Mass Effect 3's Shepard Isn't Afraid of a Good Brawl

While the idea of an entire class devoted to melee doesn't appeal to me personally, I would love to see the melee experience more fleshed out with all of the classes. And, of course, the idea of biotic powered melee attacks is just cool regardless.

And so we see what was once a promising and intelligent franchise descend into populism and stupidity. All for the "awesome", of course.

Which part of the unconfirmed report indicated a descent into "populism" for you? Also, is adding in improvements that are popular bad?

I'm guessing it was the part where they said it wouldn't be the exact same game as ME1.

You also missed the part when they said, in a previous thread that ME3 would have more RPG elements than ME2. Weapon customization, bigger skill trees, and planet exploration just to name a few.

Not sure if i like the idea of a "pure melee class". I?m not sure how they would be able to close range even with the new "jumps, dodges, and rolls". I feel its moving away from its core demographic (rpg/shooter to just another shooter). Hopefully I?m wrong, but I am getting a bad feeling about this.

The original armour/weapons thing got a little grating after a while. Mostly it just all ended up as creds and omni gel. Despite the planet scanning being endless tedium I thought the upgrade system was alot tidier. I did miss the mako fun though :<

Looked up a swat turn and apprently it's when you spin while moving from cover to cover to make you harder to target. pro.

actually the Game Informer article stated that there is a lot less "convenient" cover this time around, and that Shepard will have to fight often out in the open. Which is probably why they are adding new melee moves and sentry guns for the Engineers.

EDIT: they also stated that they were trying to make the fighting areas more open, less same-y, and have more variation.

well, we'll see how that plays out. They barely changed at all between ME1 and ME2, so I expect a similarly small step up. Developer promises always need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Garrus has always been one for snappy combat dialogue ("Impressive! Scoped and dropped!"), I wonder if he's going to be getting a new line to add to his repertoire for dealing with Cerberus walkers...

In Mass Effect 1 the game would occasionally glitch Garrus's dialog and he would spam the phrase "Enemy is everywhere!" whenever a weapon is fired.

I hope they come up with some pretty good justification for why Cerberus is trying to kill you. I mean, what if you gave them the Collector base? What possible reason could they have to hate you?

Oh yeah, did anyone else read the bit in the Game Informer preview about how a Reaper fights a Thresher Maw. HOLY FUCKING SHIT!

I'm going to take this worth a grain of salt until I hear all of this come from BioWare directly. Too many people are getting either too excited or pissy over something that may not even be true.

I don't think they've added a new class, I remember reading the Game Informer article that said every class will be getting their own unique melee attack(s).

I hope the vanguard gets animation that involves ripping out an enemies skull and beating him to death with it. I do like a lot of how the changes sound, but I wonder what excuse they could have for why the illusive man hates renegade shepard. Hopefully you get to shoot him, or rip out his skull and beat him to death with it. He really doesn't give a shit about humanitty, he just wants power. Quite well demonstrated by his blatant disreagrd for his fellow man, not just aliens, often for very questionable reason. What useful data could you get by turning a threser maw loose on people anyway?

I think that the Illusive Man had really far out ulterior motives for his actions through out the series. I imagine that he sees Shepard as a loose end... or it is another instance of false choice. As much as I love Bioware and its games, I am fully aware that too often do they give you many dialogue options to pick from while they all have little effect on the overarching plot. For example, whether you act rude or friendly to people, they still view you the same and continue conversation almost completely ignoring your previous comment.

And the Thresher Maw thing could be about using them as weapons, or using their acid as a weapon.
