...died during the suicide mission?

im asking this because i just beat the game and lost 5 squad-mates(Legion, Thane, Grunt, Jack, and Mordin) and i was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience.

EDIT: Based on the comments i conclude that everyone else is awesome at the game and i suck.
Also thanks for the info i will use this information to make my 2nd play-through less messy.

Hmm.. nope, I brought everyone through alive.

Sounds like someone either missed a loyalty quest or two or did a bad job at assigning the squadmembers to their tasks.

During my first suicide mission only Legion died (he was specialist), because, as I found out, Samara is a crappy fire squad leader lol. Oh, and Kelly now works as a milkshake.

Jack died but I hated her so didn't care. I was just glad Garrus was okay. Hope he is a male romance in 3. Also I was late getting there so my secretary brings all the boys to the yard.

I didn't lose anyone. Did you even upgrade your ship?

You wouldn't believe how much this made my day. Thank you, sir.

OT: I played like Shepard = The Doctor. So, naturally, the second I thought someone died, I shitstormed the whole thing. Ran straight ahead, guns blazing through the whole last level and used minimal cover for the final boss fight, steady stream of bullets basically the whole time. Then I found out no one died. Felt good, man.

EDIT: Okay, maybe I played more like River Song. But still.

You put the lone-wolf vigilante in charge of the squad? Not a great idea in retrospect huh :p

OT: I lost no one.

if you don't get the hull upgrade jack dies

shield upgrade legion dies

gun upgrade thane dies

there are a few ways to kill grunt, and mordin so I would say upgrade the ship, and do those twos loyalty missions.

Zaeed died on my first playthrough because I didn't have his loyalty. Didn't care much to be honest. On subsequent playthroughs I've made sure not to lose anybody though (including captive crewmembers).

My first playthrough I lost Miranda and no one else. I'd say that's pretty solid, I don't think anyone likes her anyways. I sure as hell don't.

First playthrough with Paragon Femshep: None.

Second playthrough with Renegade MaleShep: Katsumi. Which sucked. I thought the girl could handle herself in a tube and hacking doors, but no, apparently not. She did it on her loyalty mission just fine, but it seems she's just incompetent.

I was TRYING to kill several other characters (avoided their loyalty missions so that they would die) and THEY survived. I did Katsumi's mission, and she ended up taking a rocket to the face. Not fair. **grumble**

Third playthough with mixed FemShep... haven't gotten to the suicide mission yet.

Pro Tip: UPGRADE YOUR SHIP COMPLETELY. If you lost five, I'm guessing you lost a few during the ship battle. Upgrade your ship and none will die there.

I lost Jack, and I'm not too worried about it, but I took too long trying to do Legion's final quest, so I lost half the crew. I've been meaning to go back and try again, but it's about three hours that I don't know if I can handle doing again.

None. Upgrade ALL PARTS completely.

to kill Miranda, don't make her loyal (don't do her loyalty mission) and then take her with you to the final boss fight. After the fight, any non-loyal characters die (I believe - never tried it myself). I believe that is the only guaranteed way to kill Miranda.

Anyone else know of another guaranteed way to kill Miranda?

Note: Miranda will ALWAYS survive the ship deaths because she's on the bridge.

I am very proud to say that my very first time through I lost nobody. Not one crew member, not one squad mate. Though I honestly took like 20 minutes at every decision junction picking who would do what, lol.

Except for having Garrus lead B team. I figured he needed to prove to himself he could do it, and I knew from his work on omega he could, as much as I wanted to leave it to Miranda.

Other than that though I stared at the select screen for a long time on the other decisions saying things like "Let's see. I know Tali is a tech expert, but legion is also a lot more durable and a decent fighter..." or "Who can I trust to protect everyone on their way back to the ship?"

First play-through I lost Thane, he died taking the crew members back to the Normandy. He was my only squad member who wasn't loyal (ballsed up his mission.)
All other times no-one has died.

Speaking from personal experience and multiple playthroughs;

If you upgrade everything on the ship, do all the loyalty missions, go through the omega 4 relay directly (otherwise atleast Kelly will die because youre not fast enough) and send;

Tali, Legion or Kasumi through the vent (Since theyre all tech experts.)

Garrus, Miranda or Jacob as Fire-Team leader (Since theyre all trained soldiers and able to command)

Jack or Samara/Morinth to generate the biotic shield (Since they have the best biotic abilites)

Miranda, Jacob or Garrus as Second Fire-Team leader (Same reason as before)

And finally Mordin to escort the survivors back (Since he's a scientist, not a fighter and he might die in the final battle)

= Everyone survives and lives happily ever after... For a couple of days before the reapers come. ;/
