This shocked me a lot, but left me in the dust with many questions. It also angered me that she allowed this to happen.
1: Why did the girl accept all of this?
2: Doesn't she know that shes having sex with a greasy old man?! (Seriously its obvious that hes 54.)
3: Of all the places to get wedded at, why in a MMORPG?! (Makes no Freaken sense)

Well, that's ironic. People of the same age keep screaming how games make children violent... but then their own generation is using games to get their libido flowing. Make no mistake, I've had some fun memories with RuneScape (no, not the tedious stuff and corny lines that drove me away from the game years ago, but the quests and holiday events. :D), but the fact that this game and others like it (and social networks) are being utilized by virtually the same people who outright demonize games and technology and the internet (and anything fun) is hypocritical, and as with this example, outright disgusting.

Putting that aside... Getting married in RuneScape... SRSLY?

I can't believe the number of the people here who are claiming that the girl was somehow responsible for this, at 13 a child is too young to be able to decide whether to have sex or not, it's clear that this sick pervert was exploiting the little girl not for her benefit but to sate his own odd desires. As I said on the other thread about this I hope he remains in the can for a long time...
My thoughts summed up nicely. Come on, everyone. At age seventeen I was making stupid decisions about sex, and that's legal in my country. As much fun as it would be going through every individual case at a time and giving the young girl or boy involved a psyche-test to see whether or not they should be having sex, the simple fact remains that if she has parents who even gives half a toss about their daughter they'd probably hate the man for life.

If I had a daughter who did something like that, I'd probably have to take a long holiday so I don't go find the guy myself.

Children age thirteen are not fully psychologically developed. Giving them all the keys to one of the most important aspects of their life, sex, is absolutely irresponsible.
If you wouldn't trust a kid with a car or a credit-card, how can you trust them to be responsible with easily the most confusing and powerful desire that our bodies are subjected to?

that's and absolute shocker. You can make a living and afford a cellphone by selling Magic the gathering cards?! Oh and the guy is a total wanker as well. The girl is a shut in who needs friends as well.

oh and i guess i can do this

Looks like his future....

I have to agree with this statement. Just because she's thirteen doesn't mean she's an innocent. If she had sex with the guy three seperate times, and he was driving to meet her, obviously she was okay with it to some extent.

Not justifying what the guy did, but what I'm gettting at is: I don't think he should be in prison for "a very long time" when the girl very certainly knew what she was doing.

He's probably a bad person, I will admit, but I'm not going to outright condemn him and say he deserves the punishment. He might have believed that he legitimately, y'know, loved the girl. It's not ENTIRELY impossible.
He's 54. Common sense learnt over 54 years of living would have taught him that marrying some girl's character in a video game is NOT a legitimate marriage regardless of how much he loved her. And unless the girl lied about her age (a lot) and looked very tall for her age he would have been fully aware of the punishment for having sex with a minor.
I don't recall ever so much as implying that he might not have known the consequences of his actions.

Just some curiosity.
Would it be morally/legally wrong if an underage girl/boy took pornographic photos of herself/himself while being younger than legal age consent. But only showed those photos to others when reaching legal age of consent. Would she/he be prosecuted for child pornography?

...and at no point during any of that did a little voice in the back of his head say "hey, maybe this is a bad idea."? Obviously not.

At 13 she knew what she was doing, people need to stop thinking that teens don't know what the hell they are doing. Yes its bad that the guy took advantage of her, but who's to say she didn't use the guy to get cool stuff. She got a phone from him, and the only reason it caught on was because the mother (whom works 3 jobs) found out she had a phone.

So chances are the girl used the guy to get stuff because she don't get much as her mom works 3 jobs and probably makes barely enough to support herself and her kid. Since there was no mention of a father and the fact she is working 3 jobs means that the girl is most likely from a broken home(meaning its not all lollipop's and rainbows).

But the way things are in todays society the dude will have one of two things happen, either made an example of (most likely) or get like 10 years probation. As for the girl, I believe she knew what she was doing, she got stuff from him and in return he got sex.
Exactly what I was thinking. Okay, maybe not exactly but the first part is. I don't see why a thirteen year old can't have the brainpower to understand what sex is and knowingly consent to it. I mean, she's most likely watched porn quite a few times(name one thirteen year old who hasn't) and knows what sex is and probably knows the joys of it(well, now she does). But seriously, they had sex 3 times. This means that either she was raped thrice and no one noticed, or she consented to it. I'm guessing she said "yes" to his sex. Doesn't matter what he looks like, hormones are going crazy at that age. Now, if she regrets it and will have psychological damage for the rest of her life, then sure, he can be charged. But if she consented and doesn't regret having her friends worship her for having sex[CITATION NEEDED] then I don't see the problem other than the parents didn't monitor their child.

It doesn't matter if she's seen porn, that's not a good excuse. She's still to young to understand the ramifications.

You ask her if she thought about being pregnant? Her future? What if she got aids?

Did she contemplate using a condom or did he have to think of that.

Did she realise it could break?

Did she understand she could fuck over her entire life?

For a phone. A 13 year old is barely a teenager, she has no thoughts of worst case scenarios.

To her, sex is a thing. To her, sex could be a way of obtaining things in life, wich it shouldn't be considered, as the path that leads to involves waiting on the corners of streets waiting for cars to pull up.

Just as you can know that a plane can fly, doesn't mean you understand how it does so.

She's still way to young to understand the ramifications of her actions and that's why this shit is ilegal.

The hell is wrong with you people? Thinking she knew full well what she was doing. Hell, by promising her gifts it was like offering candy to a little kid.

To her, she probably never thought for one second that this could go wrong, unless she was caught.
What the hell are you talking about, seriously? Do you even remember being that age? I sure as hell do, I'm only five years passed that. I have to tell you, half of those things you're complaining that she wouldn't realize are also things MOST PEOPLE don't think about, whatever age they are. Besides, in terms of sex? That's not some nebulous concept to a thirteen year old, I knew all about it. In the end, what they're saying is that there is a factor of a lack of information. What we don't know is how she reacted, or what she thought, or what she believes.

Maybe she was hispanic? I've got a thirteen year old cousin who looks AT LEAST 16. It wouldn't be hard to delude yourself after that right? Except well no, I can't honestly understand what he was thinking.
xD.
