While I am not remotely a fanboy of the series I've gotta say...

Halo, anytime the sped up version of the Main Theme kicks in while I'm playing it just feels awesome. Like in Halo 2, when you leap onto the back of the giant walking tank to take it out... that was super sweet, even if other parts in the game were just mediocre.

On another note, I really loved FFXII's soundtrack, very creative, energetic and epic in scope.

oblivion had a good OST. the fight music wasn't all that good though. it was mainly there to tell you some unseen animal had spotted you and wants to chew on your arse for a while.

freedom fighters. OMG freedom fighters. great mix of techno beats and classical. Jesper Kyd at his finest.

the MGS series. Harry Gregson-Williams is the best hollywood composer, and these games are examples why.

Martin O'Donnell for the Halo series. but mainly whoever he hired to play the Mjolnir Mix (i think it was Dave Navarro...), such a badass guitar rip.

Okami. i can't read kanji so i don't know who made it or what the songs' names are, but it's great.

The Halo 3 theme gets my vote, it is so damn epic.

And I am ashamed to admit I really like the tunes from Puzzle Quest.

Squarenix KNOWS how to make great RPG's and astounding blow you away music. I literally sometimes leave one of their games on (like chrono trigger) and let the music play while doing other stuff. There are not enough words to express how beautiful some of their tracks are.
It's a shame that most of their good composers have left the company... actually, no it's not... now that they're not so chained down, they've been releasing some incredible stuff.

As I've mentioned numerous times before (This thread has been done to death) I own plenty of soundtracks and arranged albums. To say something a little different, I'm really liking Shimomura's work on Final Fantasy VERSUS XIII [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0c8B97gfnw] (though she likes that Destati motif a little too much) and can't wait to hear the whole project.

That said, the king is still Eternal Sonata's soundtrack. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWgtRVVzvSw]

The only music in a video game that I really enjoy (and I design audio for video games) has been in Bioshock. Most of what you hear is neo-romantic music... Romanticism with the chromaticism, and therefore that which makes it truly interesting, removed. It seems to be there for no other reason than to cover up silence.

Bioshock, on the other hand, had an excellent avant garde soundtrack sprinkled with popular music of the time period, truly enhancing the mood and setting.

Pretty much all the Super Mario music is classic, but I felt they really stepped it up with Galaxy. It just sounds....epic.

Come on guys... seriously?

MGS4

Anyone? Just me? I refuse to believe that.
Weak when compared to MGS2 and 3's soundtracks. Williams just wasn't on form.

Edit: Been reading too much mona lisa overdrive.

A hell of alot of the music from Zelda: OoT gives me goosebumps. In a good way.

Especially the Song of Time.
