At least, no more than Infinity Ward or Activision are milking CoD, or Valve have milked Half-Life or whoever does the Lego games have milked the, um, Lego games...
There are three main games. Then one RTS, a spinoff (ODST), and now six games when Reach is released in September. I can think of plenty of IPs that have more games than this, and no-one ever complains about those (the entire series spanning around FF7 alone, for instance...). People only complain because Halo is popular.
Anyway, as a longterm fanboy I'm pretty damn pleased for this. I really want to see what happened to John and Cortana at the end of Halo 3. My theory is that the planet they're headed for is Onyx, what with it being pretty damn far outside the range of the rings (perfect place to stick a Shield World, after all), and they'll end up meeting with the rest of Red Team, Mendez, Halsey, and the surviving SPARTAN-IIIs. Given that some Sangheili heading towards Onyx weren't aware of the new truce between them and the humans, they could potentially be enemies again in such a scenario.
And if you understand that, then I applaud your great taste in gaming, as well as congratulate you for being one of the relatively few people around now who still care a lot about storytelling in games.
As long as we stop there, and avoid 'The Cole Protocol', we're good on the storytelling front. Although I'd like to see some new enemies - a splinter group of elites wouldn't really be able to hold up an entire game.Trivun said:[HEADING=1]THEY ARE NOT MILKING IT![/HEADING]

Doubtful since 343 has a LOT of former Bungie Employees. Give them a chance at least.SteelStallion said:Halo: Reach is the end for me, I'm afraid. Bungie is fantastic, so I'll stick with them, but I cannot bare to watch my favorite franchise butchered.
Hmmm, I actually quite liked The Cole Protocol. It was interesting getting a new look and opinion on the United Rebel Front, and the other Insurrectionist groups, not to mention providing some much desired info on Gray Team, after the throwaway snippets given by Catherine Halsey near the end of The Fall Of Reach. Plus the new info and understanding of the Covenant caste structure, especially regarding the Kig-Yar's culture and position within the hierarchy, was pretty interesting too. Although maybe that's just my own opinion...J03bot said:As long as we stop there, and avoid 'The Cole Protocol', we're good on the storytelling front. I'll wait on 343's inevitable halo game until I get some reviews, I guess. But I'm definitely getting Reach!
This made me laugh, anything successful gets milked.Crayzor said:With Bungie gone, it really does seem like Microsoft are milking the franchise (more than they were already)
I have no issue with them making more Halo. or even more Call of Duty. It's come a long way from 2003 and being purely about WW2. The variation in recent time periods gives greater wealth to story potential, and Call of Duty is as much about the story as it is about the multiplayer. MW2 communicated that quite sorely. As for Halo.. well, that has yet to surprise me. But, new studio means a greater possibility of a new storyline, or perhaps an alternate storyline. Just my observation, however.fishman279 said:Ok, I love Halo. But like Call of Duty: It needs to die now. Seriously, if they continue to make the same game over and over they'll just turn into another Nintendo.
