You lose your Spectre status after you 'die' at the beginning of Mass Effect 2. You may or may not be reinstated, depending on if you saved the Citadel and if you spoke to Anderson. Even then, he reminds you that it's just a formality. You don't even get any benefits.
So... they make you a Spectre, but don't make you a Spectre?

What?
I don't understand it either. I suppose the Council started to disregard you after your 'death' and your rumored cooperation with Cerberus. Possibly also becoming a thorn in their side incessantly speaking of 'reapers'. They cannot afford to let someone that unstable run around with Spectre benefits. Still, they cannot shun the hero that saved the Citadel unquestionably. I know that if you're granted the Spectre status, it changes the dialogue during one quest. The one where you exposed the volus who accused a Quarian of stealing his valuables. Nothing else other than that though.
But you could use it in Thane's loyalty mission, when your interrogating that guy. He threatens to sue, you go "I'm a Spectre, *****.", and he gets all sad. Or something like that.

In the Shadow Broker DLC it also plays a small role.
I'm not sure. I think the option to intimidate the suspect with your status is open even if you aren't reinstated. This is most likely wrong, so I'll verify when I make my final playthrough on ME2.

Let me stick Ashley and Miranda on the same ship to watch the cattiness ensue please. I'd love to see Ashley going: "I can live with the fact Shepard chose you over me... please die."

Also, as a Paragon my Shepard's trial could be quite a long process due to the sheer number of character witnesses.

Well considering the council never believed anything you said until their asses were right on the line, is it any surprise that the Alliance would behave in the exact same stupid way?

I can't wait, I still want Thane in my party purely to see him kick Kaiden's ass for being such a whiny jerk.

K: You've been gone for 2 years, you never called or anything!
Shep: yup, being dead has that little problem.
K:wee ooo weee ooo!

I'd like to see just the galactic armada I've collected all together. I would have to do a little dance.

Wait, I got a little confused. Are you pissed off at my reasoning or at Bioware?

If it's Bioware, like the OP said, all this info should be taken with a grain of salt.
It was Bioware, I didn't read the whole part about it not necessarily being accurate. I was too busy trying to avoid major spoilers.

....dammit. Now I'm excited and hyped up as all hell. A middle ground between the first two with Garrus and Wrex? I must be dreaming.

What?
It was meant to be a public thing, if my memory is correct. Reinstate the savior of the galaxy as Spectre, and people will ease off your case a bit more for having *some* common sense (because they know that you suck). It was meant as a sign of good will (and nothing more) in the form of making you a Spectre again. Just a simple masquerade, but a nice gesture, nonetheless (from their point of view, anyway).

It's all politics, I tell ya.
I think he was straight up made a Spectre again but never really had the opportunity to 'use' it because he was operating outside Citadel space in ME2 (something about being in the Terminus systems, if I remember correctly). And while they gave him the Spectre status again due to his past actions, it was also kind of hush-hush because of his alignment with the pro-human Cerberus.

If you played the "Arrival" DLC you can kind of make an educated guess why Sheperd is on trial. I really hope Wrex is a extra character for those that kept him alive, I would rather they bring both teams from Mass Effect 1 and 2 together. Really interested in this new character though.

I swear if the Council wont help me and are like " Oh yes Reapers the Immortal Starships that are attack Earth." Heads will roll -.-

I'd be more excited about Ashley's return (of the long-haired variant) if she was set at least bi.

Still, I'll be happy with developing with Liara.
Admittedly, she's always been kind of dull. Always wished Ashley swung both ways.

oh her and Kaiden did at one point, but when FOX news got wind of the romance scenes, Bioware cut it from the games to risk more controversy and the most likely reason for ME2 not having it was because Bioware didn't want to risk Mass Effect becoming known as a series of sex simulators(and hence the seriously toned down romance scenes), though they did add universal sex for the Dragon Age games, but that was because FOX had had to issue a public apology to Bioware and it was in the clear.

With Dragon Age 2 being the massive fail that it is, and seeing how Mass Effect 2 wasn't even really that good, I'm worried about this game.

Also, My biggest question with this game is: WILL IT BE ANOTHER COVER-BASED SHOOTER?

Because if it is, I'll DEFINITELY be passing.

Sorry if I think playing wack-a-mole in a FPS is lame.

Am I the only one that wants an awkward smelly Batarian love interest in ME3?

Batarian LI: Filthy human, you destroyed 300,00 of my people, but I can't...hold back my feelings and longer.

femshep: *vomits*

Batarian: does vomiting in the disgusting human culture also represent the start of love-courting like it does in the superior Batarian culture? :D

Not sure what I think about the greater rpgs elements being brought back...I found them tiresome...but maybe they'll balance them out. I did miss dressing Wrex in that stupid pink armor...

No Thane?
Keplar's Syndrome.
They brought Shep back from the dead. I think they can freakin' cure a disease.
Depend on if they've got billions of dollars to spend on a secondary character.
I'm guessing that the only way Thane Gets cured is if he's your Love Interest and/or Mordin/Dr. Chakwas survive ME2. (Bioware stated that 2 spots can be reseved in Mass Effect 3 for a surviving Love Interests(In my case, Liara and Tali))
