wow, i'm glad i play on PC where the pirates roam free.
Funny thing then that I have about 8 original games for my XBOX 360, 1 for the PS3 (and it was bought used), and over 30 (I've seriously lost count) all bought new for my PC.

Are there many complaints of lawful users that got banned as well? Or from users that "hacked" it to play own applications or to run Linux for instance?

There is no modchip, homebrew or region-unlock for 360, only a DVD drive firmware hack that allows to play copies.

Well the article states this:
[T]hough as noted in the Guardian's report, modded consoles are also used to play homebrew applications and imported titles that would otherwise be unplayable.

Well they caught 1 million, but you have to wonder how many they didn't catch. I can say with total certainty they didn't catch all of them and I'd wager that of the ones they did catch the majority will find a way to get back sooner rather than later. Piracy will 99 times out of 100 adapt to these minor set backs and be back and stronger than ever until the next bump in the road comes along then it will be time to adapt and move forward yet again.
They will never catch them all, but taking them down a peg is a bloody good start

I have no sympathy with the banned xbox users, after all when you act as a pirate...avast ye... you have to know that there is a chance of getting caught and punished. So they have themselves to blaim tbh. Tbh its good in my opinion that mircrosoft has decided to do it, its going to act as a big deterant from now on.

I'm happy to pay and support my main source of entertainment. And I can't help but feel glad for the developers for this.

Well the Guardian's report is wrong. I challenge you to find a single working modchip for X360 and a single working, end-user-ready homebrew for that modchip. Considering that the entire base of the article is based on misinformation (i.e., the rumors of Microsoft's internal push to get 1M bans before Christmas rush translated into 1M bans already without any official statement from MS) it doesn't really surprise me that they've just read some wiki page on modchips in general without researching any specifics.

*checks eBay*

Sure enough, there's suddenly a lot of XBox 360s up for sale for surprisingly cheap prices... to which the owners happened to forget to mention that they can no longer get online.

Yeah, I can't feel too sorry for the kind of people who feel completely justified to rip off others for their kicks.

I hope that only the console is banned
it is only the console that is banned. You can move your live account to another system and it works fine. Atleast that worked for my friend any way.

Wait, can someone explain this to me? Since they robbed Xbox 360s of money they aren't allowed to pay the 15 dollar a month cost to use live? Why not just up their Live cost to like $30 to get the money back or something?

I kind of agree, and yet i just feel like they aren't going to stop it, its like a tempt fix really, modder just have to buy and mod a new box, not hard if they know how. I kinda see it as a way for MS to get more cash out of this, rather than trying to stop the problem.
