Marvel vs Capcom 3 Tiers! (Personal)

Okay, now, I am simply LOVING MvC3, despite being skeptical of the thing even after I paid the 60 bucks for it. It's chaotic, it's fun, and it's just soooooo gooooooooood.

Playing online though, I noticed a lot of trends, such as the already-infamous Sentinel spam. Trends that show the game obviously has some balance issues, but hey, we know another name for that don't we? TIERS!

For those of you who don't know (why don't you?), tiers are basically grades for the roster of characters within the game. An example would be Marth from Super Smash Bros. Melee. Marth was on the top of the top tier. He was the god tier. He was A++ tier.

So, my fellow Escapists, knowing the game is still young, I am not requesting official tiers shown by competitions, data, etc. I want YOUR personal opinions. Who IS on your top? Who is on YOUR bottom? Who do you just enjoy playing the most?

Um...isn't having personal interpretations of tiers kind of defeating the purpose of tiers? Tiers are a gaming community's amalgamation of collective experience, playing theory, and tournament results. I wouldn't think there are any "personal" tiers, only tier predictions.

Still, I'll make some assumptions and answer what I think you're asking.

Best: Dante. Because I love Devil May Cry 3 and have an irresistible compulsion to call out my attacks.
Worst: I haven't tried everyone yet, so I can't say for myself. Of all the characters I absolutely hate fighting, though, Wesker tops the list. Even spammers like Sentinel, Amaterasu, and Arthur can be dealt with a few ways (like M.O.D.O.K.'s shields and Spencer's arm), but I have a hard time fighting him.
Favorite: Deadpool or X-23, not sure which. Leaning towards the latter for massive hotness.

I can destroy him with Wesker. Since everyone seems content to button mash, and Wesker has that counter move of death. Its glorious.

OT: For me? Well the best would be one of the people I use. Either X-23 due to her insane speed or Wesker due to his anti-Dante counter of death.

Worst? Well Super Skrull is a ***** to use. Considering he loves to do tenderizer even when I don't want him to do that.

I consider the best Dante. All of his options are incredibly helpful.

Worst is Hsien-Ko. She's too goddamn slow and doesn't have the hp to make up for it. Plus her hypers are easily avoidabe.

Fav: Dante. But I picked him before I knew he was the best.

If you get a button masher, yeah, ya could own Dante. But someone who know's how to play and use abilities he's broken. Has a bunch of stuff that can be spammed at range, keep you stunned, or warp right over top of you no matter where you are and slam a sword on your head, then with his high str, speed and hp he can be a real *****. Wesker is damn good in the right hands though, esp for those ppl who just try to run in and zerg you with none stop melee.

Wesker is my favorite, I love just zooming around the screen.
pretty much everyone else, except wolverine and Dante, are my worst.

Felicia owns, don't base tiers on a personal level, it means nothing if you do. First inspect everything that is common knowledge, then wait half a year till we know more stuff and do the same, then make an early assessment.


Online is never a showcase of tiers since tiers only come in meaning at the highest possible skill levels of play. J-wong owned sentinel with his wolverine and Akuma in a recent tourney, it is just not the same as online where C-mashing Sents can actually expect to win.

Never fought someone who was "good" with Dante too be honest. It'll be interesting when I do, since I've been training against him on hard mode.

Worst: Doctor Doom - Annoying to play with and he constantly spams with that aerial kick.
Favorite: Toss up between Wesker, Dante and Chris, can't decide

Worst: Spencer- I not pro at this but I can at least handle normal difficulty, but whenever I'm Spencer I'm always horrid with him. Stupid vertical claw I keep accidentally using.

Favorite: Dr. Doom and X23- Doom has the most badass lv 3 hyper and overall he just looks badass. And X23 because she is dame fine looking. (hell all the female characters look nice)

I'm concered with talk of tiers however since i don't like the notion that opinions regarding balance are the sole purview of a few, elite, players. That's absolutely the worst thing about these games.

It's not that these players are somehow better people than everyone else thus get to decide out of their ass and we have to live with it cause we suck.


It's simply that these are the people who actually use the characters to their utmost best potential thus they know how good they actually are. If you can't play that well then tiers don't matter since you're most likely unable to do all those things which make a character top tier....and if you can play like that...well...you're one of those elite players and your opinion does matter since you have all the information available to you and can be objective.


Who do you think decided Cable Storm and Magneto rocked? Every kid voted online? Nope. A few epic people played their hearts out, discovered amazing techniques and elevated these characters to their current status in MvC2. If you do something like that you deserve having your opinion matter.

It's not really opinion in the end, if you just tally everything good and bad you can come to an objective conclusion but to do that tallying you need to actually be familiar with the esoteric mechanism of all of those top tier styles and only very skilled players can do that. It is the nature of competition, it is why there's gold and silver medals and why there's only ONE of each. Not everyone is equal at everything when competitive games are discussed.

Yep, it's funny that Ammy does so much and so well too. She's a better jack of all trades than Dante...she's a goddess of all trades .

Yep, it's funny that Ammy does so much and so well too. She's a better jack of all trades than Dante...she's a goddess of all trades .

Indeed, and very few of her moves leave her wide open afterwards, unlike Dante who is really easy to punish. Ammy's size also lets her avoid quite a few projectiles.
