Really. Every major retail outlet has procedures in place for this sort of thing. They all say, "Cooperate and let them take what they want." $7000 is nothing compared to the loss of the clerk's life if he were to be shot. Insurance covers the lost goods.

That said, this does sound fishy. Gunman outside? That's not much of a threat; a real threat would be showing a gun, ANY kind of gun. How many people would believe him? And 100 copies? That's a lot to carry -- certainly more than even a dolly could carry. He had to have made two trips, in which case you duck under the counter and call mall security.

?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
WHAT?!
THE?!
FUCK?!
How do you...?
What was he...?
Where did he...?
So, what? Did people he was walking past in the mall or out in the parking lot think that this guy was one rich motherf***er and just turned the other way? I mean come on. Unless he was wearing a mall security outfit or something like that, I would've thought that a little suspicious.

I work at a bank.

A man enters the bank, and says,
"Give me all your money."
Guess what he gets?
ALL my money!

It's bank policy, but reguardless of that, it's not worth the risk of life (for an hourly wage, at that) to call anyones' bluff for a product thats' development cost is 80%'ish the cost of the sales price.

Besides; that shit's insured! ;)

The GameStop employees probably did the smart thing by erring on the side of caution, but come on. You're really just going to let a guy rob you because he says his friend outside has a gun? Really?

Really?
It's America, everyone has a gun.

Why wouldn't you expect to be shot over there?

O_O -_- O_O <--- (Thats blinking in amazement by the way)

Wow... Just wow. But like others have said, he must have had some inside help. Either that or had scoped the place out in advance and had this thing planned out. As for the people telling saying he should have called the bluff... Thats just wrong, why risk your neck for a stack of games? At a minimum wage job no less. Odds are your life is more important then what he got away with and dont forget the store probably has insurance for that kind of stuff.

1) I don't own that store.
2) I don't get paid enough to defend that store
3) I promise you that the Gamestop company policy tells them to do exactly what they did because every major retail chain has that policy. It's cheaper for a company to replace some stolen merchandise than deal with lawsuits over injured or killed workers.

Those games will most likely end up being sold on the street or in a pawn shop. Hopefully they'll find him but if they've got nothing to go on after the guy walked out of a mall with all that, I don't hold out any hope of catching him.

I bet the clerk was in on it, that's what I would do for a free copy.

Though that guy maxed out his charisma stat unlike me, who foolishly buffed dexterity -_-
I have the same feeling there. Really, if it wasn't on camera I would fail to see any reason to believe there was a theft at all. If the clerks did it they could easily get away with it. If they weren't on it they would have to be... I can't say the word... the words fail me while reading this article a second time. *Starts to weep*

its a situation where if your call someones bluff, you never know, you could get killed

better to just give him the stuff, and let the cctv and the police catch it

companies have insurance for this kind of thing, unfortunately they dont provide corpse insurance, if your dead, your dead

i think the staff acted in the best way

first paragraph is spot on

second, well, yeah your right, it is 100% fishy, but look how serious things like airport customs are, you only need to whiff a joke about bombs or terrorism and your in quarantine for a day

unfortunately when ppls lives are concerned, there is no risk to be made

we should be blaming the police for not catching them, surely to god they have CCTV footage

Meh, it was GameStop. They probably asked for it.
They so did.
Yeah I know, retail employees are really the scum of the earth aren't they? I mean they should be doing other stuff and...all right yeah I can't keep being sarcastic about how stupid you sound.

Anyway in regards to why they didn't try and call his bluff, it's pretty much retail protocol to not try and be a hero because the store usually is insured against things like this and therefore nothing is really lost.
This. Human life matters more than products. The training video for when I worked at Walgreens (and it's more than likely it says the same everywhere else) is to ALWAYS follow the demands of a robber, because you never know what they're capable of. Who's to say HE didn't have a gun either?

Please people, keep your hatred of Gamestop out of this. If it was another company, like, EB Games (they have it up in Canada, for those who don't know) or hell, even a smaller, insignificant game seller, no one would be insulting them at all. They're just doing what they're told to do in a situation like that. Would you rather die than give up money, a game, or anything else? Think before you post, morons XP
You do know that gamestop bought out EB-games like 5 years ago, right?

Seriously, how did he get out with 100 MW2 cases? He must be a magician of some kind.
"and for my next trick, my friend out side will shoot you if you don't give me 100 cases of that new modern warfare game!" I bet, he did it because you play as a terrorist in one level and he didn't wont it "corrupting the youth" or something equally flowed.

Huh....so its that easy? That guy is pretty fuuuunny though.

Would have been better if he tried paying for it but only got to $45 so he told them he'd shoot them if they didn't give it to him.

Crikey, Now that is damned impressive. Just goes to show what you can get away with, if your confident enough...
