Not being Australian, this doesn't affect me. However, being a gamer, I can perfectly empathise with Australia's predicament, and therefore give my wholehearted congratulations.

Although I'm annoyed Mr. Atkinson played the "I'm still human" card. Trying to mitigate our hatred?

Good riddance. I'm glad this guy is now out of office. We'll see how this pans out for the R18+ ratings, but I have my fingers crossed for you loving Aussies.

Jack Thompson: barred.
Michael Atkinson: resigned.

The moral: ****ing with gamers will always end badly for you.

Hopefully now Heavy Rain will get out to them . . . not that Yahtzee hasn't already played it.
Uh... Australia has Heavy Rain, it was granted an MA15+ rating uncensored.

Atkinson will stay in parliament until the next election in 2014
He stepped down but he's still there till 2014 and if I'm not mistaken the big vote for an R18+ rating is sooner than that. So the evil old bastard can still block it.

OT: Too bad it's not immediate. He still has 4 years or so to ruin Austrailia.
You guys need to read more carefully. Yes Atkinson is remaining in Parliament until 2014, but as a backbencher. He has resigned from his Attorney-General position meaning he no longer has any say whatsoever on the R18 rating debate.

I can't wait until April to find out if we do get that R rating finally. I've already got massive freedom of speech party plans. Now we just need to topple Stephen Conroy, and Australia can regain its status as a brilliant country.

Congratulations Aussies!

I've been against Atkinson as an American trying to protect the human right of free expression, and I'm so happy for your country right now.

Enjoy your artistic freedom!

Also enjoy Left 4 Dead 2 legally!

This cannot be true. Who can the gamer population rally against now?
Oooh, now I remember...
Bobby Kotick!

Maybe now Australian gamers will get what they've been asking for (what with Atkinson being the ONLY one who's against an adult rating).

This is win.

Here's hoping that gamers in Australia will be treated right.

Akinson is the horde of Orcs fleeing from Minas Tirath, but on the horizon comes Conroy and his Great Firewall of Australia riding their Mumakil.

Its a shame G4C lost the election too, the R18 would have been a sure thing if they won. Any S.A residents have any leads on the newbie?

Hurraaaay!

I have to admit, the whole 'soccer' (its called football!) reason thing was rather nice of him, actually, even if it does sound like a bit of a bullshit reason to step down...

"I'm stepping down not cause I'm ridiculously unpopular, its because I want to watch my child play footballsoccer!"

Sounds ulmost like

"I haven't done my homework, not because I'm lazy, but because my dog ate it!"

I'm not calling victory until Australia gets its 18+ rating. Who knows, his replacement might be just as big a moron as he is.

People, I say we all toast to this!

Bring out your Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper, or any other kind of disgusting beverage you drink while gaming. This must be celebrated!

I call dibs on the wish-bone!

[sub]Oh, and as a side note, I'm not surprised his son is embarrassed about him going to his soccer games. [/sub]
I personally would be embarrassed to be related to him. It would be interesting to see what (if any) videogames his son plays.

Let me say . . . EPIC MOTHER FUCKING WIN FOR THE AUSSIE GAMERS!

it's about damned TIME you guys got a proper rating for their games so they can actually PLAY the same things we get out here in the US.

Hopefully now Heavy Rain will get out to them . . . not that Yahtzee hasn't already played it.
What? i bought it in Australia the first day it came out.. did it get recalled or something?

Edit: i just checked, it has never been recalled and its been here for as long as it has in the US. But thx for the support anyway mate!
