For all the hoopla over the dethroning of the "enemy", I do feel some sympathy for the poor bastard.

Yes, he has actively held a position that directly interfered with the dear hobbies of Australian gamers for quite a while now, operating under a worldview that directly conflicts with my own. Yet still, the essence of the situation is that he is a man who stuck to his principles in the public arena and endured scathing criticism for it. To do that, you have to be either breathtakingly oblivious or fairly brave. And I personally don't believe he could possibly have been oblivious to the ramifications of his politics.

So yes, I celebrate this victory for the freedom for Australian gamers to partake of their hobby of choice, but from one ideologue to another, I respect the opponent who has chosen to lay down his sword and leave the battlefield. I can only hope that my fellow gamers will have the intelligence and compassion to recognize this as well and not continue to burn the man in effigy for past sins.

All depends on the state ALP caucus that will be held in a few weeks time, where the ALP factions will squabble over who gets which slices of the pie.

Two names are already being tossed around - Jay Weatherill and John Rau. Problem there is Weatherill is challenging for deputy premier and if he screws that up he'll end up exiled as Minister for Local Government or something equally useless... As for John Rau, having someone who's actually had a career as a lawyer take up the position as Attorney General is just too logical and sane for it to happen, so he'll probably end up as Health or Transport minister.

Let me say . . . EPIC MOTHER FUCKING WIN FOR THE AUSSIE GAMERS!

it's about damned TIME you guys got a proper rating for their games so they can actually PLAY the same things we get out here in the US.

Hopefully now Heavy Rain will get out to them . . . not that Yahtzee hasn't already played it.
What? i bought it in Australia the first day it came out.. did it get recalled or something?

Edit: i just checked, it has never been recalled and its been here for as long as it has in the US. But thx for the support anyway mate!
I didn't know, but given the ammount of violence, visceral ammounts of gore with Ethan and . . . well, yeah, Madison's nude scene and the "adult themes" of the rest of the game I'd naturally thought that most likely Yahtzee had found himself a copy thanks to Game Traders Robina (like SSBB) or something . . .

I mean come on . . . the contents of the game are the kind that seem almost GARUNTEED to be held off at the gates with someone like Atkinson in power. But now it's likely that'll stop.

Thats understandable considering one of the biggest critisism is the classification boards inconsistency.

Rau, as a lawyer, would most likely be more open to the idea of an R18 classification.

Awesome

I gotta think this is going to turn into a holiday for Aussie gamers.
Be like the end of WWII, people in the streets kissing nurses and throwing confetti.

Also I got 20 bucks says this pops up profusely in the next Zero Punctuation :p lol

No, and this is the consequence of Atkinson's actions that I can guarantee he's never thought of himself.
Alien vs. Predator, Grand Theft Auto, Heavy Rain and other games that (in my eyes, anyway) SHOULD be rated R here are available to 15 year old kids because they get pushed down to an MA.
Hopefully we'll get sensible, consistent ratings soon.

The persecution of my Aussie brothers and sisters in gaming by that shit head is finally over! One of the foremost persecutors of our beloved medium will no longer force our Aussie comrades to hide in fear! Rejoice! (and there was much rejoicing...Yeeaaah!)
