Unless they fired the people who thought it was a good idea in the first place, I don't see this convincing me they have my best interests at heart, and aren't just caving to social pressure.

I'm a Sony/Nintendo fan through and through but this is great news.

A victory for the consumer!
Let's make it clear
The consumer won NOTHING here, or maybe it looks like it did, on the surface.

But Microsoft didn't listen to the consumer. It listened to it's sales chart. The ones that were indicating their consoles were being outsold almost 5 to 1 in their own country of prevalence.

If the odds weren't so contrasted, trust me, they would've done NOTHING even if we complained twice as much. If they were alone facing nintendo, they would've made the requirements even probably worse.

It's a good thing but for me, it's just mostly shows how slimy m$ is. How pathetic their attempts of saying "BUT CLOUD GAMING IS MANDATORY", how they were so arrogant about it, how it couldn't be changed.

And people will praise them for this too, holy shit
This. ALL of this. And I hate the fact that people will turn RIGHT around and call them "sensible" and that they "listened to the customer". Bullshit. They didn't listen to crap except their own wallets screaming.
You two seem to not know anything about what just happened.... They LISTENED to the customers. They LISTENED that the customers werent going to BUY their console because of DRM.

Customers: "We arent buy this consle because of DRM!"
Microsoft: "Sir, we are losing sales because the customers arent buying the console because of DRM."

Do you think Sony really cares about you? They are doing the same thing, they are making their console to HELP THEIR WALLETS.

OT: Im actually thinking of buying an X1 now. Just gotta get the funds.
Of course not. Both companies are after the money, but Sony made good business decisions regarding the current situation. I said in another post, Sony didn't do anything mind-blowing. They didn't do anything, but compared to what MS did, it came out to gold. What I'm saying is that MS listened to Xbones not selling. If PS4 had DRM like Xbone, then I doubt they would change anything.. Unless people didn't buy either console, but I doubt that would happen.

Alright everyone! Now just pile on the hate for the new Kinect-mandatory aspect so they'll get rid of that and this console just might be buyable!

Seriously, if they REALLY want to push the Kinect onto us, there's at least a less heavy-handed way to do it: include it with the new console, but make it optional. Developers will still make games for it seeing as how they know everyone's got one, but you get NONE of the drawbacks of people being forced to install an audio/video camera in their livingroom that constantly watches them and can read their heart rate...seriously, I still don't understand why the hell a game console accessory would need to do that...

See? This goes to show what all this "mindless hatred" can bring about if we all voice our concerns and speak with our wallets. But Microsoft still has a ways to go. They need to get rid of the mandatory Kinect. That's still a major problem. Especially if they want to make sales to the military. They're also going to want to drop the price to compete with PS4 especially since they are supposedly underpowered compared to it.

Still not getting it though. Damage is already done and I can't trust them. Maybe a few years into its cycle if they address the Kinect issue. But I'll be way into PC gaming and PS4 goodness by then to probably even care.

I still probably won't get one. Two reason. One:

DTWolfwood said:
Still requires Kinect? No thanks. :/
And two, they were outright dicks to us right up to the last moment. They didn't try and repair the situation until they had not only shot themselves in the foot, but amputated it and rubbed gangrenous meat on the stump. This is a bad way to get my business.

Amusingly when the Steam Box is released (I bet this November also) it will be the platform that MS wish their console had been. :D

You're still not of the hook Microsoft.
The Xbone may take used games and have no drm requirements but you are still not redeemed.
You still tried to screw over the consumers for personal gain. You still acted unreasonable and hostile when confronted about anything.
and you are still pushing shit with didn't want at us like Kinect, tv, no games and you'll still spy on us.
We do not trust you anymore.

You listened to what we wanted and you did the things we told you not to.
And now you can't even stand by it. You spineless, greedy basterds. You are far from being of the hook

I guess the digital gaming is delayed for another 10 years then... Shame.
Welcome back 60$ games. It may even go higher, I heard the prices of the plastic are going up.

