I'm not exactly familiar with the XBL community, but what is resetting a Gamerscore going to do? And also, why the hell do people feel the need to cheat on these games? It is beyond me...
They deliberately broke terms of use for the sole purpose of raising their Gamerscore. I think that resetting it to zero is the most appropriate thing they could do to them. It shows them who's boss and doesn't leave a bruise.

I envision a group of teens stomping angrily around their friends' basement, stoned out of their minds on Mountain Dew and Cadbury Creme Eggs, shouting the three or four obscenities they heard on Xbox Live the night before.

Then one of their mothers comes down, asks if the boys would like some Rice Krispie Treats and, as they solemnly wipe away their tears, one of the nefarious hackers mumbles, "thanks mom. Could we have some Sunny D, too?"
Wow, this vision of yours is scaring me...only a few thoughts away from turning into a romantic soft-porn script.

Some people are extremely proud of their score. I myself, a few Australians, and one man in Canada don't care, but everyone else does. Have no idea why.

And I don't understand why they hack either. To cheat and brag about how good they are? Maybe get better at hacking?
Theres 2 people in Canada who are proud. Mostly I fear gamescore resseting because they take away your achievments too and you cant re-unlock them so Oblivion would be completely ruined for me.

I'm just impressed you weren't miffed about the flippant tone I took with everyone's favorite chocolate egg.

Who knew that would be such a sensitive topic?
Man those eggs here are part of a religion.

On Topic: Really if Microsoft really wanted to get these people they should just delete their XBL Account, because (at least to me) a Gamerscore isn't that important.

It has a lot to do with how achievements are looked upon by some as a form of digital, er, manhood size. It's rather silly, but some people just think that way.

To the hackers: watch more Wargames. There are far better uses of hacking out there, and far more legal ones too, come to think of it.
Yeah, the E-peen epidemic is pretty bad, but some people just absolutely need something to brag about it in their lives. My friend, who plays on XBL practically daily, knows basically how people do this particular hack, since so many people gloat about the fact that they do. That is, if this is the same exploit that I think it is...

Does Microsoft really think that resetting gamerscore will stop people from doing this? I have over 25000 gamerscore and I couldn't care less about it, in fact it's starting to piss me off since there are times when I kill the same person a lot and after they look at my gamerscore they say either in game or in a message that I'm an "online gaming nerd and I need to get a life," I don't even try to get achievements but nearly all of them are so piss easy to get you can't take one step in a game without getting an achievement for moving the little thumbstick on the controller.

dont blame them hacking in games is a seriously punishable offense but here is what gets me. They ban hackers quicker that they ban the racist homophobe a-holes that reside on XBL.

I would be offended by the Mountain Dew comment.. but then I looked up from my monitor to my 360, and then left to a half full and a completely empty 2 liter Mountain Dews...
so..
yeah, I am the worst possible person to say that Mountain Dew and the 360 don't make a love triangle with a basement (I am on the lowest level of this house and in my old one did live in the basement)
BUT I don't hack, don't cry, don't eat those religion eggs I read about 50 eleventy time here, and I know more than 4 obscenities

That's like asking Microsoft to ban their bread and butter.

Will resetting gamerscores prevent people from hacking a game to increase their gamerscore?

I would think so.

They couldn't do any worse than erase their gamers score?
If you hack a game on XBL, chances are that IS the worst they can do to you. =P

I think it makes sense - people are hacking a game to boost their gamerscore. Resetting their gamerscore seems like a pretty effective way to keep people from doing that.

Hacking to get gamerscore?

Well I guess its slightly less lame then getting somebody else to do it for you.
