I love the amount of serious in this thread. If I still had a soul I'd laugh.
Edit: Shit, this was a serious story assuming the source doesnt have a fake timestamp. I'm a terrible person D: !

According to the indictment, Andrew Warner knowingly allowed his child to remain in a position where his breathing was obstructed, causing the infant to suffocate. The child's death was caused by the father's conscious disregard that "constituted a gross deviation from the standard care a reasonable person would exercise,"

Drew had Brendin on his stomach because he was raised himself that way and it was how he was told to raise his children, this was to prevent choking on spit up and vomit particles. Unknown to him was that this position was changed as it can be a suffocation hazard.

I think that its a really tragic thing to happen but the basic story is that this man was neglectful of his child. When you are looking after really young children you can't do things that take your time up, you have to be attentive.

There are plenty of instances of this I think sadly, it's just more intresting for the media if they can blame it on the evil computer game.

I feel really bad for the mother, poor woman.

It's thrilling to know there are so many perfect parents on the Escapist! I certainly had no idea. Being the father of a 44 day old girl I can empathize with the man, at least to the point where I'm not assuming he was some raging loser who was hell bent on ignoring his dying son's cries.

Someone mentioned 'babysitting'. Being a parent is not babysitting, it's running a marathon while trying to carry on life on the side. I have two major scars on my body where my wonderful mother was 'negligent'; I have a vicious V on my right middle finger from when I tried to fish my sock out of the vacuum cleaner, and a long scar down my left leg from a Pepsi bottle that I picked up and dropped in the garage.

We almost had a horrific incident six hours into my daughter's life; she was resting on my wife's chest and suddenly threw her head backward and to the side (her neck has been so strong since day one). I was sitting on the opposite side of the bed and I nearly vaulted over my wife, who barely caught her legs as she headed to the floor.

"Horrible mother rips skin off infant son's hand, only concerned with cleaning house."

"Absent minded new mother allows day old infant to fall five feet head first onto concrete floor."

I think the problem is people aren't understanding that the man DID NOT KNOW that the baby was suffocating.

The problem is he was too involved with the game to be bothered CHECKING if the baby was okay.

Hearing a baby crying isn't exactly an alarm that says loud and clear "OH GOD THE BABY IS DYING DROP WHAT YOU'RE DOING THIS SECOND AND GO SAVE IT"

Babies cry all day long, all week long, all month long, about anything and evverything. They might look at their toes and suddenly find they scare them.

While I personally would get up and check on a crying baby right away, I can see how 10 years in prison are VERY undeserved in this case as the guy clearly cannot read minds and did NOT know the baby was dying, at worst he probably felt it needed a diaper change. Not exactly a life threatening problem needing immediate attention.

To sum it up? Terrible accidents happen. Next time put the baby in a crib.
Finally, someone with a level head.

It was a horrible accident and a mistake that anyone could have very easily made. He isn't a bad parent that deserves to be mutilated and killed for this. I can only assume that the death of his son is enough, and the jail time is probably next to meaningless compared to the loss of his child.

I'm just wondering whether the child was still alive when he went to the bathroom. If it was, and the kid was struggling... man, that's bad. This is really, a terrible, terrible mistake.

No pause feature? That's not an excuse. A person's (including children's) life ALWAYS comes first.

Believe the headline should read Man Let Son Suffocate Because He's A Massive Fucking Idiot.

Seriously, this is why we need a test before we let people have kids.

Can't we just get a pause button? then you guys don't have to keep defending it because someone can't pry their eyes off of it.
It IS the parent's fault, but WoW wasn't helping. MMOs tend to have this problem. Fun, Really fun, So fun you'd rather keep playing then check on your baby because you might 'die' ingame.
This is what they are made to be. Intoxicatedly fun.

It is a Fucking shame when they don't add a feature and children die in real life because of it.

I honestly can't say I wouldn't be lazy enough to do the same thing. Then again, I'm not ready to be a father, like this man.

You are playing at the same time as other players online in real time. How the fuck would they add a pause feature? Walking away from the game is something normal people find no problem doing. No one cares if you die in WoW, there is next to zero penalty.

MMOs don't have the issue of being to fun, this guy had the issue of being an idiot of the highest order.

OH WELL WHAT A SURPRISE, THIS IS ALL VIDEOGAMES'S FAULT! YOU PEOPLE SHOULD BE ASHAMED THINK OF THE CHILDREN, OH WHY WON'T SOMEBODY THINK. OF THE CHILDREN.

Anything to add, comrades?
I'm sorry, but I just cannot take this seriously in the slightest with that avatar. It's just... too... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

It's perfect.

On topic; what a tragic story. Like others have said, I don't think that WoW is strictly the problem; Live Football would have had much the same result with this idiot. That said, I do feel sorry for the full family including him.

Damnit! That's why we need our govirmintz to put tabs on our babby.

Also this could all be prevented if all the games were banned like ever.

You heard me Washington, HOP TO IT!

Personally, I think blizzard should ban this bastard's account, just to add insult to injury. I mean really? What the Hell was he doing? How hard would it have been to hope on his flying mount and scoot 10 ft into the air to go check on his son? Even in a raid or pvp situation, there's always a chance for respite, even if it means death, considering, you can most likely come back without a hitch, you may be short a few gold but...I'm pretty sure that paying 10 gold to keep your god damn son alive is a a worth-while price...

/end half-rant.

See infatuation like that is the reason I left the game. I do feel horrible about the loss for the family. It is not Blizzards fault but those of us that choose to not self police or monitor our own addictions and let a game/drug/or bad habit become part of us and then look in the mirror playing the victim card. I truly feel bad about this situation and its a sad look at how games negatively can effect lives.
