The funny thing about this trailer is that someone with no prior knowledge of the Mass Effect series would watch this and think that it's another grey futuristic shooter about Earth being taken over by aliens. I'm willing to bet that very little of the game will actually be set there, as the implications toward the end of the trailer are that Shepard will be off doing his own thing, possibly rallying an attack force Dragon Age-style or battling Reapers in other parts of the galaxy as well, since I highly doubt the Reapers are only attacking Earth.

But anyway, yeah, I don't think anyone on the face of the planet has ever been more excited for anything than I am for this game.
Well the Reapers are going to attack earth first because humans are the only species that screwed up their plans so far, and they aren't to pleased with that.
but quarians, krogan, asari, turians, and even drell have fucked their plans too. why single out humans when the normandy is a damn multicultural ad?
It's shepard in particular that has grabbed thier attention. That's what got them interested in humanity in 2. I'd venture a guess that it's somehow the illusive mans fault as well... come on look at that guy, you can't trust him.

I am kinda upset they told us the Reapers invade Earth.

They better have a good plot twist or something.

Its like in ME2 with Jack they should have not showed us she was a girl they should have kept that a secret so we could have all been like the Normandy Crew the first time we saw her.

I want Earth destroyed in the opening sequence, and then the rest of the game involves the survivors preparing the rest of the galaxy.

Mass Effect 3: Titan A.E.!

XD

OT: Of course Earth'll be fucked. Home planet to the person that destroyed like 2 Reapers and
one Baby Reaper.

Well attacking earth is not that strange. After only 3 decades after discovering the mass relays the humans are considered to get into the counsel. What appears to be the shortest amount of time ever in that history.
Also humanity has been mostly targeted from game 1. Saren and the geth most target human colonies in the first game. The collectors strike human colonies to harvest them.

We are a race that the reapers seem to fear the most. Not to forget Shepard has been a pain to the reapers.

Also about the trailer. Trailers for mass effect 2 were just as confusing, let's just wait and have faith in bioware giving us a great conclusion on a great trilogy.

ME2 perfectly ended. It shouldn't continue because it's going to ruin the story... Well for me.
Well. That ending was made so it would be quite clear that the story isnt over yet.

Well, we could have already guessed that earth was screwed, amiright? Any game that displays a lot of space combat with the main characters being humans tends to either start, end, or have a crucial plot turn with earth getting attacked.

Of note, we don't see any of the rest of the galaxy.. There are 3 reapers in the cutscene, and implied millions in existence. It isn't necessarily just an attack on Earth, it could well be part of a much wider assault on the mass effect galaxy, possibly with Earth as the main target as it's implied none of the other species are genetically suitable for what the Reapers want, plus they're probably a little bummed about Sovereign.

In particular, no mention of the Citadel fleet who would presumably be burning in orbit if they weren't perhaps tied up elsewhere. Either that or the Reapers can still control the mass relays manually without using the Citadel.

And as mentioned, they don't want to annihilate earth or its population, merely to cow the inhabitants into submission so the rest can be indoctrinated. I'd presume the plan is still the same as it was in mass effect 2.

Few things to clear up. Few million dead in a week.

Its never stated how strong in numbers the reapers are. They may be spread thinly over the galaxy and not just attacking earth. Also, they may find it harder to wipe out civilizations than in previous cycles due to the point below.

Secondly, the reapers' tactics have altered, as in previous cycles they used the Citadel to cut communications and travel between planets and systems. (The ending of Mass Effect implies they can no longer do this due to sheppards actions.

I played a mostly Paragon role during ME2 and would love to see how my actions affect ME3. Thats one of the things I love about BioWare games, your actions have meaning and consequences. Since this will probably be the last Mass Effect game, I'm going to savor it and make sure I take my time with it. Of course I'll have Dragon Age 2 to bide my time with, so thats not going to be to bad.

This trailer is epic. I'm so excited for the third one now. I think it will be interesting to see how it works taking place on Earth (I'm sure not mostly, but either way... will be interesting). I wonder what the reapers want on Earth. Maybe they aren't invading the way we think they are. Bioware might spin some twists in yet. I await Holiday 2011 eagerly. :)

I'm really curious about the guy in the video. I wonder if he'll be important to the story. I kind of hope so. New characters are always fun. Plus, his voice is nice... sounds really familiar too. It's bugging me actually. Can anyone help with placing it? :p

On a side note, I reeeeeaaalllly can't wait to see what the council has to say about this after all that Reapers are a myth talk. Anyone with me there?
"Ahhhh yes... 'Reapers'. We have dismissed this claim."

