Loud music.... Is it really that much of a crime?

"Ok I'm sorry if this offends some of you, but why do Hispanics think its ok to blast there damn music in our neighborhood? Like seriously its annoying."

One of my Facebook friends posted this on her wall. Really??? Obviously it's going to offend someone, that someone being me. I am not really Hispanic, but racism is a big deal to me. What does ethnicity have to do with anything with music? This forum is not about racism, but where it applies to this situation, feel free to comment on it.

Anyways, I am not one to turn up my music all the way just to let other people hear my music, but i've never had a problem with others doing it either. It may get on some peoples' nerves, but you only hear it for a few seconds before you pass each other on the road and then the sound is gone. It's not going to hurt anyone, so if you've got a system to show off, why not show it off, right? I say turn it up and let everyone know what kind of music you like. Doesn't bother me.
Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize Hispanics had a genetic disposition to loud music.

I'd accuse you of being borderline racist, but that's not borderline, it's full blown terrible racism, and you should be ashamed of it.

EDIT: Obviously I stopped reading in disgust after the first paragraph, that's my fault, but in my defense paragraphs are ussually there to mark the completion of a thought/argument and not saying "this is something my friend posted" before that volatile statement was kind of begging for a misunderstanding. Still, it's my fault.

Well, our neighbors aren't Hispanic, but they do seem to enjoy playing the "greatest hits of the 60's and 70's" at fairly high decibels during all hours of the day, a trait my roomie and I both find pretty obnoxious as we sleep during the day to get to our jobs we work at on overnight shift...

Loud Music literally causes other people physical pain. Especially those booming bass songs. They can cause migraines and severe physical pain.

yes, I do get really angry when I have to listen to someone else's music; it's why headphones were invented.

I know right, I mean every time someone's in the car with me and we pass someone blasting their shitty rap with their bass cranked up, whoever's there with me bitches about it for the next like half an hour. I don't know what people's problem is with that, I guess I don't want to hear it either but it's not as if it matters when it's for thirty seconds while we're at a stoplight, it's nothing to ruin your day over. "I just don't get it, why do they do that? It's like they're doing it specifically to annoy us," says my friends, well I listen to loud music in my house or through my headphones, it makes perfect sense why you would want to hear your music loud. Why is it such a big deal? People who complain about loud music being annoying are annoying :/

And your Facebook friend is racist as fuck.

If i'm driving and someone nearby is blasting their music I quitely say a prayer to the demon god and wish for their car battery to die. They're a mild nuisance at best in this situation.

If i'm at home and I can hear your crappy music through my 6 inch thick walls then I get pissy, and either you'll be turning it down or i'll get the police to turn it down for you. There's no reason to be an inconsiderate asshole.

It's just got to do with being social and not bothering other people. It's just plain rude. It's really annoying when I sit in the train and someone is blasting his horrid music. And while in my case it's not Hispanics (are there even Hispanics here?), it is true that is mostly members of certain social groups who seem oblivious that headphones are invented. Just stating the facts.

<spoiler=I got a 40 dollar ticket from police for playing this really loud at 6 am in the morning><youtube=KyBhBfuXdPs>

Which is crap, cause no one even cared and afterword I had people laughing about it when we had block parties (it became a regular song). But meh.
Man, you did what I've always wanted to do.

OT: I don't care if somebody has the music in their car really loud, so long as they're just driving by and will be out of earshot after a few seconds. But if I hear it for hours on end, I'm going to get pissed (unless its 6 A.M. and somebody plays the above song. Then I'll just laugh, so long as nobody makes a habit out of it). I've got shit to do.

Like my English teacher says: Get headphones.

Seriously, if you don't have enough money to buy some cheap plug-ins(cheap doesn't mean bad, mind you), you don't have enough money for something to play music on.

OT: Hearing my little brother talk too much sometimes make me want to crack my skull against a wall. Sound matters.

BRILLIANT. Why bother reading past the first paragraph of a post to see what's going on when you can spew venom aimlessly?

OT, I think that it's alright when cars are playing loudly, because they're here and gone within seconds to a few minutes. But if it's in your personal living space and you can clearly hear someone else's music for an extended period of time, that's not OK to me. We've had to deal with the people in the apartment above us being loud or blaring Ke$ha, and it's not cool, especially if it's past midnight and you have an exam the next morning. That's what headphones were invented for.

Perhaps your friend has a predispositioned dislike of (or is racist towards) the Hispanics in the area, or maybe a group of them consistently plays loud music and they're the only ones who she's had to deal with this problem from and they won't turn it down or be reasonable. If you had to listen to someone else's music day in and day out or all night long as you try to sleep, I can easily see becoming angry with them. Yes, she may be racist, but I definitely feel as though you should talk to her about it instead of bringing it up in a public forum like this. Or you could, you know, unfriend her, if she/it bothers you that much.

Also, if she lives in America, you can tell her to call the cops on them for disturbing the peace and they'll get a ticket for noise violation, which would solve the noise problem methinks.

Thats how we start every annual block party we have now. I wake up at 5 am, hook up a giant sound system in the yard and just blast this. Its gotten to be the sign that there's a party going on in the neighborhood.

Reading incomprehension for the win?

Anyways, blasting music that not everyone likes loud enough so that you can feel the friggin road vibrating is NOT cool, and is just plain rude.

Read the whole OP mate. It was pretty obvious that it was in quotation marks.

Kneejerk reaction GOOOOO

OT: Yes, it is actually a crime. Disturbing the peace, bro. And it should be.
Yeah, that was my bad, though you have to admit the way he put that statement alone, at the front in its own paragraph, and not in quote tags was just ripe for misunderstanding, I stopped reading in disgust, though I do realize this is more or less completely my fault.

I live in Student Halls sharing a flat with five other people and when i applied i specifically requested to be put with other quiet people so that i would be free to work. Out of the six of us, including me, we are mostly quiet, considerate people who clean up after ourselves and don't disturb eachother.

However there is one person in particular who insists on constantly blazing his crappy music to the point where i can hear it in my room on the otherside of the flat, and even insists on bringing his portable speakers into the kitchen so he can listen to it whilst he cooks! The music is actually defeaning to me to the point where i have to shout to ask him to turn it down so i cannot comprehend how he stands it unless he's half deaf!

I also suffer the same problem both from residents of the adjacent flats who insist on hosting parties every other weekend and even the University itself who hosts live music at the bars 300ft away from the accomidation area!

So i say to all people who play their music loud- try and be considerate to others around you and get some better taste in music!

This. Although, inventions can be made, courtesy and respect has to be taught. Which, if you've even briefly looked at society lately, you'll realize is becoming less and less prevalent as the seconds pass.

So, whenever the inevitible happens and someone thinks it's "cool" to blast music loud enough to make me feel that I'm living directly over the San Adreas fault, I got headphones, an mp3 player and this...

The bass in this is usually good enough to drown out most annoyances.
