Ahem:

LOL FTW ROFL THIS IS OF TEH AW3SOM3 ME3 WILL BE TOTALLY RADICAL NAOW THEY HAVE BROUGHT BACK FUN AND LAUGHTER

Oh...dear, well this destroys my faith in the game industry. Screw you Bioware, no I won't play your light fluffy funtimes game, goodbye.

I can just tell from working in the game industry that this is going to fail because the second game was just going from bad to worse so this attempt to bring back to the "humour" (see how I used air quotes) is just going to destroy the experience.

NOOOOOOO!!!!11!1!!1 BIOWARE WHAT HAVE YOU DONE THIS IS OF TEH AWFUL!!!!!!!111!!!1! U SCUK!!!!1!!!

Mass Effect was never good so I don't care. In fact, I don't even know why i'm posting here. Your all losers.

Right then, now that I've laid out all of the fanboy and hater arguments in sequence I shall move on to my actual opinion. I don't really care what they do as long as the game is just as fun as the first and second. I trust Bioware, they haven't let me down yet, so I'm looking forward to Mass Effect 3, almost no matter what they do with it.

(Typical arguments written without having read any of the comments already in this thread, now to see if I called it.)

EDIT: Wow, I was almost spot on with comments 2 and 5. That depresses me a lot.

Thank the maker. This franchise needs to get a sense of humour.
The second installment thought itself so painfully serious and profound I was tempted to uninstall the beast after the first four hours.

I disagree and considering you died in the first hour it should be.

I preferred the darker bits of 2 to the more light tones of 1, but eh. As long as it doesn't ruin what is an amazing trilogy, go for it.

lol well as long as they don't bust out in a musical piece in the middle of things for their attempt at more "fun and lightness" xD

2011? That seems a short ammount of time. I hope they won't release one half on release date and the other half through DLC's *fingers crossed* But knowing they will take a lighter tone gives hopes for a less suffocating game. Mass Effect 2 had quite a lot of cases of high octane nightmare fuel.

By all means. But I persist in my opinion that Mass Effect as a whole thinks it's a bit more clever than it actually is.
I like the universe, and I like the lore they established. But it goes to waste when the most stimulating scenario they can concoct involves ancient sentient machines hellbent on eradicating all organic life in the galaxy, on a regular schedule, for no other discernable reason than being the proverbial boogeymen next door.
Sure they inflect some sass and innuendo now and then; but those moments are either too obscure or simply not very amusing, I'd say.
I do not propose that BioWare reduce its property to a slapstick gagfest; but merely lament that, from the outset, the premise is so atrociously forgettable that the implied wonder of the setting is lost.

Fun and lightness. Might be a good thing, might be a bad thing. Won't really make a difference, since I'll buy the game anyway. Right after the first teaser trailer will be released and the releas date for the game announced, I'll stay far from anything that says Mass Effect 3 to avoid getting spoiled.

It was really fun playing ME2 without knowing anything that was gonna happen. I didn't know I was gonna die or who was gonna be in my squad. It was really all a pleasent surprise.

I don't think they'll be bringing in anything stupidly idealistic or silly, just a bit of a lighter tone. For example, no more character derailment like with Liara because they wanted a darker story, where she becomes some enraged information dealer with a grudge while nobody was looking.

So, in other words, it's Ewok time.

I do hope they don't get ridiculous. There was plenty of humor and lighter stuff in the first 2. If the Krogans turn into Gungans somehow, I am so boycotting Bioware for life.

Blasto is the first Hanar Spectre, although both species have weird speech so it could be confusing considering you never see him and also no, NEVER show Tali's face because no matter what face Bioware give her it'll be a let down compared to what most of us imagine her to look like.

OT: I liked the darker atmosphere of ME2 but I guess a little more humour wouldn't hurt (provided that it's appropriate and never breaks the mood at a critical point)

One of the darkest moments in Mass Effect 2 for me was finally coming face to face with the human reaper.... and passing out from laughing because it was so fucking bad!

I thought much of the humour in Mass Effect 2 turned puerile, probably to match with the new "pew pew" gameplay focus.

Yeah, lowbrow dumbasses certain loved the "asari hanar porn games" reference.

Bioware really do seem to be getting more and more annoying and pretentious as things go on.
