Review footage reminded me strongly of No More Heroes, and I was hoping this game would come out fairly positive. It's appealing to me, for some reason. It's brass exploitation, but it seems to know that, and want to rub it in our faces. I'm intrigued. I'll have to check it out soon.

Yep, I figured this would be like every Suda 51 game I've come across - overrated.

You mean overhyped? I can't think of any overrated Suda51 game. Most of them fall into "cult classic" territory, and if you think that means "overrated" then you're on a high horse so high it's gone up your arsehole.

The whole game is SUDA51 taking shots at how fetishized anime and video game heroines have become. He has shown us a mirror to what the ecchi-otaku have done to the mediums. Everything about Juliet is someone's ideal. That is why we get eye-candy instead of a strong female lead. Those bastards have to have more nudity, more bouncing breasts, panty shots and publishers are willing to cater to them. Characters have to have some sexual kink. Hell, look at the bios of some of the zombies you kill. This guy was a furry and this guy had 3 balls. The zombies who call Juliet stuff like whore represent those who will denounce this game as sexist because of her appearance. But in today's geek culture, not having someone like Juliet can be costly. Someone who can be sexualized.

There is a reason I don't watch much modern anime.
So to show how stupid fanservice catering is, he decided to cater as well? Fighting fire with fire doesn't really...work in this scenario. Where does it say exactly that the zombies who call her stuff represent people who denounce this game? Or did you make this up? Just curious, because I doubt this game is as deep as you say it is. I mean.....its Suda 51.

To give Suda credit, he does have layers of subtext in his games because he's nearly always making a point. To also give him credit, Garcia Hotspur's middle name is literally 'Fucking' and when he wasn't satisfied with the wrestling animations in No More Heroes he allegedly performed the moves on the animators so they got a better idea of it. He tries to make critical points through analysis but at the same time he's just incredibly juvenile which bleeds through into the games, and that's what makes it fun.

I'm almost certainly getting it, just because Suda 51 puts in a lot more heart than I expect from most game devs. If it's a choice between a slightly short game made in a fairly brief time frame (When was it announced again?) or always-online-singleplayer I'll go with Suda. Least he cares about his fans.

This seems like the game spin-off that Highschool of the Dead should have got.

I'm still on the fence with this one, I completely love mad, barmy games but I dont think I would pay the full amount for it at the moment.

Despite everything that rocks about this game (I mean Tara Strong you guys, you guys, Tara Strong) I hear its only a few hours long, like 4, thats feeble as f*ck. Still its only £40 here in England which was a big shock (thats on the lower side of 50 that makes me feel good) so... maybe i'll give it a try... *looks at Tara Strong poster*... go away, I gotta go do stuff...
It's only that long!? Jesus.... if that's true I might have to get when it's cheap. But, I get to kill zombies with Tara Strong voicing the main character. :D

It's gonna be weird though, keep hearing "Twilight Sparkle's" voice when playing and all the stuff she say's. D:

Oh, you sound so sexy when you're angry.

No, I mean overrated. Many of their games have received great acclaim critically.

Hmm, the aesthetic is nice and the story is just weird enough to be right up my alley. And that dialogue at the end was pretty funny.

But damn does that combat look clunky. The normal enemies take way too many hits to kill; the button mashing would get boring really fast methinks. I'm having horrible flashbacks to The Bouncer.

And now with Grey Delise as the sexy villainess.
And we would allllllllllll buy it. Twice.
And the movie starts with Ron Perlman giving us a quick reminder about war and it's changing nature and it closes with Sean Bean telling us which season of the year we should look forward to.

This movie is shaping up, I can't wait for it to come out!
Don't forget John DiMaggio as the comic relief not-quite-a-hero sidekick!

Suda51 is a single man. Not a company. But that's besides the point.

Let's go by Metacritic: his games have, in order of release, gained a 70/100 (Killer 7), 83/100 (No More Heroes), 84/100 (No More Heroes 2), 76/100 (Shadows of the Damned), 72/100 (No More Heroes for PS3), and now 69/100 (Lollipop Chainsaw). Mixed and positive all across the board, a handful of negative. You think that's "overrated"? Or realistic?

Like I said - most of his popularity comes from his cult following. Fans love his games. And if you think fans liking games constitutes overrated, then, you're dumb.

I'm not angry, I'm just confused why Suda51's games' popularity can be attributed to anything BUT cult followings. GTAIV is overrated. The Halo series is overrated. Suda51's games? They're pretty realistically rated. Fans are audacious, and some fans are reviewers, but for the most part, people are damn fair on these games. If you honestly think reviewers are being blinded by fanboyism (or whatever) you're WRONG. I mean you're commenting on a THREE STAR REVIEW. Arguing the games are OVER-RATED. An average-playing game got an average score! IT MUST BE OVERRATED!

