightsabers (or in actuality, silver). As far as I know that color didn't exist until Michael A. Stackpole wanted his precious little OC to be the most special-ist little flower in the whole EU.

I kind of like blue but it's a bit too common. I've always had a thing for the green lightsaber though and always viewed it as an "upgrade." Luke's "master" saber is green, Qui-Gon's is green while Obi-wan (the apprentice) has a blue one.

I also had a period where I liked yellow but green's definitely for me.

I dunno. Blue is the most common. Yellow might be a more proper reflection of my own personality. I might even do what Kylo Ren did and crack the crystal to make the beam more powerful.

But here's the thing; as a Jedi, I don't think I'd be using my lightsaber much. In the context of the films lightsabers make sense; you have people of roughly equal power going up against one another, and the only way to work out their problems is with space-dueling. But on a day to day basis? What reason would I have to use something like that? I like the idea that it's more a ceremonial weapon that still has modern applications, and some aesthetic appreciation and utilitarian use.

I'm a Jedi, though? A space wizard? I'm only going to pull out my lightsaber when I'm facing something that I can't space-wizard my way out of. And that covers...mostly anything except a Sith. Guns? Blasters? Darth Vader could deflect blaster shots with his bare hands; is there any reason I couldn't do that if need be? Or is that strictly a dark-side power for some reason? And how would I get into a fight if I could wave my hand and brainwash people into doing almost anything? Hell, even fighting things like droids and smugglers is better accomplished with something like a vibrosword. It's much less conspicuous, and people would (properly, even) think of me as an archaic throwback to a different time, and not necessarily a Jedi. Also? I'm pretty sure it's harder to kill and/or maim someone with one of those.

...Vibroswords are still cannon, right? I remember my Revan character switching between a vibrosword and a lightsaber for specifically that reason, but I'm to understand that someone at Disney didn't like Knights Of The Old Republic for...whatever reason.
