I hadn't played Mass Effect until I downloaded and played the Mass Effect 3 demo and I have to say it was pretty underwhelming. Maybe I'll give it another crack later on, but I still don't see what the big deal is. Then again, some people don't see what the big deal is with the games I absolutely love either.
That is your problem, you didn't start at the beginning. You can't jump into a snippet of the beginning and other parts of the third part of a trilogy and expect to get everything that people are loving about it.
The people that are totally psyched and gush about it are the people that were there from beginning, the people that started with the first game and played it all in order.
It's like if I hadn't ever watched a Star Wars movie and watched parts of the Ewok sections and saw a speeder-bike crash into a tree, and then I said, "I don't get what all the fuss is over".
If all you played is the demo for ME3, you are playing/seeing events that you have no proper context to understand them.
The Mass Effect series is something that has to be started from the beginning to get the full experience.
I never really understood why when people try to get into a popular story or series, they never start with the beginning.
I never buy or play a new game, if I know there are games that came before that are linked to it, until I have played those games before hand. It really can't be done with games that have stories, and that is really what Mass Effect is about, the story.
