I wanted to here the thoughts on the general Escapist public, on what the most epic/scariest/funniest/inspiring soundtrack they have heard on a video game.

I like most of the songs on Rome: Total war, but i also love the songs on Half life 2

Music from the final fantasy series is my all time favorite game music. Nobuo Uematsu is pure genius. One of the greatest game composer, and music composer ever.

The Final Fantasy soundtracks are the best, though XII was a bit lacking, it was still really good just not as good as those before it.
The Monster Rancher theme for the Ranch is stuck in my head forever.
Rome: Total War is pretty good too.
Timesplitters has some good stuff.
And of course you can't forget all the ocarina tunes.

Lost Odyssey.

Oh. My. God.

I can't believe the music. Coupled with amazing writing, just hearing some songs from the dreams still moves me.

Braid has great music and I would love to have the soundtrack from Eternity's Child (if anyone knows where I can buy this, let me know!) even though the game kind of... sucks.

For just the intro, I really and truly loved Zone of the Enders The Second Runner, and owing to the fact that it uses central themes of many of my favorite anime, I have to put down Another Century's Episode 3 as probably one of my favorites as well. That said I don't really feel that either one is technically the best for video game music, that'd have to go to Yasunori Mitsuda for his work in Xenogears- and to the Xenosaga series because they're really the prequels.

I always enjoyed the creepy ambience of metroid prime games, I thought the compositions were done perfectly to make that game better.

oh, and also the rap at the start of donkey kong 64, it even had the words so you could sing along to the jungle beat...

Squarenix KNOWS how to make great RPG's and astounding blow you away music. I literally sometimes leave one of their games on (like chrono trigger) and let the music play while doing other stuff. There are not enough words to express how beautiful some of their tracks are.

FF9 (Freya´s Theme = OMG)

Tetris (oooooooooh yeah)
Medieval 2: Total War (only "Amen")

Im feeling alot of love for both Nintendo and Squareenix on this page.

I would have to agree with both company's. Somewhere between the last fight with Sephiroth and strolling through the ruined space-station in Metroid Prime is my favourite.

Any song from FF7
the one song from FFX (the title has something to do with dreams)
Theme from MGS3 (could very well be used as an actual movie soundtrack imo)

The the entire Half Life series definitely has a great soundtrack, the composer(s) are awesome. The Command and Conquer series also has some really music in it too. Frank Keplacki is great.

I really do love the BA-BA-BA-BUMMMMMM from the main Halo theme. It's a very compelling song that really suits the large-scale sci-fi battles that tend to happen whenever it plays.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night had quite a few excellent pieces of music, and I appreciated how every section of the castle had its own unique music to go with the unique architecture. The Abandoned Mine music is, to this day, the only video game music to genuinely freak me out. Luckily, that's a very small section of the castle. Happily, most CV games (excluding the N64 ones) since SotN have continued this legacy.

Mass Effect, the Metroid Prime games, the Guitar Hero games (some songs anyway), the GTA series, and the LotR games also had excellent soundtracks.

I love the Soundtracks from the Ace Attorney series, because every character has a theme that fits them, and they never re-use songs, every game in the series has a different soundtrack.
