To everyone responding with a joke about ME2 - you're not clever.
Also, I'd say that the worst thing that could happen to it is too much focus on the gameplay.
I don't play ME games for the gameplay. And probably not that many people do.
-And yet a very common criticism about ME1 was that the shooting was rather weak. They tweaked the shooting to make it more action packed (messed up somewhat with the ammo, but that's a minor gripe), and everyone complains about
that and wants the old shooting back.
-Everyone hated elevators. The elevators are gone and we have loading screens that stop being interesting after the first hour. People complained about that too (though between the two, I prefer the elevators. At least the conversations between squadmates were amusing).
-Everyone hated the Mako. The Mako was trashed and we got the mining minigame. People hated the mining minigame (I personally didn't rage at either, but the Mako side missions annoyed me more than mining).
-Oh, and the side missions themselves. They all took place on some horrendously mountainous and unremarkable square of land that we scour every inch for in order to find metals and artifacts, then we look for an equally unremarkable building or mine and kill everything inside, then we leave. Boring as hell. Those were trashed. Now most of the side missions were more linear and your goal actually felt like it had some impact (especially with the Loyalty missions). People are complaining about how the game is one massive side story. "We're just collecting people and clearing up their baggage. Why aren't we blowing up Reapers?" Bioware just can't win.
Edit: I guess I should note that this comment isn't exactly directed at you. It's just that your little comment about "focusing too much on gameplay" made me realize how many problems Bioware tried to fix only to get shot at again anyway.
