I don't necessarily have a problem with Vader saying NOOO at the end, but I do have a problem with George Lucas once again altering the original. I know that it is his work to do whatever he wants with it, but I mean, a movie is a movie. Once it is made, once it is released in theaters, it is concrete, set in stone. Sometimes the DVD/Blu-ray release will have deleted scenes or alternate endings, etc, but the original movie is still there. The original movies are so beloved, why keep changing them?

Meh, Star Trek is much better.

Really, now, I remember the NOOOOOOOOOO sounding kinda stupid in ep3, but i dont get exactly why people hate it that much. Anyone could please explain to me how it's so out of place ?

Is this really such a big deal? It's one word, said twice in less than a minute, not a problem whatsoever.

God. I just got done downloading the original three, untampered with. (hyperspace project). And you know what? I bought the trilogy on DVD earlier and got CGI in my Return of the Jedi so i don't see it as pirating, I see it as getting what I fucking paid for.

1: The silence added a dramatic tension of (what is he going to do? Will Darth do a good and selfless deed to save his own child?) and with the "no" you know exactly what he's thinking way ahead of time so the tension is gone.

2: I see it as assuming the audience is stupid, by either telling them what you should be hoping and feeling.

In all it just cheapens the experience. Also it's like the straw that broke the camels back. With the CGI monstrosity at the beginning.

But Tito did it better.

Also does anyone know if they released an un-doctored version of IV, V, and VI on DVD or do I have to start hitting garage sales for old VHS copies.
Lucas wont release them. But a fan based project called the Hyperspace project that you can find if you google. It's the original trilogy unedited.

It's the kind of change a 13 year old fan would make and upload to youtube. The annoying part is that because it's George, he can do it at the source at the make sure everyone sees it :-(

Maybe it's worth waiting to see if there'll be an "original theatrical" version simply remastered and put on BD in the future. Otherwise, there doesn't seem to be any other way to enjoy those films in HD.

It would appear Georgie lost his marbles somewhere in the 90's.
Problem is, when he first made the original trilogy, he didn't have complete control over his films, people questioned him, et cetera, he hated that, but that also resulted in the brilliant original trilogy. Now, however, he has proven that he can make films that bring in ridiculous amounts of money, and noone dared to question him when he made the prequels, which got to his head and now he thinks he can actually improve the original trilogy... even though he can't, he's making it worse and he doesn't even bloody realise it. Someone, please, for the sake of the original trilogy, please drag George Lucas away from the table and put him in a mental institution. Please.

I'd really like to see a high definition version of the original trilogy, an unaltered one. I absolutely REFUSE to watch the altered ones.

Like an old woman who keeps putting on more layers of make-up to stop looking like an old woman, she gets her wish; eventually she looks like a clown.

For over a decade, the fanboys have been pissing and moaning about changes to the franchise. I admire how they are still at it after all this time. I think it is very Sisyphean of them to do it.

Fanboys, I know that you are still upset that Georege Lucas did not ask for your permission to alter his intellectual property back in the day, but seriously you have got to let this go. There is no reason for this outrage to continue.

Yes, I said it. He does not need your permission to change things.

Hand Fired Fires? So what? Get over it and move on with your lives.
You can't simply dismiss it like that. People grew up with Star Wars. It built part of their lives, in much the same way as any story shapes people.

I'm not saying he doesn't have the right to change it. I ask why he feels he has to, when people already love it. And why change it to make it worse? Not a single person would mind if it made Star Wars better, but all his additions are doing is making it a more shallow experience.

It's kind of like carving David, and then putting stickers on the eyes for colour. Fair enough, now we know for certain his eyes were green, but it looks like some kid has done it.

By all means, change, adapt, remake... just for God's sake don't be worse than the original, or else it's just been a waste of time.

Oh. Dear.

Why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why.!?!?!?!?

George, we're begging you, just stop.

It was fine when you originally released it and it aged perfectly well! If you insist on re-releasing it with a quality upgrade fine, but don't re-edit the damn thign as well! </3

The original movies will not be released again until George Lucas is dead. Pure and simple, he will tinker with them until he dies and then someone else will say "Hey, I'll bet we could get a lot of money by selling Blue-rays (or next-rays by then, whatever) of the classic trilogy with nothing changed except *maybe* reversing the damage done by time on the original filmstock."

You know what the worst part is? The day those are released people who once posted in this very thread will lament that George Lucas was a genius and conveniently forget about every moronic decision he made from the Ewoks on.

Worst thing is that George think's he's an Artist, he's not. He's an Entertainer now. He doesn't understand that after Star Wars he was never an Artist. Artists create new and unusual things that push the boundaries of our experiences creating new and diverse concepts. Entertainers create things that people already want and desire, catering to their wishes.

George thinks that people want him to be an Artist, that's why the Prequels happened how they happened, he doesn't realize that they want an Entertainer. They want Star Wars, they don't want a new and diverse look at Star Wars to re-imagine it into something different.

I don't understand why he's doing this. All of the things people liked... were they there just because he didn't have enough time or money to add every little silly thing?

On DVD, yes. There is a version out that has 2 discs. One with the 'special' edition, and the normal ones.
And I'm holding on to my copy just all that tighter.

It's not the one "Noooo"...it's the questioning "No?". WTF? That's screenwriting straight out of Edward D. Wood, Jr. Lucas added a "roar" from Vader as he reaches for the Emperor before - it was unneeded but not intrusive or insulting to the audience.

This just makes the moment melodramatic instead of having what gravatas the scene had.

I still say if Lucas wanted to fix anything about that scene...explain to us how come Yoda never warned Luke that the Emperor could shoot lightning bolts from his hands? Because we know now from the prequels that Yoda knew and we've always known from Luke's actions that he believed that the Emperor was "unarmed" as he claims.

But a amateur plot screw up like that can't be fixed with CGI so....

Wow. I actually watched that clip, thinking, "Just adding a NOOO couldn't really affect that scene that much. How bad could it be?"

It ruined the whole scene.

I am disappoint.
That was my thought. It does ruin it in concept but...coudl it work...oh sweet lordy they didnt even get the voice right!

Part fo it being silent too was the fact the emperor would snap Vader like a twig if he tried to resist his actions. Vader making a bunch of noise to alert the paranoid and powerful old man to his treachery and the Emperor not reacting?

I think The Escapist needs to do an MST3k kind thing with the Star Wars changes..all of them. Im Nominating Yhatzee, Movie Bob, and that Jimquisition as the watchers.
