It's about damn time.

Trolling movie, game sites, or youtube is one thing, but trolling the grieving is despicable.

ALL RISE FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM!

I love how alot of people who have never been to the UK have shown up to spread anti-british hate. Thanks for that! You totally know what you're talking about!

I don't like trolls. ... But I'm having a hard time believing that someone is going to jail for it. Any society that puts people in prison for being a dick is a society that's in deep trouble indeed.
Yeah, except this isn't trolling, it's harassment. 'Pretty sure that's against the law in America as well. Just because some bastard harasses people, then calls it trolling, does not suddenly make harassing someone over an electronic medium more excusable than harrassing them in the real world.

Honestly...

Seriously? You'd seriously rather someone be punched in the mouth than having to go through a trial?
Uh, yeah. Seriously. I explained essentially the same thing in an earlier thread but I don't mind covering it again here. Actions have consequences. Getting a shot in the chops for being a raging asshole is a consequence for being an asshole. Am I advocating that we all go around punching everyone we don't like? Of course not. I'm just saying that if it does happen, and you were clearly being an asshole, then maybe you were asking for it and maybe you shouldn't be surprised that it happened.

Are you telling me - and think really hard about what you're advocating here - that you're okay with clogging up the courts and sending people to jail for being an asshole on the internet?

I don't think so. I'm not sure on this one but last I heard the Westboro Baptist Church - those are the God Hates Fags people - still have the right to picket the funerals of dead US soldiers. You can't tell me that's any worse than what this guy said.

It may be harsh, but I'm not going to feel bad for the guy. He was being a dick. Eventually dicks get what they deserve

Then again, I don't think the U.K> constitution gives free speech and such... Since it's under a monarchy. So it's probably whatever the king or queen decides.
This is a totally uninformed view on the UK. We're democratic, with a little figurehead we like to throw around for tourists.
We vote for someone in our region from a certain political party. Whomever gets the most votes in that region gets that 'seat' in parliament. This happens for a few hundred regions across the countries and whatever party gains the most seats is the government. Though every law is voted on by the parliament, everyone who has a seat votes. The governing party just sets up the 'cabinet' - positions of importance like foreign defence secretary, chancellor of the exchequer... and so on.
Though atm we have a joint party since no single party got a majority, so the cabinet is made up of people from 2 partys.
This is severely dumbed down, but the part that the Queen plays is to sign her name at the bottom of laws that are voted through by parliament. She COULD say no to any law, but that wouldn't happen as it would be too complicated, either meaning dissolving parliament and going into total monarchy, which wouldn't work, or that parliament would use the powers of the Parliament Act and vote out the monarchy. Yes, they can do that. The queen's just a tourist attraction.

Also, we all have the right to free speech in the UK, we have for hundreds of years. The author of this article has the American view of you can say 100% of whatever you want and not be prosecuted for it. However, UK has a view of you can say what you want as long as you don't break laws, for example incitement to religious hatred/incitement to racial hatred. Hate preachers are illegal as they encourage violence towards others and such.

It has to be accepted that in a civilised society we have to take responsibility for our actions. This man acted in a way that is at best completely juvenile. Us internet users are perhaps desensitised to the happenings of things like this, but if you walked up to someone and started hurling abuse at someone such as 'I raped your dead relative' - you can't expect to get away with it. If police were present it would be a breach of the peace at least.

What he said went beyond what most consider "trolling".

This guy wasn't exercising his free-speech, he was saying horrible, vile things and although I scoff at the notion of cyber bullying, this guy deserves a few months in chokey.

Disagreeing with the Status Quo (although they are a top band!) is exercising your free speech. Having an opinion on something is freedom of speech.

Saying you fucked someone's dead child is not exercising your free speech...what it is, is being a **** and I for one hope he is buggered in the showers.

A lot.

"Why is this not done everywhere in the world?"

Because the jails around the word will get incredible full.

Another reason for Yahtzee not to return to England

On a serious note, British slander laws are incredibly easy to hold a trial for and get CONVICTED for. They apparently don't have much tolerance for anyone saying anything. Shit, it's like 1984 over there
And if I read right it just recently got even EASIER to be held liable for saying something that might possibly offend somebody who wasn't present at the time. I really wish that were a joke, too.

How ironic would it be if his cellmate was in jail because he really did fuck a dead child.
I think yiu are mixing up "Irony" with "Fucking wrong"
Bolo, though the topic is morbid, you almost caused me to do a spit take on my laptop.

I don't have the slightest sympathy for this dirty, evil-minded fuck. He deserved to be punished and I'm glad someone decided that his behavior was unacceptable enough to warrant jail time. Scum like this are the reason that I've come to believe freedom of speech is overrated.

Saying you fucked a child that was just mauled to death by a bull mastiff to those grieving is about as bad as walking over and pissing on the kid's open grave during the funeral.

I am glad he was arrested. I personally hope he tries his trolling activities to those in jail to get a ruse, then suffers the consequences of that as well.

And this just goes to prove that being on the internet does not give you full immunity to what comes out of your mouth. If you say something bad enough, they can and will find you.

On the by, I'm wondering what sort of pictures were sent to the neighbors. No details were given.
