Yay a thread about metal music! .............. wait what are we supposed to talk about?

Edit: To help every one with the horrible amount of sub-genres (we don't want to offend each other right) click here [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_metal_subgenres] for a helpful list of metal sub-genres.

Judging by what I've seen on youtube, discuss how you're 14 and your dislike for Justin Beiber.

OT: A few additions to that list: And So I Watch You From Afar, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Opeth, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, UnExpect.

Metal! :D
Yeah, you have a good point there... how about this: For how long have you been listening to metal, what's been keeping you interested in metal for the duration in which you have been listening to it?

For me, I started listening to metal at a fairly young age, 10 years old. My first metal band was Metallica and the first metal song I've heard was Battery. The thing that's keeping me interested in metal is the variation of the bands and the constant innovation. There's always something new to listen to and there are always bands perfecting some old types of metal. Also, the lyrics are awesome.

I've heard of Opeth and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum from those.. Opeth never did anything for me and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum is.. interesting to say the least. Will check out the other three bands as soon as I have the time.

Fun Fact: I'm 14 years old.

Well I sort of mentioned Devin Townsend by mentioning his project, Strapping Young Lad but yeah.. I've never listened to a Japanese band, should probably get to it.

Dude I started out the same way, well almost the same way my first metal song was Master of Puppets on their S&M album and since then I haven't looked back. What keeps me still interested in metal is the large variety of metal, yes some people may ***** that there are 50,000 metal sub-genres but that just keeps it interesting to me.

Nightwish counts as metal, right? (Don't kill me ^^')

The Agonist, Otep, Dethklok, Opeth, Pantera, Mastodon, Amon Amarth, The Dillinger Escape Plan (if that really counts,) Epica, Gallhammer, and Goat Whore.

There are other metal bands that I know I like, but apparently not enough to remember the names.

These are suggestions/recommendations, BTW.

Dude, Bulb from Periphery invented the term Djent and you haven't labeled them as such? AAL should be under that category. Oh, and your list requires more TesseracT.

Haha that might be a pretty accurate estimate of the number of subgenres. But yeah, there's something for everybody, from the slow and drawn out pace of Doom Metal or Stoner Metal to stuff like Brutal Technical Death Metal (God, that sounds ridiculous).

Well Bulb is Djent but I don't see what's so Djenty about Periphery.

Djent is the name given to the high compression high distortion palm muted guitar tone for which bands like Periphery are famous for. You know the main riff in Icarus Lives? That's Djent.

After taking a look at the list your missing some really good bands, so let me add to the list.

Scar Symmetry- Melodic death metal
Soilwork- Melodic death metal
Sylosis- Thrash metal
Demon Hunter- Christian metal (don't hate me)
Solution .45- Melodic death metal
Torchbearer- Melodic death metal?
Disarmonia Mundi- Melodic death metal
Miseration- Melodic death metal
Universum- Melodic death metal

I wonder which sub-genre I like the best.

Let me just say, that I completely <3 Strapping Young Lad.
And yes, I'm completely aware of the un-metal of saying that.
I'm sure Devin Townsend would laaaaugh! :p

Also: Gene Hoglan is god on drums.
