For those who are talking about how messed up this is, my immediate guess would be that there is a perfectly sane and rational explanation involved. That explanation is gambling. People will gamble over video games, and people making wagers over fighting games and the like is not all that uncommon. I'm not sure how such things would be done with Madden, but I'd immediatly guess the guy was caught cheating during a paticularly "hot" moment when there was a decent amount of money (for the people involved) riding on it. People get shot, knifed, beaten, and even tortured to death over gambling, and for some rather insignifigant amounts of money. If the guy was killed over a game of poker or Mah Jong or whatever nobody would even bat an eye.

A few hundred dollars on the line, plus this guy being a regular big winner when they place friendly wagers, combined with the discovery that he had a way of cheating which could have applied to any number of previous wagers... yeah, that could get ugly really fast.

Yet more fodder for the media to say "Video games are bad." Honestly, I can see the arguing, but to go as far as killing like that? Alcohol was involved somehow, I know it.

I'm tempted to say lol bros playing sports games, but instead I have to say lol purple woman's bike. All in all, maybe we shouldn't try to bring splitscreen back.

"He said that police found German lying in front of a house and, although he had no external injuries, he wasn't breathing. An autopsy revealed that German had 'severe internal injuries'"

Imagine that... The dead man with no external injuries had internal injuries... Here I though the died of remorse due his horrible internal turmoil after cheating while playing what was already one of the stupidest games frachises.

I hope this is in the news because of the sheer stupidity of these people and not because someone thinks video games are to blame for this moron's death. Anyone who would have all their friends over (all three of them) just to play Madden sucks at life. Anyone who would then cheat at said game, sucks worse. People who kill their friends because of it... well, thank you for taking him out of the gene pool, but you suck equally hard, and not in the good way that I pay for every saturday night.

Let it be known...any political person with power should know that this incident did not happen because of videogame violence but for the simple fact... that foot ball is violent...if you want to blame anyone for this blame football!!!
I can already see some old boy political on a news station...

"Clearly it was caused by violence in the game. The guys playing the game were influenced by the on screen animations to recreate the events of the game. However not wearing protective gear, one of them was killed. Ban vijeo games! This is just another example of how they're ruining our youth. Madden is just as bad as Grand Theft Auto and cocain."

Bunch of idiots, but I doubt they're going to use this as an example of video game violence, because it's a football game. Sports are healthy! It's crazy people that make sports violent!

All this violence over a football game. Jeez. It's just a videogame. I guess some gamers take gaming too seriously.

I know this is in bad taste but when I read :

"Four guys were playing Madden together when a fight broke out over cheating and one of them is now dead. "

I thought it was a mystery like plot ala Agatha Cristhie... But now I just see that it's about a few guys who've provided enough wood for a bonfire in which to burn any defense the Gaming attourneys might've had about games being harmless and not inciting violence...

I hope that guy rests in peace and the killers get caught.

I say death penalty for all 3. Seriously if you will fight or take a life for such an insignificant thing then you shouldn't be alive.
And what the hell will the death penalty do? Bring the dead dude back? Sure as hell not. Who are we to decide who lives and dies? An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. If that person is crazy and killed someone does that mean we should stoop to his level? In fact, a greater punishment would be letting him rot in a prison cell and think about what he did. Do you have any idea what your conscience can do to you? It will be torture for him and a much bigger punishment than death. Death, in fact, is an easy way out considering he won't have to face anything he did since he'd be, you know, dead.

OT: Throw them all in a maximum security prison and let them rot. Not before a psychological evaluation though.

Great job guys. Why don't you just beat him to death in front of the supreme court building while you're at it?

Beat your friends in the game, not in real life. And if they are cheating to that level and won't stop, maybe you need to just not play with those people anymore.

Why is it that some gamers cant get their shit together, especially in a time of crisis like right now with the governator?
