Wait . . . what attack helicopters? I don't remember any attack helicopters in Mass Effect One or Two . . . are there some in three? Why would they use helicopters in space? Even if it was for atmosphere only, they already have things that can hover . . . this makes no sense.
They were talking about the Gunships
Oh, I remember that from that "Stolen Memory" add on. Okay. That makes sense then.

i like the movie. it is well made and i had a good time watching it. a solid si-fi adventure with an interesting cast in it like james woods and a very attractive made woman :p lol. but i never liked the game. never really cared about it or had interest in it.

but never thought it has anything to do with mass effect. maybe because i havent seen the movie for ages now. lol.
i rather saw mass effect related to star wars, star trek and blade runner.

I really enjoyed the movie, shame it flopped. I would have liked to see another similar one made rather than the Advent Children movie - that bored me. Of course, I also don't care for the Final Fantasy games in the slightest.
I'm intrigued to hear that's where Mass Effect got ideas from, I guess that's why I thought a lot of the effects seemed familiar.

The movie was a bad Final Fantasy movie, but an alright movie in general. So..yeah. Although, to be fair i wonder what an Actual Sci-fi style Final Fantasy might actually end up looking like (XIII, VIII and VII are steam-punk, so they don't count).

It...kinda makes sense!

I'm also glad to see I'm not alone in this universe. I, too, liked AND enjoyed Spirits Within. Heck, I might even go as far as to say I liked it better than Advent Children. Well, except for the fight scenes...that Spirits Within lacks...completely.

(PS: I wanna play ME after this. I truly do. But these random, HUGE ME3 ads that pop out of nowhere! Ugh! They're starting to piss me off!)

And somehow Mass Effect still turned out good.

Huh. Just goes to show...
That's because they stole the story premise from somewhere else. :p
Yeah read the call of cthulu by H.P. lovecraft its basically that. Aliens hiding beyond space that will kill us all etc etc

I liked The Spirits Within. Better mo-cap CG movie where humans are killing nature than Avatar was, but well, we know how that turned out at the box office.

I swear I'm one of maybe 10 people on the planet who actually enjoy(ed) that film. I actually still own it. Yes it is cliched, no there is no FF magic. But darn it, its fun and I like it.
I do hope that there are more then ten of us.
The elements of "Final Fantasy" in the movie where quite hard to distinguish, but you could recognize several staples of the series if you looked for them.
I loved it back in the day, and still defend it against the usual "it was just a bad movie" slander.
Between the bouts of action, I remember it as a very subtle and soft spoken piece, which wasn't what people where hoping for when they got hyped up.Weither you liked it or not comes down to taste, sadly it didn't appeal to a mass audience enough to make up for the gigantic production costs.

On the technical side of things, they easily floored their competition. No other studio could produce CGI of that quality at that time. Weta's Work on the first Lotr came pretty close - but the shots with 100% CGI in them still don't reach the fidelity and compositional quality of The Spirits Within.
Just compare it with The Phantom Menace - and you'll see how much better their character animation and rendering was.

i liked spirits within. i hadn't played the games before i saw it though, but still when i think of it it was good. and for those who say it wasn't related to the series, ***** please, none of the games were related to the series. the series was only related by a single common thread, the title. oh, and a group of rebels taking on an oppressive empire, but they have all of that in the movie. in fact, the fact that the movie had nothing to do with one of the actual games only proves the fact that it's a true final fantasy movie! take that!

...Cool, I actually really liked the Final Fantasy movie. I thought it was generally good, and the visuals especially. Glad to see it had a legacy.

Unlike apparently everyone else in this thread I actually didn't like that movie. Still, it wasn't awesomely bad - just boring, short and cheesy. Certainly about as mediocre as Avatar.

All I can say is that if the ending of Mass Effect 3 is anywhere near as layered in cheesy sacrifice and hippy subtext as The Spirits Within's ending was, I'll be very disappointed.
