Most people in high school think that way. It gets better at college, don't worry. Circular Reasoning is very popular in secondary school.
Huh, I am suddenly very glad to live in South Africa... as odd as it sounds, here in a third world country, every person my age I know who has parents with a stable income plays video games of some sort. I have often gotten into conversations with people I would NEVER expect played video games... who also didn't expect that I did 0.o

Should've answered with "If you're a slut, why aren't you pregnant?"

Worked on more than one occasion at my high school, although I am a girl and the original insult wasn't about gaming, but still :p

Eh, they're young, they'll learn.

A few guys thought I was a coward and weak when they found out I played games too, they used that instead of the fat comment.

Idiots, all of them

Ask them how the hell do three females get out of the kitchen at the same time and just who the hell is making your pie while they are gone.

Give it a minute then ask them how they feel about perpetuating stereotypes.

Meh, if they're anything like a similar airheaded clique that existed at my high school, then odds are that their free time is spent gossipping, trying to impress people they pretend not to care about, and bingeing/purging.

Honestly, the best thing you can do is just brush them off next time they try to talk to you. Nothing gets to that type of person more than not being treated like the most important thing in the room.

I've never encountered stereotypes as defined as they seem to be in America. Around here, stereotype usually refers to knackers and its rare to see anyone else stigmatised on people's perception of a group, rather than of that one person. It helps I suppose that gaming is so popular among secondary schoolers and college students. All of my many friends are gamers, with only one or two who play casually, or not at all.

I think the correct response to this is...who cares?

Unless you're trying to bone them (which you probably will be in a couple of years) I wouldn't worry about what they think. And even then I would just pretend to care what they thought until you get them naked...wait...what? ;)

Jr High kids are probably the worst for things like this (ages 10-13), they're so obsessed with being "cool". Once you get older it's not as big a deal.

It once Happened to me.
Playing PSN On the bus with my headphones in, when all of a sudden someone sat straight next to me, and started bugging me about how : "I've heard the 3DS can kill you or give you seizours (Escuse the baby murdering spelling)!"

As to which I reply : "I don't have a 3DS, Ma'am. Can you please stop bugging me and let me get back to my Silent Hill?"

She kept slapping my ear off about "The video-games cause violence" Bullshit.
Then she started complaining about the whole "Survival Horror is too scary" Bullshit and asked to to put it away.

I then reply "I am sitting on a turnable seat, and have headphones in. I cane easily turn it around and no sound will come out and you won't be able to see it."

And then I got a bunch of bullshit rambled to me about the whole "Video-games cause heart-attacks" Bullshit (Once again). Seem's a bit stereotypical. That's the only time I can remember, by the time I got back home she knarcked to me all the age rating's and all that bullshit and asked why a 25 (me) Year old was still playing video-games. WORST DAY OF MY LIFE.

EDIT : That never happened when I was in school, hell, even on friday for our 'Reward time' (Which we got for tolerating the bullshit about quantum physic's) there was even a gaming activity, where we where aloud to bring 3 Handheld's (I alway's brought my Gameboy) and someone would ramdomly be picked to bring a console and have it hooked up, it was usually and NES but every once in a while someone would bring a pong-machine, and even rarer someone would being a virtual boy and noone would play them since they didn't want their eyes to look like something K'thulu just tore up with a jackhammer.

Bitches are bitches are bitches, my friend. On the plus side, everyone is far more tolerant of just about EVERYTHING in college. Hell, when I was in college, we would sometimes play a real life version of what was essentially Left 4 Dead/ 28 days later. Goooooood times.

I hate most living people out there..and i look down upon people who look down on gamers, they are maggots with a career that wouldn`t exceed working at the local fast-food..there is no fighting the mass that the haters represent..maybe in time gamers will be more accepted by the general population..until then i`m proud to be a gamer and i don`t hide it...and if somebody has a problem with that they can just go die in a fire, i would be happy to help them..

ps. i think moviebob discussed this in an thebigpicture episode.."magnito was right" i think it was the title..not sure though

No, most people dont think gamers are fat. If your only 12, then youv got highschool and college to look forward to, were most people are gamers in some sort of fashion.

Those girls at your school are just extremely insecure and are trying to belittle your hobbies to make there own poor attitudes seem less terrible in there own minds. Next time they ask you why you arnt fat and ugly for playing games, ask them why they dont have STDs for being sluts.

Hell, id say that 75% of people at my college play some type of video game at least 3 times a week. Even if its just farmville.

Not sure about the ugly part, but I'm far from fat. I'm 20 and weigh 107lbs (48.6 kg for you people that use logical systems of measurement).

But meh, just ignore them...

Im in yr12 in school this year and there are these 3 girls there really rude mean dumb and slutty. Anyway they asked me what i do on the weekends and i said 'I play video games and write about different topics on The Escapist'

They looked at me like i was a idiot and they said 'Why?' and i said because 'i enjoy doing it'

and then they say something offensive 'If you play games and are on a nerd site then why arnt you Fat and Lazy?'

then i said 'Why would you think that Gamers and People on the escapist are fat and ugly'?

they said 'Because you play Games'

CONFUSION

Anyway do you think that this is how people look at us?

because i get this reaction alot
If they are as dumb and slutty as you claim them to be, you should have responded with, "If I'm fat and lazy because I play games, then you two must have Chlamydia because you are whores, right?"

You don't really get that sort of people at my school, since basically every boy plays games (usually some form of CoD). The only real division is if I tell them the ungodly amount of time I've spent playing some games and if I tell them I play on PC. And even then, the ungodly amount I play only ever leads to a short mutual chuckle and the explanation that I play on PC almost entirely merely warrants confusion until I explain it to them in greater detail.

Haven't they seen the commercials for "We Dare"?

On a side note, i've always had a healthy balanced dose of fitness and games in my life.

Hell I spent two years without a public transport pass and biked a minimum of 50km a day to work and back, only to get home and play 8 hours of FFXI.

I know school can be tough, but my best advice to you is to be comfortable in what you are doing. It makes you happy, and you arent bothering anyone, so what they say shouldnt matter on tiny bit.
