With this thread, I have officially gone gonzo.
What has kept me coming back for 1,000 posts when I haven't posted more than 20 on ANY other open forum (I was into Runescape's paid forum for a while as well as my tribe's forum in tribal wars, but, I digress)?
Definitely the community. The Escapist has the finest group of individuals as its user base that I have ever seen on a website. Here, we listen to each others ideas respectfully, not feeling the same need to wage immature personal attacks as the people on other websites. Not only do we listen respectfully, but I've found we really attempt to understand the other person's views and, while not always being swayed by them, come, as a collective, closer together in understanding through such reasonable discussion. While trolls do appear in the mix, the top-notch moderators of the Escapist take care of them, leaving a peaceful place for the rest of us.
To be so enamored with this site, many may think I must be of the virulent gamer creed. While I do enjoy games and gamer culture, I am not the sort of hardcore gamer usually attracted to games sites, rarely having posted in anything but the off topic or games forums. It is not the site's focus on video games that attracts me, although I do like it, but the absolute superbness of it in almost all considerable areas.
So, even though 1,000 posts is no true claim to fame here, I felt that I should offer this thanks to both the staff and community of the Escapist for creating the site that it is. I am proud to be any sort of member of the Escapist as a community, and hope to be a part of it for a long time to come.
In addition, I'd like to here from other frequenters of the Escapist what it is that keeps bringing you back to this site. Do you enjoy it for some of the same reason that I do, or for different reasons entirely? Discuss.
