That was unusually vacuous. So many writers struggle with this format, I suppose because they're essentially trying to tell jokes and convey narrative in dot points. Stick to flowing prose, perhaps.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the I HAVE FURY line somewhere in there...>.>

Considering I played this RIGHT after I played Super Mario RPG, this game was a bit of a let down as far as Mario RPGs go...it was just too easy >.>. But yes, Luigi scores points for Work Jeans...makes him, ya know, sound cooler XD

...though wait...you were born in Britain...OH! I remember now, Pants in England means underwear! No wonder XD!

Hey, 22 hours is like half the time you'll be spending on one boss battle.

I absolutely loved Superstar Saga. Although I cannot stand playing for HOURS for most games. It's just that the games sometimes insane difficulty will test your patience to the core. But I suppose its the best thing to do on an airplane

Next time, just have your vodka with some good ol Kool-Aid my good man and time will seem to fly by. You'll soon forget you are on a plane, or that there are probably laws for removing your pants with little children around, but what the hell, they'll find out about that stuff sooner or later.

Having been on an 8 hour plane ride, I can attest that Hotel Dusk will not only keep your interest, but you will also stop all bowel movement and need for sustenance just to play the game more. Its that interesting, and not in that "The killer is in this room" CSI New York bullshit way.

Being on planes quite a lot, too, I can understand the "only one game" problem for a single flight.

I usually prefer to take the rockband/beers path with my psp until the first cramps start to take over. Afterwards the pain in the hands/arms is more enough to distract from the pain that the seats cause (if it's not business class) and allow some nap. Well, at least for the 5+ hours flights. Everything below that is usually well covered by mini's (which are a shining light of human technological advance for that specific occasion imho).

By the way, some airports force you to fill out the visa before boarding the plane (Dublin Airport, I'm looking at you!). That makes you really look like a noob if you expect the "last hour before landing" aproach.

Maybe we'll meet upon the clouds sometime and I might finally have a chance to use ad-hoc party to jam flight electronics (if you care to bring a psp).

And what I mean by "not shovelware" is what you're talking about. It's clear that a lot of work went into adding all the things they added (and I mean that even without the mini-games, which I'll ignore for the sake of argument) and all the stuff they did to improve the original. Stuff like having better versions of all the character models.
On what planet is Bowser with an oversized noggin a "better character model"? It just makes him look like he has an near-explosive case of hayfever.
It's not all that clear, but the right picture is the N64 version, the left is the DS one.

Back on topic...on long rides (for me they're usually train rides, not airplane rides) I bring along my DS, right now with Etrian Odyssey 2 in it. The looong dungeon crawls tend to hold my attention for some reason, and when I get bored/cramped I switch it up with a book or something else I've brought.

Ah. Right. Well I feel sheepish... My apologies. Yes, I must agree that the character models in the DS version are much better.

Now I must go and, umm, clean my, my... my toaster. Yes that's right. My toaster.
*shuffles out of the conversation.

I saw you mention Super Mario 64 DS in the interview, you should really play the N64 version. The controls aren't as arse as the DS version, and it looks a tad better, in my opinion. I never 'got' the whole Mario RPG thing, but then again, I don't like RPGs in general.
How does the Mario64 DS compare to N64 version? Ive never played the DS version?

Also: I bet the kids on the plane were in on it
First of all: You start of as Yoshi and you unlock Mario, Luigi and Wario one by one
Secondly: They added a lot of bunnies - which sadly are less fun to hunt for than the ones in the original.
Thirdly: There are seven stars (+100 coins) per world
4: They made some new power-ups
5: They changed some of the stars
6: They added some extra stars
But most importantly: They totally messed up the control mechanics, thus making the game a frustration to play. You need to hold down a dash button to run at what was normal speed in the N64 version, which makes it harder to use the jump button and attack button. Also, when you dash (a.k.a run at normal speed) you can't turn as fast. Though some of the new stuff is good, the controls ruin the whole expirience. The graphics are somewhat improved, but some places they seem wrong. Bowser don't look scary as you are fighting him in the final boss fight.

step 1: download Snes Emulator
step 2: download Super Mario RPG
step 3: play it
step 4: get $40
Step 5: Buy Diablo battle chest
Step 6: play diablo 2
Step 7: suck Blizzard's cock
How is that, particularly the last step, in any way going to make me like RPGs? I just find them boring. Sure, there are exceptions (first gen Pokemon) but generally I find them boring as hell.

Heh, absolutely. Perhaps it's time for Yahtzee to venture into the realms of fiction- Mario and Luigi on a drug-fueled search for the American dream in Vegas? "We were somewhere around Bowzer's Castle on the edge of the desert when the mushrooms began to take hold..."

Brilliant stuff. It's good to see the Mario & Luigi games getting their due. I only have Superstar Saga, but it's probably one of my favourite games.

...while there are outlets in the first class sections, every airline I've ever flown makes a specific announcement (or depiction) that portable viewing screens are prohibited. You can have them, but you won't be able to do anything with it (and yeah, I've tried).
LOL, that's crazy. I wonder if it has something to do with licensing, as in the media companies own the rights to displaying video on board the plane. It sounds ridiculous, but licenses often are.

(warning, tangent) Almost every school, office building, and restaurant in this city sells Coke exclusively. Not because Coke is more popular, but because Coke has these crazy exclusive licenses where they will *give* you the vending machines, as long as you only sell Coke products. Unfortunately for me, I'm a Pepsi drinker.

Very funny, although I was expecting a bit more about the actual game. But as I said, it's funny, so that's OK. Loved the bit about the Sumerian demon-summoning ritual. :p

Ahhh, plane travels. If you're not drunk and/or hallucinating after 10 hours sitting on a tight seat between two fat and smelly people, you're doing it wrong.

the last step will happen if you follow the others

they are the 2 best RPGs ever
