...Is it Holiday 2011 yet?!
If only! My overwhelming feeling upon finishing my first playthrough of ME2 (which I'd preordered and pretty much played through immediately) was that "I need ME3 *now*." Having to wait another year is going to be excruciating! I mean, it's not like I expected it to be sooner than this, but... Ah well. Guess I'll just have to keep myself entertained with DA2 and TW2!

I'm calling it right now, that soldier will take over the Kaidan/Jacob role.
But I want *Kaidan* to take over that role... :-(

Are people legitimately believing that it's going to be on Earth the whole game?

For fucks sake, people. Did you play Mass Effect 2? Hell, did you play Dragon Age?

You know most of what you're meant to do from the beginning. You're likely to spend most of the game building up a force to take on the Reapers.
Never underestimate people's ability to complete misinterpret what they're shown.
And they also seem utterly astounded by the Reapers fascination with humanity.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that one human is responsible for completely fucking over their plans twice.
Yeah, I know. I've had to explain the events of both previous ME games quite a number of times to get people to realize what's going on.
It's the "haters gonna hate" mentality. No matter how much you rationally explain Mass Effect to some people, if there is one slightly uncertain plot point, they will rail on it to death regardless of what you do.

On that note, again, I am so fucking excited for Mass Effect 3. Come on, November 2011. Come on!

Hopefully this means a mission where you either
1. Recruit an Irish guy
2. Rescue Irish survivors
3. A mission set in IRELAND.
Wait!! Why would we want to recruit anything Irish to fight the reapers?

They can't even afford the weapons, let alone the armour -Ah snap-
Plus, we are neutral :p
actually, setting it in Ireland would be pretty cool, and since it's next to the UK(maybe it'll act as a temporary safepoint) AND that Bioware has an Ireland branch in Galway it wouldn't be as random as other countries
OMFG, I LIVE IN GALWAY!!!!!!!! HOW EPIC WOULD THAT BE!
I live in Tyrone :( so I'd probably be one of the 1st places on the Island to get F****d over, then again, I have a holiday home in Donegal so if I go their and do a trek along the west coast I should end up in that reaper-proof county(preferably it'd have a massive blue bubble-shield around it, with matching lasers)
Yeah, that's - Wait, what? There's a Bioware Ireland? WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?!
Screw you, geographical location of Meath v.v

A few million in the first week?

Doesn't anyone else find that weird? It's a planet extermination, and all they could do in a week is a few million out of several billion?
Yes but it's not just an anihalation, they take some for husks and such, slowish process that

I found that odd as well. I mean yeah thats a huge number, but I'd expect it to be more. Especially seeing as how Sovereign just steamrolled through everything at the end of the first one, and still destroyed a large chunk of ships while simultaneously fighting you.

The more I hear about this series, the less faith I have in Bioware. I'm sure Dragon Age 2 will also add to this.
It seems with both, they went with the first game being "you can't do this alone, get lots of allies, plan your strategies, mind your choices and their consequences. With your allies at your side, you may have a chance to win."
Plus they're pretty deep RPG's.

With the second set of games, its more like "Can you KICK the most ASS to succeed?! Your a BADASS! So BADASS your way through the game and KICK the bad guy's ASS! HARDCORE!!"

Granted I'm not sure if DA2 will go that route, but according to the current news, that seems to be the way they're going.

I sense a pattern forming...
Why would they want to exterminate humanity anyway? The justification for the abduction of humans in the second game was that humanity was the only species that the reapers were able to... uhhhhh... reproduce with.

I too sense a pattern forming. As much as I LOVE the Mass Effect games I didn't like how the second game seemed to take the odd turn that humanity was somehow more genetically diverse (and by implication genetically superior) than the other species. It kind of feels like they're playing into some sort of speciest narcissism.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if we found out that the Protheans from Ilos had visited Earth, modified human DNA and then planted on planets throughout the galaxy in order to create the genetic, intellectual, economic and military diversity of galactic civilization necessary to defeat the Reapers. Which would also be kind of specieist since that would mean that humans are the original, yo, and you other aliens are just copies.

OT: Mass Effect 3!!! Awesome! Can't wait!
yeah, just once I'd like to see a game where some OTHER species was the more genetically superior and advanced while yours looks on from the sidelines, and for you to beat the game was to rise up and become their galactic equals. I'm pretty safe on betting that Bioware were trying to do this early in development for the Hanar considering they evolved on a prothean colony, though was quickly scrapped when they realised it would be either a huge morale blow or just unbelievable that a species that we have never seen fire a weapon and which are essentially polite, floating pink jellyfish would have a better time surviving a reaper invasion than, say, the humans or Turians.
Intersting fact, if you play ME 2 with various allies, whenever harbringer shows up and shoots at somebody else who is of a different species, who starts saying why they did not use them, some (like krogans) he considered superior but too few in number, too armed, have a biological trait that make them unappealing or all of the above.

OMG OMG OMG...

This will be so awesome. Okay, this is perhaps a little premature, but still...

As long as biotics aren't totally useless this time.

Sorry if this is a repost but has anyone else noticed that last view in the teaser is wrong?

The London Eye is on the other side of the Thames, you shouldn't be able to see it.

I think that the people who are selling the Reapers short didn't pay close enough attention to what was actually being said.

"2 million dead after the first day. Another 7 million at the end of the first week. Reports are coming in from other major cities."

I think that means that the narrator has no idea how many people are being culled acros the planet. If his casualty numbers are for Britain (or even London) alone, then I think the robotic demigods are really pulling out all the stops on Earth.

The funny thing about this trailer is that someone with no prior knowledge of the Mass Effect series would watch this and think that it's another grey futuristic shooter about Earth being taken over by aliens. I'm willing to bet that very little of the game will actually be set there, as the implications toward the end of the trailer are that Shepard will be off doing his own thing, possibly rallying an attack force Dragon Age-style or battling Reapers in other parts of the galaxy as well, since I highly doubt the Reapers are only attacking Earth.

But anyway, yeah, I don't think anyone on the face of the planet has ever been more excited for anything than I am for this game.
As a long time fan: I think you have some competition.

=]
I second that.

Well the Reapers are going to attack earth first because humans are the only species that screwed up their plans so far, and they aren't to pleased with that.

So its gonna be like Resistance 1 but in the future? (cuz of the London setting)
It might pull a mass effect 1 and that cutscene has almost nothing to do with what's going on in the game. I do agree that's a poor choice of promotional trailer. It's mass effect, which has tons of wiggy lookin aliens and architechture, and your promo for the game is bombed out london. I'm not dissuaded but the uninitiated might pass this game off as, yet another grey shooter. Personally i hope it was a fairly unrelated trailer, I might have trouble swallowing how there's 7 Reapers floating over the earth at the opening of the game. The hell was the point of anything I did in 1 and 2?
