Mass Effect 2 Patch on PS3 Reveals New DLC

The new patch for the PlayStation 3 version of Mass Effect 2 [http://www.amazon.com/Mass-Effect-2-Playstation-3/dp/B002I0J5YW/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1298326624&sr=8-5] has revealed what appears to be an unannounced DLC expansion entitled Arrival.

What is Arrival? That's the question asked by BioWare forum user Vamplosion, who noticed earlier today that the new PS3 patch for Mass Effect 2 added three new trophies for a DLC pack called Arrival. Remembering that there is in fact no Mass Effect 2 DLC called Arrival, he took the matter to the forum [http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/103/index/6128586/1], where things caught fire in a hurry.

One of the trophies, as seen in a screen shot captured by Vamplosion, describes the rescue of Dr. Amanda Kenson, whose name had previously turned up in a recent Cerberus news feed that may provide some insight as to what Arrival has in store.

"Historians and astronomers alike are abuzz tonight over a new paper published by Dr. Amanda Kenson of the University of Arcturus. Her team claims that by testing the dust trapped in the gravity wells around a mass relay, and comparing its composition to that of dust clouds in the same system, scientists can create a timeline of when the relay passed through the dust. Her conclusion? 'Only a small fraction of the mass effect relays date back 50,000 years,' she writes, 'The majority are far older, indicating they were created by a species predating even the Protheans.' Dr. Aurana T'Meles of the University of Serrice met the information with skepticism: 'While Dr. Kenson's methods appear sound, the Asari tried a similar procedure centuries ago and discounted it. What civilization could have spanned the galaxy for not thousands, but millions of years? If this were the case, we should have found mountains of evidence of their passing. Where is this species now?'"

The trophy descriptions don't offer up anything in the way of useful information and BioWare isn't saying much, but it did confirm that Arrival, whatever it may be, is legit. "When we added the trophies to the patch we just assumed that they would be invisible," BioWare's Jesse Houston wrote on the forums [http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/103/index/6128586/33#6133330]. "Lesson learned."

"More info as soon as I get a green light from PR and Marketing I promise!" he added [http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/103/index/6128586/31#6133128].

Could this be the final DLC that links Mass Effect 2 to Mass Effect 3 [http://www.amazon.com/Mass-Effect-3-Playstation/dp/B004FYJFNA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1298326624&sr=8-2] and heralds the "Arrival" of the Reapers? Nobody knows - but you better believe we're paying attention.

I thought it was already kind of announced after the Cerberus network people said they would resume updates a week before the final ME2 expansion dropped, then stop, and then resume for 2 weeks before ME3 is released?

Ah well. Hopefully this DLC will allow me to kill TIM. That would make me a happy panda.

Oh cool. I was wondering when the next DLC would be announced. I thought it was odd that there has no mention of a new one since "Lair of the Shadow Broker" came out months and months ago.

Arrival of the reapers I bet! WOO!
It would be cool, no doubt, but it's not the type of thing that should be done in DLC. The Reapers finally making it to citadel space is a massive deal. Make no mistake, I will play this content no matter what, but something so big shouldn't be released as extra content that may go unnoticed by people who don't buy DLc.

the final DLC has already been announced and that it would tie ME2 and ME3 together and that it would come 2-3 months before ME3. this just confirmed the name of the DLC.

How about one where an isolated scouting outpost on the outer ring of the galaxy goes dark, and you go to investigate and find the Reapers are just arriving at the very edges of the Milky Way? That seems like it would fit the bill without raining on ME3's parade

The Council races refuse to acknowledge the tastiness of the Presidium lake fish...It's up to Commander Shepard to convince them otherwise.

Ah yes, "fish" tasty aquatic organisms common on most garden worlds. We have dismissed that claim

Wouldnt be surprised to see this linking to the next game at all.

Also its nice to see that Bioware still cares about ME2 even with Dragon Age 2 nearing launch and ME3 very much in the works.
