No accounting for taste. But, each to their own.
Other, more deserving games deserve better sales though.
Just to defend my disliking of Halo. I own all the consoles and a PC that plays all available games. I still dislike Halo because I don't like the gameplay and the story has, since the very first game, been terrible.
The gameplay situation is all down to personal preference though. I simply don't like it, mainly due to playing games that started that whole style of gameplay and did it better.
Story, I just don't like bad stories with bland characters.
I disagree with you, but you put more effort into your dislike of halo than most people I have seen on the internet. Bravo.
Can you please give reasons you think the storey isn't good, perhaps in bullet point.
Sure, I can give reasons.
First; the story is paper thin at the best of times; there are no motives, no meaning behind most actions and it's mainly "big space aliens are mainly bad, some good, stop them". The story tries to pad itself and add a false sense of depth by describing a history of thousands of battles and adding names of so many ships, commanders, battles, etc that have 'happened' but to me, without the actual meaning of them, without any real meaning behind it all.
It's hard to explain what I mean, but having played the games and read two of the books I always feel that the story is trying to put on a face of grandeur while actually just being a shallow puddle compared to other really epic stories in so many mediums.
Take Warcraft as an example. The RTS games set out a world which was explored brilliantly.
Introducing and also following a large number of characters, seeing progression, rise, fall and so much. There are the books and manga adding more depth to places and minor characters in game and then there's the obvious World of Warcraft that while at times adds little to story, it does wrap things up. Illidan, Arthas - takes you back to great encounters such as Archimonde.
You get much more interaction with the world set out in Warcraft as a whole than just reading inserts about the millions of people/battles/pets of generals/ships that are in the halo lore. Sure, they add the prospect of depth if it's explored, but until a large amount is explored in whatever medium it's still just 'pretend depth'
Oh, and another reason is that as a character, I find MC uninspiring and just plain boring. Sure, he's meant to be the whole grizzled veteran who has lost his sense of humanity but... It just doesn't work for me.
My problem with it is that I didn't enter halo right away. I got halo on the back of insane comments by reviewers and gamers alike giving it such high remarks that it sounded like gods gift to man, and not simply the best console (and I can't emphasize the console part enough) fps to have come out in a long time (best console FPS still = Goldeneye!).
It's still all down to personal expectations though. I still expect a very detailed story with a lot of padded depth but sadly it just doesn't seem to be there. But, I get that expectation from various other things such as Warcraft, Feist, Final Fantasy VII, etc. It could be great if it was managed properly and it got people in who cared to write about actual characters and flesh them out more.

Why, exactly, do you feel compelled to defend naked trolling? I've noticed that not a single person who has taken issue with my claim has treated calling people who like Halo retards as anything other stating an opinion in a perfectly civilized manner.
I think it's because you said "Banning Halo bashers would increase the average IQ of any gaming forum by at least 50 points" as if anybody who says anything against Halo is somehow a moron.
What I've said isn't exactly worded well but it's nearly midnight, I'm playing Civilization V and this post is an afterthought.
I do think some people are idiots for blindly slamming the game. But at the same time I know people who are idiots for blindly following the game and never taking any criticism of it without flying into a fervent rage.
