I was thinking the same thing. I read through the comments to see if there was a magical branch I had missed. Is the 6th branch like the M.I.B. or something?

Hopefully, Lars Ulrich won't try to sue everyone for no reason.
No reason, eh?

Anyone who really, truly believes that the Napster lawsuit was unjust is very, VERY naive. Until you create something and suddenly everyone has access to it FOR FREE, you probably wouldn't understand. As Lars himself said: "It's not about money for me, do I look like I need the money? I'm fine, thank you."

It was about KILLING the underground movement of music.

You know how Metallica got rolling?

Travelling all over the state of California, sharing a single $8 plate at an all you can eat buffet (even sharing the fork) because they had no money, playing at shows and trying to sell their demos. That's how they got started. Those demo sales gave them money to continue doing this.

Eventually, they exploded.

Now, imagine if you're an up and coming band these days, during the age of music piracy. You really think anyone is going to buy your demo when they can just hop online and download it for free?

Where are you going to get the money to continue touring and promoting yourself? You're NOT. The truly creative bands, the bands that have promise will die because of this.

Instead, we're given bands like Nickleback and the like that are swooped up by the music production warehouse CEO because they can sell their image, then all of their songs are written by some dudes sitting in front of computers and all they have to do is travel around and lip sync.

So, before you go blaming Metallica for ruining your precious Napster, just remember that your precious Napster probably ruined the music industry forever, and that Lars obviously saw that coming - since he lived through the hard ships that up and coming bands have to go through to get noticed.
If they didn't want to struggle they shouldn't have gone into the music business. Of course you are going to get fucked over in one way or another. Also, these days musicians make money off of record company salaries and concerts, NOT record sales. Artists don't see any direct profit from that anymore.

So when you download a song by Metallica you are stealing 99 cents from Sony Music (or w/e) and not the band.

Oh fucking please the internet has only been a 100% complete boon to the underground music scene. Of course you think that record sales account for the majority of an artist's income, get real, all the real money is made off tours and merchandise. Putting a demo on Facebook or Myspace (Myspace is still better social network when it comes to music) puts word of mouth to the street and someone who downloaded and enjoyed my album is more likely to go see me play live. You start off small playing local venues with little to no travel costs and once your career has taken off then you can afford expand your influence.

You know who doesn't like the internet, record labels, you know the party that makes all the profits off record sales while paying pennies to the artist for each album sold. Why don't they like the internet? It renders them obsolete as any artist can become successful on their own. I've known plenty of DJs that owned their own labels and became successful with only the internet at their disposal. As long as the corporation profits it's all good right?

I bet you voted republican too.

Ya Metallica... sellout much... yet again?

Haven't they got enough money to retire already, and keep the last grain of dignity.

What would make more sense is if Metallica were the playable characters in zombie mode. "Someone revive Lars!" "No."

Clearly you are forgetting the highly secretive Supernatural Services Division, which protects all of humanity from threats we don't even know exist.

Either that or, possibly, Activision is treating the National Guard as a sixth, independent military branch. Please don't lecture me about whether or not this is accurate (or even try to explain it politely), I'm just guessing that it's what Acti has in mind.

Douchy CoD players who listen to "new" Metallica, they must claim to know games like they know music, ZING.
Quoted because you had my favorite response in a thread full of good shit talking.

So yeah, I agree 100%

Way to stay current COD. Nothing says metal like senior citizen grammy award winners. Or they're just stereotyping the members of the military.

So to get by they stole food from hardworking restaurants? Maybe they could have gotten a real job and not stolen food, like the rest of us. But its not okay to steal their product? Way to prove how hypocritical they are. Its just another reminder of why people despise them more than any other metal band.

Q to the F to the fucking T.
Fuckin A.

Metallica are great, and the new CoD looks pretty fun, so surely this can be nothing but a good idea? Plus, it's for a good cause.
hooray!

I thought they went a long way towards redeeming themselves with Death Magnetic in '08, and the concert I attended last year was absolutely fantastic.
Metallica started losing me back around Justice, to be honest. It was a big step down from Master. Garage Inc. was great, the black album, Load and Reload all had their moments, but Metallica hasn't been a "must-buy" band for me for years.

Live, though, they're brilliant, you'll get no argument from me. Not many bands put on a show that can rival those of Metallica.

I'm not going to bother reacting to many people's posts here. I've always liked Metallica's pre-90's music, and I'm glad they're trying to help veterans find employment. Though if anyone here is moderately interested in joining the forces, it might be a good idea to get a trade before going infantry. If you stick to infantry only, employers will only see a future head case trained to kill (this is why veterans can't find jobs. Employers become responsible for their actoins via lawsuits). However, if you were trained to do a trade (carpentry, welding, etc.), Then employers see some one that may be beneficial to their business. I'm glad a company that creates war simulators and a band who's initial influence was war came together to help those who survived the conflicts they try to bring to light. Personally I stopped listening to Metallica since I discovered Pink Floyd. But their music is still good (at least before the 90's). I've been more a MoH fan, but I look forward to a new CoD.
