I hope his raid group was made of tools who needed on all the drops.

Just in case the whole going to jail for killing children doesn't get through his head.

i feel like a bad person because despite this tragedy he first thing i thought was "if my sister reads this she won't let me babysit her children anymore"
this guy may not have been as bad a parent as this makes him appear but if you have children you have to accept that they have to come first over EVERYTHING else for at least 15 years. WoW was just what occupied him at the time but if he did not check on his crying sin he could just as well have been obsessed with raising puppies.

While some blame could be placed on the game, the majority of the blame goes to the idiots who have no self control. When I played the game I still made time for real life, and I didn't let it rule me.

OT: A prison sentence is too good of a punishment for this jackass. There is no excuse, 'lack of pause' or not for allowing this to happen. Such horrible parenting.
I'm not denying that most of the blame lies with the idiot parent but the game is still somewhat culpable. I definately agree that there is no excuse for what he did, especially as he's trying to use such a pathetic excuse.

I really hope this is an April Fool's joke, and if it is, it's a VERY cruel one...

Nobody else is blaming the game except this retarded mofo. The court isn't about to help him get away with this by allowing for a temporary insanity defense or some shit. This guy is going to be spending the rest of the best years of his life behind bars, if he doesn't get killed by the cons who would just as soon not have anything to do with a person who can't take care of their own child.
I volunteer to be first in line to kick this guy in the nuts. I estimate at least 100 people giving him one swift kick will take away any desire or ability to have further children. Who is with me?

Real life children don't start over in the graveyard. If this ever happened to me, I would quit the game forever. Hell, I'd quit gaming if I had such an addictive personality that I refused to get up with a child crying and suffocating in the background.
Way back in the day, I was enjoying an engrossing session of Doom, when my Dad comes in and tells me my mother had just had a heart attack. She came out of it okay but it was at least a year before I touched that game again.

We all know it was bad parenting over WOW being at fault. But the world won't see it that way.
"I didn't stop because you can't pause the game"
Yea well you can't 'respawn' in real life but he didn't think about that did he.

Some people seriously shouldn't be allowed to be parents.

I have a sick feeling that it didn't play out like he said it did, I think the baby wouldn't stop crying and his blind rage resulted in a murder. Maybe that's just my inner cynic but the way he tried to lie is making him look more suspicious.

That poor mother, I hope he is firmly punished and she leaves him to find a better man and try again (someday).

As I've said so many times, it's not the game, it's the people that play the game. Had it been any other game, he would probably have been just as likely to act the same way. I'm willing to bet that the guy drinks heavily and has other addiction issues.

Who the fuck puts pillows near a baby? Who is that stupid? I'm 19 and I know that. I don't get these people that get addicted to a game like that, honestly, wtf? Those people have issues. Sure, love the game you play, enjoy it, DON'T REVOLVE YOUR LIFE AROUND IT!

...Yeah, even though I hate WoW with every fibre of my being, it's definitely in no way the game's fault. It's about priorities. If you're babysitting a child you have to pay particular attention to it.

No one said having a kid was going to be easy. Children require a lot of sacrifice. And this story in particular makes me sick to my stomach because my cousin and her husband are just as neglectful to their two babies.

There is absolutely ZERO blame to be placed on the game. That is just as well saying that anybody is not responsible for anything they do that leads to neglect of their own children.
It would have taken this guy less than 1 minute to get off from his chair, check on his child when it was crying for help, and maybe bring it into the room where he was for better monitoring. If that meant his party had to wait for that long, too fucking bad.
There is NO EXCUSE for what he did, not even a tiny bit.

Honestly I think he might be trying to get the blame pushed off of him, and onto Blizz or something like that, but this is my theory, if it wasn't WoW, it would have been something else, maybe the father did care enough for his child to keep him from suffocation, but the fact that he was easily distracted meant that it could have happened wether he was texting, doing bills, or any other activity other than playing WoW.

Come on guys, shut down the WoW servers for a day and see what happens?
Oh, oh, oh, I know! People will either commit mass suicide (joke version) or realize the void that playing WoW has created between themselves, other people, their well being, and their finances and decide to quit playing WoW and go on to cure cancer, solve the energy crisis, end human dependence on oil, and revolutionize space travel(real one, I don't joke)

o_O You know what? If nobody came right out and told me, I wouldn't move the pillow off my child's head. I sleep buried every night under thick blankets and pillows, so I wouldn't be miffed to see a child like that as well. I really don't see this guy as being all that bad-- children being able to suffocate from a pillow isn't something I consider common knowledge
You have got to be joking. "Not common knowledge?"

Who doesn't know about this? Its literally one of the first things you learn when you have to watch kids for any reason.

Neglecting the child to the point that they die is just the same as if he shook the child to death. Frankly he is getting a light sentence for the neglect alone. But that's our system, folks.
Besides, the autopsy would have found evidence that he had actively caused the child to suffocate.
