Obama just announced that within four years he will raise the amount of days months and years we go to school, the only upside is for the teachers who will most likely be very pleased because they get pay raises

What are your thoughts on a longer school day?

Edit: and to all the people saying "I'll be out by then", he said WITHIN 4 years, might be next year might be the year after, no one knows

It's excellent. Our schools are some of the worst compared to other developed nations and his plan makes me very happy. I'm not looking forward to having a longer school year but I know it will be good for our country in the long run.

I'm in college in 3 years, suckers! Muhahaha. Oh, well. That really sucks for kids who are still young.

I dunno if longer school years will really help.

The US's primary middle and high schools suck, let them do everything they can to improve education in this country.

You young whippersnappers, with your longer school days. Back when I was your age, we had to go 12 years to school, for six days every week and we were happy about it!

Over here their raising the leaving age to 18, whihc i think is an awful idea, the kids who dont want to be there will just fuck up for the rest of themIf they want to go into the world and get a job let them.

On one hand, the increase of teacher pay plays on my possible future career. It'd be great. But it would also be a longer work day.
The increase in time may or may not be necessary; only one way to find out.
It will definitely be a nuisance, but will it help in the long run?
Maybe it will.

Small thing: It's 'more' not 'longer'.

Also, teachers in this country get paid for the days of the year that they don't work, including summer holidays.

Exactly, there's a difference between longer school days and more school days.
Longer school days results in exhausted students, while more school days results in more education.
You can keep your job.

Depends how you see it: If you actually pay atention in school and learn since you're young, then it kinda sucks (if they actually repeated what you already learnt but developed it a bit more in high school - don't live in the US, so I've no idea about what they teach there). If you are a complete idiot and don't know how to spell, it's a better idea as they need extra education.

Well, I guess i said longer because I live in La Porte Texas, where Ike hit, and now instead of being released at 2:30 we are released at 3:00, mind you that the day starts at 7:15

Well we had to get up before we went to bed!

Sucks for all the American schoolkids, but seems a logical and much needed plan.

Longer school hours/days/weeks/months/years would mean more cash required for education. It's a nice dream to have, but everybody knows the only thing politicians do to education funding is slash the hell out of it.

Well, Im already out of high school so it doesnt affect me but I see nothing wrong, If the days are longer as well as organized better I think the students will get more out of it.If there are more days thats also a plus, teachers will get to teach more on the subject not cut down a book into 6 or 7 sections. It would do the US some good to have better education system.

HAHAHA! I'm going to be in college within 2-3 years suckers!

Jokes aside, this is a good thing, kids today don't seem that academically enthusiastic. God knows I'm not.

For me its a Meh, school is too easy for me, so its another hour or so of boredom, but maybe this will halt the spread of Innumeracy and Stupidity (i doubt it though).
