Man Tries to Play Real Life Frogger, Loses

When people try to act like videogame frogs, they only end up getting hit by cars.

We all knew it was going to happen eventually. Reports out of South Carolina are saying that a 23-year-old man tried to play a real life game of Frogger, and was hit by a car in the process.

Luckily, the man survived and was taken to the hospital where he is in stable condition. Frogger, developed by Konami and released in 1981, featured a virtual frog whose goal was to cross a crowded street and dangerous river to make it back to his froggy habitat. He had to contend with bulldozers, trucks, race cars, snakes, alligators, and submerging turtles along the way.

Police say the man was discussing Frogger with his friends and got the brainy idea to try it out for real. Police chief Jimmy Dixon revealed that the man yelled "go" and made his way into oncoming traffic on a four-lane highway.

George Costanza once from Frogger high score [http://www.amazon.com/Seinfeld-Complete-Jerry/dp/B000VECAEE], and had his Frogger arcade machine destroyed by a truck in the process. The man was at least lucky enough to not be destroyed, but he was hit by an SUV instead. The driver of the vehicle does not face any charges.

This event proves one thing: Videogames can have a negative effect on people who associate with virtual frogs. Therefore, perhaps the menace of Frogger should be stricken from our history before it causes any more damage.

I don't know what surprises me more:

1) It took almost 30 years for someone to do this.
2) Someone was inspired by Frogger and actually DID it.
3) Someone inspired by Frogger did it and it was on the NEWS.
4) That Darwin has somehow failed me.

This is what video game violence does to people. It must be stopped.
Frogger must be banned throughout the world before more driving accidents occur.

I can't wait for someone to try to jump over a rolling barrel and wipe out.

The real losers in the equation is the video game fans as this issue of stupidity is going to be repeatedly cited as the negative influence in games.

Biggest fail though is that the guy driving the SUV who hit him DIDNT kill him. I mean how can you hit someone with an SUV and NOT kill?

From the eighties! Unless they're made into fun little flash games. Those are nice.

I don't feel sorry for him. At all.

Kind of hard to feel sympathy for someone when they do something so utterly stupid.

Glad the driver isn't getting charged though.

I'd love to see other 80s game related injuries.

"Man suffers skull fraxcture trying to break bricks by jumping at them head first."

Yes, I know Mario has his hand up, but screw it.

"Construction worker maimed in rogue Z block incident."

I'm telling you, cranes aren't supposed to rotate that way.

"Man releases gorilla in barrel factory, girlfriend mauled."

Okay, that one's needlessly cruel.

On a related note, I've played in traffic before. Nothing to do with Frogger, though. Personally, I blame Saints Row 2. I tried jumping on the hood of a car and pressing "Y," but all I got was a limp, a cane, and a medical bill.