Suda51 is on the fringe of popularity. Honestly, he's as popular as he deserves. People understand that he's a better writer than he is a gameplay designer. People understand that it is his sense of humour that makes him, not his directorial capacity. "Overrated" is an overstatement. People enjoy his games, and respect his games, for reasons like "good sense of humour" and "attempting something unique". They are judged as wholes, as a whole, on their own merits, and get the scores overall they deserve.

Thee stars. "Overrated." Bah.

Honestly, I'm with the in the "could give less than a shit" department. I am a firm believer in the concept of whatever floats your boat. I kind of have to, I watch anime and I don't want to be a hypocrite.

But I don't go online to look at pictures of ponies. I don't go to gaming sites to look at pictures of ponies. I don't go on youtube to look at videos of ponies. and yet everywhere I go I am bombarded with it! I get it, you people like a show, go watch it instead of plastering it everywhere! Is it because it is an odd thing to like? some kind of "special snowflake" instinct? I will stop being a so-called "obnoxious asshole" when I stop having to look at the hundredth crossover MLP pic THAT DAY.

I mean shit, people! I avoid things about the show because it does not interest me, yet I can name every single pony because apparently you people can't like a show without advertising it everywhere!
It's called pop culture.

If there is a game with a lead voice actor from any recent famous thing, then that thing will get referenced in the game's thread. That's how the Internet works.

Next time when you get angry at people for making a pony reference, or seeing ponies on youtube, or anywhere else, ask yourself: "If this would have been any other memetically popular show, would I still be that angry?"

If Juliet would be voiced by Emma Watson, then you would be seeing Harry Potter references in this thread. If she would be voiced by Summer Glau, then it would be Firefly jokes.
I find this argument a bit weak. When saints row 3 got reviewed, I didnt see any soul eater or fullmetal alchemist references, despite the fact that Laura Bailey did one of the main voices.

When Gears of war 3 came out, the comments weren't flooded with references to futurama or adventure time.

My problem is that everything HAS to be about ponies! I don't understand what it is about the fanbase that makes people want to spread it like a virus. I watch anime, but that doesn't mean that I throw it in peoples faces every chance I get! If I like a show, I watch it. If I like it enough, I might even go on an anime forum to discuss it with like minded people who also like the show.

That doesn't mean that I go into every non-related forum or website that I can find and post stupid (not even funny) memes or crossover pics that exist for no other reason than to show "I'm a Brony! look at me, I'm so special that I like a show even though I'm not in it's main demographic! LOOK AT ME!"

are the feminist going to attack this game as well??
They'd attack their own reflection in a mirror.

I have to admit, this is not what I imagined from a game titled "Lollipop Chainsaw".
Then stupid guys would attack them for attacking the mirror and say that the mirror showed off guys worse.
Hahaha, funniest internet comment of the month~! Thanks for that~! xD

While I would play the game at a friend's house, I can't imagine myself buying it. It's too short for the kind of gameplay it seems to be offering. I'm all for parodies, but this one seems too close the No More Heroes (Anime, blonde hypersexualised lady) to be remarkable.

That was me trying to read into the game from an artistic standpoint. Suda went for the over-the-top fanservice to reflect what we are doing to female characters. Think, even Samus has been screwed over by developers trying for sex appeal (tight blue latex suit). I'll admit, I may be reading too much into it.

I always felt that the open-worldness of NMH was his critique on the concept of sandbox gaming. Pointing out the amount of traveling between missions and how the story progresses in a linear fashion in an open world game. I believe he was saying sandbox games are hypocritical. Then when he removed it for the sequel and gave fans the action they liked, he called out gamers for enjoying killing in games and how Travis Touchdown's action should be unacceptable in any medium. I like to think there is some method to his madness.

Granted, I also tell myself that Suda also made the Samurai Champloo tie-in game, which featured a giant mecha bear.

Why are there poniez here? There should only be things I liek on the places I visit on the internet and everyone should not like ponies because I am the centre of the universe.

Poniez are the worstest thing evur because the are the ONLY thing that anyone on the internet that people feels the need to plaster everywhere. Because there are ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER IPs out there that people spam references to, or pictures of. Absolutely none, nowhere, ever in the history of ever, which is just the things I know of and like and the those things don't count because I said so.

OT: I dunno how, but it seems kinda boring. It looks to me like one of those concepts that sounds cool, but only really has enough substance for maybe a half hour to and hour before it gets stale and you learn how shallow it is.
Maybe that's the point? I dunno.