I'm glad this whole XB1 thing is teaching folks about what is so shitty about capitalism. It only VALUES one thing. And... btw, Sony is = MS when it comes to what motivates them.
So are you mad at Sony too? They only want money.
Can you explain about Sony's motivation? You mean the money? Not going against your saying or anything, just a bit confused is all. I don't mind that either companies are after the money as long as they deliver something that the consumers want. That's a sensible trade, isn't it?

Here's a phrase Pierce Brosnan taught me in the film Dante's Peak, and I'll never forget it.

"Put a frog into boiling water, and it'll jump right out. Put a frog into cold water, and slowly heat it, and it will boil to death."

"So, is that your recipe for frog soup?"

"It's my recipe for disaster."

Mark my words, they'll bring these restrictions back very slowly so as the general public are less phased by them, and sooner or later we'll be back to square one. Nothing MS say now will make me trust them, especially after the verbal shit Angry Joe had to take from Major Nelson at E3, regarding the "you want to go to the future don't you Angry Joe?" and the "are you an Xbox technician? How do you know it's simple to disable the always online?" What a nasty little man.

I don't think anyone will say you're wrong in your points. Hell, I agree with you 110%!

This is a glorious day! Microsoft is scrambling around trying to recoup the good will and sales they pissed away, and in the process validated all the rumors of their deceit. It's almost poetic in a way.

Personally, Microsoft doesn't deserve any of that consumer trust back, considering how they all but fucked us all over. But the power of the consumer has spoken. If Microsoft doesn't want to completely dismantle or sell off their gaming division they better learn how to play ball with the consumer.

We're the power here, not them.

Besides, if you guys really have a problem with privacy, then put a bloody box over the Kinect FFS.
While this is some sort of solution, it's not a very good one.

What if you don't want one at all? Can you buy the console without it?

What if you don't have space to even put a Kinect, let alone use one.

What if you don't have a lot of money and don't want to pay extra for something almost completely fucking useless barring it's advanced voice recognition (which could be implemented into a headset microphone).

Captcha: Pea brain.

Now now Captcha, you don't want to feel the banhammer do you? That's rude.

Well it's good to hear Microsoft (might) be listening to the gaming community and/or reason.

A multi-billion dollar international corporation has listened to what they call "a vocal minority" and then seriously considered doing something to address the complaints? Getdafuqout! The alarm's going to go off in a few minutes and I'm going to have to go to work, right? :D
Et all...

Don't be silly. If anything they are still listening to "THE ALLMIGHTY CHARTS" and the charts said they were going to lose money.

I could see MS doing this for sales and then re-implementing these "really helpful and cool features" (almost breaks fingers for typing that) because of the little blurb in the EULA "we reserve the right to modify, change, and/or stop services at any time for any reason". So yea... Imma wait and see what happens if it's all the same to you MS, and if it aint ow well. Tough shit. You should have thought about that before to tried to bend me over for publishers to have their way with me. -.-

"The PS4 won't make us change a thing!" *FOUR days later*
"We changed our policy completely!"

I mean, this does put them on more even playing field, of course...

But now it just looks like a more expensive, less powerful PS4.

Regardless of whatever's being said, I do have to admit that this week's been very exciting. I like this. But still.. Does anyone still want to punch Don Mattrick and Major Nelson in their faces? Or is it just me and my violence..

YAY! :D

So, now we only have to contend with higher prices, lower power, forced usage of a piece of tech nobody likes when compared to it's competition. :)

Good for them. They've gotten rid of one of many reasons I will not be getting an Xbone. Get rid of Kinect always on, actually get rid of Kinect entirely. I still doubt I will pick up an Xbone. Maybe in 4 years when it price drops and if it has 5+ exclusives that I actually want. Otherwise I think I'll just stick with my PC and Wii U and get a PS4.

If anything, this shows how by being vocal and making our thoughts heard, nothing in the world is concrete.
Microsoft has atleast made the right decision by reversing the policy, and hopefully this means that people who really want to experience games like the new Halo and other potential games won't have to skip out based on restriction fears.
You all a bunch of gamervists:)
