Gaming as a whole in recent years has tried to prove to the world that it is a valid artistic medium on par with film and should be protected under the first amendment I believe games like Lollipop Chainsaw do nothing but hurt the progress
that the medium has made of the years.
People in politics over the years have said that games are too violent and have too much sex in them and this game is blatantly throwing it in everyone face. Sure the game companies can say "its a mature game kids should not play it" But come on its a half naked chick in a schoolgirl uniform killing zombies basically every 14 year old boys wet dream.
I for one and not normally one to cry that games have too much sex and violence but this game is blatantly spiting in the face of all the hard work game developers have fought for for so long.

And yet, good games still exist and will still exist. If a shitty game were the death of the medium, gaming would have died decades ago.

EDIT: addendum - to all the Suda 51 fans out there, not saying LC is necessarily going to suck. Just that, even if it does, it won't affect the quality of unrelated games haha.

You do realize, of course, that not making something out of fear that it will lead to censorship is functionally no different than actual censorship, right?

Gaming has survived BloodRayne, it's survived Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball, and it's survived that weird bit where we were getting games like The Guy Game and wasn't there a Playboy game for the PS2?

...I don't think Lollipop Chainsaw is going to hurt anything.

Although maybe I'm slightly bias since it's actually one of only two AAA games I'm looking forward this year (the other being Bioshock: Infinite)

So? Micheal Bay still makes movies but films are still considered respectable.

This. Let the videogame designers make whatever game they want without wanting it stamped out because it doesnt match up with your idea of where videogames are headed(and think its actually going to affect where those games are headed!)

I swear, if I ever become an eccentric billionaire, I'm going to fund a ridiculous, crazy video game that has over the top violence and portrays women as sex objects ever time I see someone spout some rhetoric about "setting us back as a medium" or "hurting our recognition as an art form."

Why do you care what other people think about gaming? Practically everything is protected under the first amendment. If porn is protected (And there's some REALLY messed up porn out there), so will video games. Violent/Sexy video games are never going get banned. Do other people's opinions really affect your enjoyment of your hobby? No one ever cries about 'The Expendables' hurting the progress of the 'Hurt Locker's in film or that 'Twilight' is everything that's wrong about literature. Even people who don't like 'Twilight' will at least admit that they're happy that it at least gets people to read a book. Every person Lollipop Chainsaw pulls into gaming is one step CLOSER to video games being "accepted".

Seriously, it's a half-naked schoolgirl killing zombies!
How on earth can you call it a terrible idea?
That being said, in my opinion is what way2sl0w and Grygor posted the only right answer.

Ladies and gentlemen .... and you, yes you....

This is the reason why the whole "games as art" shit pisses me off.

I like my over the top absurd games. Some people get it in their heads that all games must now be like Journey to move the medium forward.

To them I say, piss off and leave our fun games alone.

I agree, lollipops make for terrible chainsaws... oh.
Stupid movies exist, stupid books, stupid music and so will stupid games.
Should they be made? Well certainly not for me, but there is always someone who likes a bit of stupid in their tea and thus there will always be someone to provide it.

Yes those people have some growing up to do but we also have some understanding to undertake.

The game is basically looking like a troma movie. It's exactly what you can expect if you blabber and moan all the time about how games should be treated like movies and how professional movie script writers should be in charge. In fact it is more than you deserve.

By your logic, Quentin Tarantino should give up film making and all R&B stars should just stop.

Games don't all have to be arty show-houses, or stories driven by epic narratives. Sometimes someone thinks of a crazy concept for a game (In this case it comes from Captain Crazy Himself Suda51!) with one purpose, to have some fun, something many devs are missing. House of the Dead: Overkill took itself about as seriously as Lollipop Chainsaw and that game was cooler than a cucumber could ever dream to be.

Not everything someone draws has to be the Mona Lisa or has to be put on the roof of the Sistine chapel. Sometimes you just draw a man's pork sword.

Calumon: Why would you draw a sword made of Hot dogs? :S

I take it that you have no idea who Suda 51 is? Read up on him, it'll make much more sense. Suda has a knack for taking ridiculous ideas and making something more of them.

So in order for video games to have the same artistic value and freedom as movies they should have less artistic freedom?
