The other day, I was thinking, if actions speak louder than words, then why is the pen mightier than the sword?

Because the person who said the second one has never dueled with a pen.

Because you aren't saying it, you're taking the time to write it down.

Because the author of the second quote forgets that the winner writes the history books.

The pen can change nations... The sword can only stab the guy who signed the paper that changed the nation.
The sword can also stab the nation, making its change pretty redundant.

I've never liked the whole "pen is mightier than the sword" quote. To many instances where acts of violence or action have had greater effects on the world that pens.

And what's the deal with lampshades? If it's a lamp, then why do you need shade?!

Friendly Fire? I would have thought that firing a weapon at someone is pretty unfriendly personally.

Jesus that has to be one big sword... Would it be like the worlds sickest shish kebab? Or a single swiping motion thus slicing people into neat little halves?
I was thinking the former, maybe have a JRPG game developer leading an army full of em.

If actions spoke louder than words then why do corporations spend so much on public relations?

The pen is mightier than the sword though. You can't get a battleship or nuclear warhead by waving a sword about but you can by waving a pen around.

The pen is mightier then the sword-- and considerably easier to write with.

Anyways, i never liked that adage. i never really liked the idea that you can end a conflict with words. sometimes yes, if its stupid. but for the most part, no. somethings gotta give.

Whoever said the pen is mightier than the sword has never seen Conan, or highlander, or Terminator, or the postman (actually probably good they never saw that). My point being those films give the message that killing the leader of a group with a big sword/gun has far more effect than a democratic petition.

It isn't quite as catchy to say "words and actions both have varying degrees of effectiveness, depending on the situation".
