Just imagine if this game had P2P matchmaking.
It'd ruin everything?

I played Planetside, and there was nothing like hitching a ride on a dropship that would fly you to the action, and then JUMPING OUT and landing on top of enemy towers and bases.
Yep. That and shoving a few decimators up a BFR's ass. Right in the weak spot. It was good times.
I'm looking forward to this game. I always find that more players make FPS more fun.

Meanwhile, it'll take an hour to fire your gun after you pulled the trigger.
It won't lag that bad, I'm pretty sure all the beta testers can confirm that.

im interested in this because ive always wanted to be in a game where you are in squads instead of everybody run off in random directions

what would be cool is if there were snipers in the squads or just sniper teams sent out

I've played the MAG beta, and it was enjoyable. Hardly any lag whatsoever, though there were some glitches and bugs as to be expected of a beta. There were a few problems, like NOBODY having a mic (and that's a real problem in a game like this, especially if the squad leader has no mic), and there were hardly enough people playing at one time as the beta went on for enoguh games. There'd be like, 600 people total at once in the 3 different factions, leaving barely enough room for 2, maybe 3 games at one time, making it very difficult to get into a game.

Hopefully, when the beta goes completely public (I should in a few days I think), there will be more people and when it's released there shouldn't be a problem with participants.

It's a pretty good game and I'm excited for it.

yeah, thats nice. come back when you can have 5000 concurrent players and what FEELS LIKE A REAL LIVE BATTLEFIELD.

seriously though, im excited about mag (it plays like enemy territory and the classic battlefield games prior to bad company, so im so far past sold its not funny), but 256 players isnt a lot when you consider that planetside and huxley could support over 1000 players concurrently.

Considering I can't even get three other people to cooperate with me in L4D2, I doubt this game will fare any better.

My anticipation for this title is waning.
I was thinking the same thing. Squads? Platoons? Companies? Good luck even getting the snot-nosed 14-year-old microphone-screamer to stop throwing flashbangs at spawn in Counter-Strike; what sort of "unit cohesion" do you think you're going to get out of 128 random people on a team, rather than it turning into a giant fustercluck?

I can see this being awesome for clan-based battles and not much else.

After this they will build colonies within MAG. And soon, everyone will be living in a cyber-world, killing each other over and over again. Oh the humanity!

Still not getting me to buy it though.
Sounds like Second Life. Just with less furry porn.

I think that's what they intend, people start random, form clans, begin coordination. Want a good example? WoW. Clans can get huge and have lots of people working together
I would believe this happening in an MMO. In an online FPS, though? I can only see 128 little wannabe "Second Louies" screaming orders that no one else listens to into their microphones in between bouts of profanity because they just got shot by 22 other people.

Maybe the game will prove me wrong; I certainly wouldn't mind. But years of experience have me believing otherwise.

I'm really looking forward to MAG actually, ever since they announced it at E3 years ago. I From what I've seen it looks good, I just hope it plays well.
I'm praying that it can handle 256 players without lag, but I don't believe for a second it could handle more than that number in a single server.

Cant wait for MAG. Played the whole Beta, it was great fun. I joined a good clan and pwned in many games. The game rewards teamwork really well. If people just run around and ignore the squad leaeders objectives they get next to no points and will die ALOT (not much fun). Its also very generous on points for healing your teammates and what not. Basically theres alot to be gained from being a team player both XP and fun wise.

MAG could potentially be one of the best MP games on PS3 and thats saying something because there are some damn good ones to beat like Warhawk and Resistance 2.

It can, i've seen it with my own eyes. 256 players with no lag or framerate drops even in the most intense fights. And It's epic parachuting in and seeing the shear scale of the battle.

Source? And if you played the Beta, what type of connection do you have?
