Hey hey hey wait wait wait. The first game so did NOT delve too deep into the RPG zone, it was hampered by the worst UI in the existence of mankind. It made the most rudimentary of inventory management tasks an exercise in memory tests and excess scrolling. Beyond the most annoying and repetitive interface ever, it had a lot of promise.

My favorite additions are choices in which weapons you pick, and modifications.

I'm actually excited for this game, which has never occurred before this point.

RPG middle ground sounds pretty goddamn good right now.

Stay the course Bioware, and don't you dare lie to me.

My Shepard says the following to the starting scenario:
"I am a Spectre. I will answer to no earthly tribunal.
I am free to act as I please and I will answer to none."

They certainly go down the Dragon Age 2 route as in your choices and the world we created can be changed as the devs and writers deem it fitting

I'm hoping that we get to see more of the political character which made the first game's universe such a gem to me. ME2 gave us plenty of culture, but it shoehorned the politics that made everything about Shepard work, in my opinion.

But my best assessment on the series would be to divide it into three motions: Mass Effect was about the threat and introduction, and Mass Effect 2 (should have been) about the arrival. Thus, the third can be about the total war between the organic species and the Reapers. Everything's been cleared up, Bioware - you don't need to dally time to build any more tension. Just start with the war.

If they don't bring back Miranda, Jacob, Tali, Thane and Jack then that's a bit of a kick in the teeth for all of those who romanced them; especially considering the game basically tries poking you in the back to romance Miranda as a Male Shep.

Let's hope for some real decisions this time around. No retcon's please.

Interesting. The only point I'd make is that while it's good to see Bioware trying to adapt and learn from mistakes (points there), I think they are making at least one crucial mistake which could hurt them.

At it's core, a big part of the problem with Mass Effect 2 *WAS* the combat, simply put the core audience of RPG players didn't mind real-time combat, but when it got turned into a twitch/cover base third person shooter, as opposed to using stats.

A deeper game system is good, but I think in the end part of the issue is whether the quintessntial "lobster accountant" is going to be able to beat the game with minimal skill
at aiming.

Likewise, while the weapon slots idea is interesting, it does have me wondering if that's a good idea, since it seems kind of shooter-centric, for people who don't get why weapons access is part of the balancing process.

... and of course the most important issue, that of sweet, sweet, lewt. Will we have a decent range of equipment? Can we have our companions wear the armor we want them do? Or will we have to pay money if we wantto change their apperance again (horse armor rides again! this time without any statistical benefits).

These are my thoughts at any rate, we'll see what happens.

So basically, your choices in ME2 will barely affect the actual outcome of the game. This is similar to the "blood mage" quest in Dragon Age 2 whereas you have the choice of either saving or turning in a blood mage. No matter the choice, the blood mage comes back and attempts to kill you.

If Bioware can pull this off, good. Unfortunately, after the disaster that was ME2 both plot and gameplay wise I'm skeptical.

About the Cerberus hunting you:

I don't buy the
'You blew up the base, now we'll kill you', or 'We studied Reaper tech, now we're indoctrinated'
explanations. I mean, yeah, it sounds like it could be it, but it's way too obvious, and in general when someone is hunting you 'without a given reason' it's usually a setup for a big reveal. So I think that TIM has some kind of different motive to kill Shepard. Let's just hope it will be interesting and well thought, and not some kind of 'it turns out, that... YOU are a Reaper, Shepard' bullshit.

On the game itself:

While I enjoyed both Mass Effect games, I really hope Bioware will seriously work on the 'choices', so they won't be meaningless this time. They have potential (Rakhni, reformed Geth heretics, Destiny's Ascension) to make some of those old choices meaningful. If they'll blew it again, I predict a massive flamestorm at Bioware, and I might even join them (the flaming fanboys obviously) in this case.

I saw
"Shepard on trial"
and had to stop. I really don't want to know anything before I play it.

Oh fuck it.

Whoooooooo! Wrex and Liara are back! Well... possibly.

And now I'm going to have to determinedly stick my fingers in my ears and hum loudly for the rest of the year. Oh joy.
I'll be plugging my ears and shouting 'boo' right along with ya.

EDIT

It's nice we're getting some of the customization back we lost in the second game... if this is to be believed.

And I hope they work on the 'ammo' and health system. The thermal clips and Halo 2 health regen were really the only changes I can say honestly pissed me off.

Read below (it isn't a massive spoiler but just in case...)
The whole 'trial' thing is mentioned briefly in the "Arrival" DLC for ME2, in case you haven't played it :)

Everyone screaming about this character coming back and this character not coming back, remember this: this story also has to take into account that all but one of the main characters (Liara) could be dead.

Oh good they fixed everything that made Mass Effect 2 such an atrocity, although whether or not the stories improved to the quality of ME1 and I get the freedom of ME1, if not more is another story. At least I know the middle of the game is going to suck, mineral collection! (one way or another.)

All I know is that I hate this series to it's core... and I'll be buying ME3 on release!

To all those like me who are worried that our favorite Quarian won't be around in ME3, there's no cause for worry. BioWare has plumbed so much data from ME2 that it's almost mind-numbing. If they got data how many lines of cutscene conversation got skipped, you can be sure that they know which characters got romanced the most. And we all know who did! They know that if they pull the rug out from the legions of Talimancers, then they'll be in for a PR shitstorm. Personally, I would probably never forgive BioWare if she did not appear or got killed off.

I mean, every single team member who could possibly survive ME1 is listed except her. Of course she'll be included.

All I want to know is how long I have to play the game before Garrus beats Kaiden's pansy ass for my love!

I want Miranda, Mordin, and Wrex back. Miranda mostly because I gained respect for her after her kickass ending arc. Also, I didn't care a bit about Ashley ever, so she was my romance option.

Mordin and Wrex are just awesome for entirely different reasons.
