ME3: .....gay romance......why Kaiden and not Ashly?

The same sex relationships were botched pretty badly, which I saw coming when Bioware made a big deal out of announcing it. So many NPCs exist seemingly for the sole purpose of being gay; Cortez being the most blatant example. With the exception of squadmates, NPC's personal lives were de-emphasized in the first two games, but in three we suddenly have NPCs talking about their same sex (usually lesbian) relationships all over the Citadel. For the most part it's just annoying; this game is about saving the galaxy, not probing NPC's sex lives. But that asari mistress trying to get a human to divorce her husband who's out fighting the Reapers I wanted to punch out harder than Al-Jalani.

I can see some rationale for Kaiden being bi, and for Ashley being straight. The first game was several years ago, so it's conceivable that Kaiden hadn't come to terms with his sexuality then. Ashley is a religious person, and will actually quote Bible verses in some conversations, so one would expect her to be less open minded about sex.

(some unfortunate choices with gender/race impacts on stats aside)
Care to elaborate? I actually thought those were clever ways of making the race/gender affect your character, but at the same time it doesn't define your character.
It is a little weird how playing as a dark-skinned human means you get lower mental stats but are more athletic. They ditched it for Skyrim, apparently, which is pretty welcome.
Well, naturally that is the case. Redguards, Nords and Orcs are all warrior races, and their cultures are intolerant of magic, for which the defining attribute is Intelligence.
The point is that there are unfortunate implications in the whole "playing a black guy? -10 intelligence, -10 willpower, +10 strength, +10 endurance." And the difference in different cultures is better represented by giving them different skill bonuses, anyway.

To be honest, all the races in Skyrim feel all the same, so I wonder why you consider it a good thing. Their powers are really, really useless for the most part, and the skill boosts are not enough to tell you about your charcter's race and culture.
Hardly the first time this is a thing in an Elder Scrolls game - race doesn't matter very much in most of them unless you're talking elemental immunity/resistance/weakness.

Haven't played the game yet so please be delicate if you respond but Kaidan was a gay romance option and Ashley wasn't?
You know what, I am honestly not surprised, I could see him swinging both ways.

I think femshep has PLENTY of options as it is.

6 total romance options in ME3 (for femshep).
4 of them are female.
1 (male) you had to romance in ME2.
1 (male) you had to save in ME1.

Alright, allow me to explain this: One character is bisexual, the other is straight. That's it. As much as I'd like to have Male Shepard and Garrus to bang, I can't have it because Garrus isn't into that. Ashley isn't into that either.

No, the whole "beauty contest" thing. How much more can they miss the point of what makes FemShep a breath of fresh air?
Have you actually seen her in-game facial model? She looks ridiculous! "Canon FemShep" - of which what was wrong with the one that was already featured since the FIRST FUCKING GAME is beyond me - looks fine in official artwork and promos and such, but in the game itself she looks like a fucking clown.

It's like Liara's appearance during ME2's core game [http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/Ruffin316/Hi-Def%20Sage%20Screens/Rendezvous.jpg] and the LotSB DLC [http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/Ruffin316/Hi-Def%20Sage%20Screens/Confrontation.jpg]. The differences are so dramatic you can barely tell they're the same character.

---

As for the topic at hand, all I've wanted since the first game was for my Fem [http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/Ruffin316/Hi-Def%20Sage%20Screens/ErikaAllisonShepard3.jpg]Shep [http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/Ruffin316/Hi-Def%20Sage%20Screens/QueryStandardErika.jpg] to hook up with Ash as far as the (moderately shoe-horned) romance options were concerned, and it wasn't for the sake of "lol lezbo soljah gurlz" (as hot a concept I think that is). Ash always seemed like the best fit out of all the available "suitors", if you will.

That was, of course, before that fateful encounter on Horizon, leading my FemShep to eventually say "fuck this shit" and move what they say "the fuck on" (I'm one of those goobers that likes to play as their character as opposed to through him/her like most gamers). I like to imagine my FemShep silently storming to the elevator of the Normandy, going to the Captain's Cabin, and putting a frustrated fist into one of the glass fixtures of the fish-tank.

ME3 came along and I was kinda hoping that Ash and my FemShep could work out the differences and such - FemShep even got Ash a book of poems! - but no such luck. Alas, it just wasn't meant to be, I suppose.

For the record, Spc Traynor has a lovely accent... and my FemShep definitely noticed...
