As long as he's no longer looking quizzically at everything I'm happy:

Max from the first game was infinitely better than in the sequel. Name the place, time and weapon if you disagree.

Also you only saw that face in the in-game cut scenes, in which he was shooting at something 90% of the time, so it fits because that's the expression I would have if I really wanted somebody dead right now. And it clearly displays anger and contempt, not puzzlement (although I agree that the eyebrows are over the top).
Max walked into his home saying 'Honey, I'm home' with that expression at the start of the game...

...ok, fine :D

But he was still way better in these comics between chapters.
Agreed, loved those vignettes.

Even though Max had a semi-constipated grimace in the first game, I prefer his face in that one. His second face felt too generic for me. I don't know how to explain it... I guess what I'm trying to say is that in the second one he looked like a handsome actor and in the first one he just looked like an average guy.

That said, I'm still unsure of how to feel about Max Payne 3. I guess it doesn't matter since I probably won't be able to run it anyway. xD

I hope they include something similar to the TV shows in 1 and 2. ♥Address Unknown + Dick Justice!

Surely they could make an older version of *that* with today's tech :( At least pics 9 and 12 look promising - I'd take MP2's Payne face over the "hobo" look any day.

Please just ditch the whole bald, sunny and South America bullshit and get Payne's ass back to gritty New York!

So, it's moving from New York to South America. (Modern Warfare 2?)
It's no longer dark, rainy and gloomy, it's bright, clear and brown. (Any modern Shooter)
He's no longer wearing a suit, he's wearing a dirty wifebeater. (Kayne and Lynch)
Also - lens flare and cover based shooting! (Any modern shooter.)

So... Max Payne is now another generic off-the-shelf knock-off shooter. Yes, I'm clearly looking forward to this. This seems much better than story-driven film noir. You know, because there have been so much of those lately.

Urgh. What's probably happened is that someone put a generi-shooter together, then thought "Hmm.. let's put in Bullet Time! That'll make it new and distinct! We'll be rich!", and then they thought "Max Payne had Bullet Time.... let's buy the licence to get the Max Payne crowd as well!".

Max Payne is now just another X-Com.... it's a shame to see what they do to these old franchises...

I mean, what's next? Doom as a cover-based shooter? Planetside as a cover-based shooter? Castle Wolfenstien as a cover-based shooter? Tribes as a cover based shooter? Deus Ex as a cover based shooter? Oh, wait...

Well, I'm relieved that we're discussing about different outfits not a permanent change here.

Or perhaps it's not different outfits. Perhaps its some kinda of self perception based on the warped and haunted mind of Max Payne.
Actually, it would be really neat if the bald wifebeater version was what Payne imagines himself looking like while having painkiller induced hallucinations. Brasil is like anti-NY, so that would explain why he escapes there in his mind.

I lol'd.

You've picked aesthetic choices of a game that's been in development for years and jumping to conclusions on gameplay from a company that has never done 'generic shooter'?

Edit: There's a lot of whining about the changes made - unlike those from the 1800's on here I don't care if they change the character. I only care that it works.

Max Payne 2 is one of the best games ever imo. It also introduced me to Poets of the Fall which is still one of my favorite bands. That game, and the first one, made me feel proud to be Finnish person.

OT Max Payne 3 just seems to be a basic modern shooter and that makes me really sad. Of course they could make a good game but I'm not looking forward to this. Ever since I found out that Remedy isn't making the third one, I haven't been interested. And seriously South America.....

Am I the only one who believes that these looks are going to chronicle Max's even further downfall. It seems like the story will start in New York with his old look and progress to him getting heavier and balder as he ends up south of the border.

I get annoyed at how bothered people are over Max's change in appearance. "RUINED FOREVEA!!!"

How implausible is it that a man might get older, balder and fatter? We need more badass grumpy old men in games, and I'd rather see him in a wifebeater than a skin tight MGS4 stealth suit. I like the change and I was already getting tired of the hardboiled aesthetic by the second game.

Why is there a silencer in one screenshot? Max Payne doesn't need a fucking silencer. I hope that doesn't imply there's going to be some "stealth mission" bullshit.

So when you age you end up looking absolutely nothing like you used to?
Interesting...
