Mass Effect 3 Trailer Confirms Earth is Screwed

This looks awesome. So excited.

I do have to ask though why you all assume Earth was the first planet attacked? So it's what they show in the trailer, but it's what makes the most sense in retrospect. Showing an Elcor or Asari homeworld just wouldn't have the same impact as Earth. Doesn't mean it was the first or only world being attacked, jeez jump to conclusions huh?

Honestly I just took the trailer as an emphasis on just how close to home the Reapers are in the ME3, how serious the impending doom is for everyone. Maybe you spend time on earth, maybe you won't see it at all, they still have a year before release so I really don't understand why you're all so gung-ho on this trailer representing exactly what will happen in the game. o_O

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if we found out that the Protheans from Ilos had visited Earth
Sha'ira's locket in ME1 hints at exactly that happening. Whether it was to inject protognostic humans with the "I Win" macguffin (Please raptor jesus no.) or simply a research team going 'lol funny looking pyjaks without tails.'

I didn't. I was hoping they wouldn't be that cliche. Apparently I need to lower my expectations once again.
Yeah... it was a bit TOO cliche for them to release ANOTHER Mass Effect... I don't know why they bothered with all of that Red Herring shit... Guess they decided they wanted to have some fun with their fan base at their expense.

A few million in the first week?

Doesn't anyone else find that weird? It's a planet extermination, and all they could do in a week is a few million out of several billion?
I don't know if anyone thinks of this the way I do, but I think that number is only what happened in Britain or maybe even the London area. Like the guy in the trailer said, we're getting reports from other major cities. meaning that the flow of information is very slow and can impossibly give an accurate number on the whole planet.

besides if an assault is global there'l be millions of casualties in a matter of hours before a descent evacuation effort can be coordinated. In the case of London by the European Union army. (this assuming Britain is a member of the union and not a solo player.)

and like the guy said, they're scattered and therefore they can impossibly know about anything outside of their direct enviroment. (at least from the lone sniper's point of view.)

And personally I find it funny that a bunch of military air and ground artillery units are taking pot shots at a giant reaper. Brave, but futile if you ask me. A strategy for covering their retreat seems likely.

And I'm calling it right now, that soldier will take over the Kaidan/Jacob role.
Or he could just be another grunt in the war. The party already has an easily confused for a British accent by untrained or ignorant ears character anyway.

But then I don't have any love for Jacob at all. He wasn't a bad character, I simply didn't care about him or his problem. Indeed, he was probably the least interesting party member in all of mass effect thus far.

That said, I'd be perfectly willing to take British sniper man in exchange for Jacob (or alongside Jacob I suppose).

Well, I mean it's fairly obviously what they were building toward. Mass Effect 2 made it pretty clear that the Reapers had singled out humanity as their greatest obstacle, so of course they'd try to hit earth. The only surprise, potentially, is the extent to which Bioware is allowing them to succeed.

I'm not sure how much of a surprise it's supposed to be. I mean, the fact that they've been allowed to blow away the defenses and directly assault the planet, resulting in millions of deaths is potentially a surprise, but the fact that they'd try to attack humanity (and thus earth, by extension) is heavily suggested in the previous games.

On the other hand, did you predict that the game was going to be a Dr. Who Christmas Special? It was the first thing I thought upon seeing a bunch of alien ships floating over London. The Doctor--I mean Shepard!--will save us!

HOLY FRAK. This game is going to be so awesome. I haven't been this excited of anything for a while. It's annoying that I have to wait a year but at least they have time make an awesome game.

Which doesn't make it any less cliche. We've crossed from "sloppy writing" into "not trying anymore" territory.

As for that fish [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105909-New-BioWare-Clue-Seems-Fishy], I think BioWare was just being a jerk.
Looks like that fish...
Was a red herring.

Humanity's home planet is awfully close to the rim of the galaxy, making it a prime first target to begin with, no matter what you have to say about anything else storywise. Plus we did kill one of them, so I'd think they'd be pretty pissed at that.

As we can clearly see in this [http://sparkleberrysprings.com/v-web/b2/?p=808] fine post... wait, no... we're in the accretion disk... Something even Mass Effect [http://www.platformnation.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/mass-effect-map.jpg] hasn't screwed up yet. We're a long way from the center, and a long way from the edge. Remember, space is big.

None of which addresses how goddamn cliche all of this is.

It was a human that chased sovereign down and it was a human who eventually defeated him. A human fleet destroyed a reaper at the citadel. And when everyone else was ready to dismiss the whole thing, one human refused to give up and chased the reaper's slaves (collectors) down and blew up their entire base, that was located were no one was supposed to find it. In the eyes of the reapers, humans are the major threat because they were the only ones to effectively stand against them. The others on board the Normandy are shining examples of what the other species can do but if it wasn't for that one human they wouldn't even be brought together. Shepard is the driving force, he motivates the others.

like I said above; human's need to be taken out so shepard can't unite the galaxy. doesn't matter were we are, to an organized military, the biggest threat must be dealt with first

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAH baby! I can't wait to ride the Normandy again. I predict an even longer endgame where you retake earth with the allies you've made from the whole galaxy. It's going to be EPIC.