He'll still be in denial... Hahaha. :)
turian council member:"well you see...those are just errrm...very big..hannar?"
shepard:"since when do hannar shoot LAZORS and smash stuff"?
turian council member:"DUDE you have never seen enkindle this?...just..wow"

The Reapers WALK AROUND? Oh sh*t yo! I just wonder what the Alliance Fleet did, especially after Shepard's multiple warnings, arse-load of proof (in the form of the Collector "homeworld"), and mound of credibility.

Day 1: "Hey, what are those huge things?"
Day 2: THERE IS NO DAY 2.

But yeah, I hope we finally get to do space combat in our new ass-kicking Beam Cannon Normandy. Maybe we can lend those guns to the defense of Earth?

Thanks Bioware for spoiling yet again what will happened in the later stages of the main mission.
No build up or anything just POW! REAPERS INVADING, GATHER PEOPLE TO PUNCH THEM IN THE FACE,
THEN FIND THE DEUS EX MACHINEMA AND WHIPE THEM OUT ( unless they go for the rumored dark energy plot line.).

Can't they just tell the what the early plot looks like instead?
Bah.Next they will start with the ridiculously spoiler fantastic trailers like they did for ME2.

About the plot itself.
Aliens invading Earth? How original.

Anyway I want to see when the council dismisses Earth telling them they are under attack from Reapers.
Gee. Yeah. It isn't as if they haven't spent an entire series building up to the Return of the Reapers and the devastation of Earth. This is totally out of nowhere! Those bastards!

Its only my opinion, but compared to some great sci fi novelists like stanislaw lem, frank hebert, the story in mass effect its not THAT good, but compared to most games its amazing. I really like the game for its art direction and overall quality, even when the gameplay sometimes bores me.

Turian Council Member: Shepard, get your ass back to the Local Cluster! Earth's being attacked!
Shepard: That so? Who by, I wonder?
Turian Council Member: ...
Shepard: Come on...
Asari Council Member: Shepard, is this really the time for...
Shepard: Two games I've been waiting for this moment! I will have it!
Turian Council Member: ...Reapers. It's the Reapers...Are you happy now?
Shepard: Reapers? Ah! The supposed race of immortal, sentient starships waiting out in dark space! Nah, I've dismissed that claim. Turns out you were right all along, Councilers!
Salarian Council Member: We have no time for games, Shepard, your species' homeword is being dismantled as we...
Shepard: Nope, clearly some sort magical space swamp gas reflection, or delusions of your manipulated mind...
Turian: Shepard, would you...
Shepard: Oh, I know how we can settle this! Perhaps I can exert a tiny fragment of my unbelievable status to perhaps check up on this! I mean, it would be horrifically irresponsible of me to ignore a potential risk, brought forth to me by someone who has been entrusted with a great deal of importance, just because I'd rather keep my head stuck so deep in the sand I feel heat coming from the freaking outer core! Yes, I think I'll do just that.
Turian: Shepard, this is...
Shepard: It is with a great deal of pride that I say the following statement. Joker, loose this chanel...

I'm actually surprised they didn't fire down from orbit. Then I remembered that most ships have a huge pain in the ass getting lower than orbit on a planet, while at least one Reaper has demonstrated this very trick. Hard to attack them without blowing up London and all that as well.

I'll be saving that line for later :)

Be tricky to fire them and now blow up everything around them, given that other ships can't get nearly as close to the ground as Reapers.

I think that the people who are selling the Reapers short didn't pay close enough attention to what was actually being said.

"2 million dead after the first day. Another 7 million at the end of the first week. Reports are coming in from other major cities."

I think that means that the narrator has no idea how many people are being culled acros the planet. If his casualty numbers are for Britain (or even London) alone, then I think the robotic demigods are really pulling out all the stops on Earth.
Yeah I think that the guy meant the reported casualties in London alone, and reports of more everywhere else.
