Apparently he put pillows around the infant so he couldn't crawl off, which is when things turned tragic:
Man is an idiot. I thought everyone knew not to do that.

Yeah blame the game, not the fucking idiot.
If you looked at cracked.com, WoW is just a giant skinner box. It's Blizzards fault for creating a giant mind prison that reminds me of Inceptioan and the father's fault for playing it, valuing the game over child, and becoming a slave to it. It's possible for him to get off if he pleas insanity, I mean it's pretty obvious that everyone knows what WoW really is, a slaver that puts a chain on he player and never let's them go. I can't believe I'm saying this, but let Jack Thompson have a field day with this case and shut down WoW. Who knows, if pulls it off we could herald him as a hero as Blizzard loses their cash cow and players are freed.
I honestly hope you are being sarcastic, or at the very least, you are just being hyperbolic, because that is absolutely crazy. People get addicted to video games all the time, WoW isn't the only one. It is this man's job to have the willpower to care about his own child, who actually exists. This isn't the game's fault at all.

According to Assistant District Attorney Katie Udy, "He wanted to get back to his game because ... there's no way to pause it. Andrew Warner left that pillow over Brendin's head."
exactly, both the developer's and the idiot father's fault (though more blame simply lies with the father. much more. damn idiot, someone who gets that engrossed in a game like WoW has something wrong with them...)

blizzard, zynga, and all those other studios who make their games so addicting (on purpose) that people won't bother to put it down even if their infant child dies.... they are evil and i will only pirate games from them from now on. (kinda useless in xynga's case though)

EDIT: Again reinforces the superiority of the singleplayer games

If Warner is found guilty, he could face ten years for involuntary manslaughter.
I'm going to sound like a bad person., but this is why I believe we need to bring back Lynching. And that you need to take a test to be a parent. OR even breath (EDIT: not intended to the kid).

I've said this about WoW, and I'll say it again: When a game, you're supposedly trying to have "fun" with turns into an involuntary arrangement (ie a fucking job), you know that it's time to stop playing.

Ugh, this is just so, so sad.

... Wow. He probably wasn't buyin ghte kid food and instead using all of his money on getting a PC rig too.

Fucking bastard.
he coulda spent that time and money putting smiles on that kids face. and on his wife's face as well

...which has its own benefits that are much better than any game can give ;) this is why whenever i hear my fiance's voice, i will literally drop the controller and put all my attention on her

(i once mentioned her ability with a pickle)

still, MMOs should have a way to be paused. that's something that's always annoyed me because i can get randomly called away and lose everything in them

I feel bad for everyone... the guy was careless, but it's not nearly as bad as some of the others (wasn't there a woman who played Farmville and let her children go without food/water for like 3 days?). guy sits down, plays long ass marathon of WoW, tragedy strikes. the guy should be charged with neglegence... but damn... it's just horrible... there are much worse people who get off much better than this guy...

How is this WoWs fault? This man is just a bad parent. He could just as easly been watching football or something and this could have turned out the same. Blaming WoW is just an excuse.
Mass media feed and love this kind of material its what keeps them running.

Blaming a game is such an easy thing for mass media to do and just as easily get away without justifying anything.

The thing that really annoys me about this is that when the baby was crying he ignored him and carried on playing. Seriously, I didn't know a pillow on a child's head could suffocate them, but surely when the infant started crying the father should've checked on his son?

Another tragedy caused by WoW. I'm really getting sick of all the shit that game causes. I tried it once and it wasn't to my liking, while in the meantime two of my friends were totally hooked, neglecting their spouses and responsibilities (sp?) and arguing there was nothing wrong with them playing it.

Come on guys, shut down the WoW servers for a day and see what happens? I really don't want anymore news of infants dying and people starving to death because of this damned game!

My heart goes out to the family, but not the guy, he can rot for all I care.
While some blame could be placed on the game, the majority of the blame goes to the idiots who have no self control. When I played the game I still made time for real life, and I didn't let it rule me.

OT: A prison sentence is too good of a punishment for this jackass. There is no excuse, 'lack of pause' or not for allowing this to happen. Such horrible parenting.

Look, don't you find it a bit hard to believe that a man will just think "Well my son's dieing, but shit I gotta finish this raid."

I think there's a good case to be made against WoW, assuming this isn't just a case of one man's gross negligence. Perhaps its time we analyze Wow for its potentially dangerous addictive qualities.

AT first, I thought this was about a stern disciplinarian teaching his son the ultimate lesson for playing WoW:

"Man Let Son Suffocate Because He[the son] Was Playing WoW."

This turned from the Father being Lawful Evil to just Chaotic Stupid.

It was a while ago but the report I read on here said the woman shook her infant because he wouldn't stop crying while she was trying to play farmville, she stopped, had a fag, shook him some more and went back to her game, not even knowing when her child had died. It may not be the one your thinking of but it was the first that came to mind. Either way, both are equally vile.

Making false statements to investigators, that's referring to his claim the kid just somehow died right? Not something he said once he was being looked at as criminal suspect?

I hope his raid group was made of tools who needed on all the drops.

Just in case the whole going to jail for killing children doesn't get through his head.

i feel like a bad person because despite this tragedy he first thing i thought was "if my sister reads this she won't let me babysit her children anymore"
this guy may not have been as bad a parent as this makes him appear but if you have children you have to accept that they have to come first over EVERYTHING else for at least 15 years. WoW was just what occupied him at the time but if he did not check on his crying sin he could just as well have been obsessed with raising puppies.

I'm not denying that most of the blame lies with the idiot parent but the game is still somewhat culpable. I definately agree that there is no excuse for what he did, especially as he's trying to use such a pathetic excuse.
