Frankie's in charge. It won't suck.

Who he is. [http://bungie.wikia.com/wiki/Frank_O'Connor_(Frankie)]
Frankie was also in charge of 343 during the "Halo Legends" phase... Which, to be quite bloody honest, was the worst thing (aside from two shorts) to come out of the Halo franchise. Thus, I am not too sure of his ability to preserve Halo's spirit, and I will not be following the franchise if the first non-Bungie game becomes a generic CoD ripoff, as most FPS games these past years have been.

Why so surprised? All the hate for Halo is simply the zeitgeist, like the legions of people who hate Twilight just because it exists and haven't even read the book or seen the movies. It doesn't apply to them and yet they follow the masses like sheep and hate on whatever is 'cool' at the time to hate. MW2 is a good example. The amount of trolls who 'rabble rabble ***** ***** MW2 sucks raaar' is shocking when you compare that to how successful it actually was. Chances are half the people who bitched about it until the cows came home went and bought the game themselves anyway and it's the same for Halo. Half the people who ***** about it will go out and buy it anyway and the other half won't have even played a single halo game in their lives. I fucking hate this 'jump the bandwagon to *****' thing that seems to be going on nowadays.

While i'm ranting, do you not realise that every other game and movie these days is a sequel? Pretty much everything at E3 was a sequel or a rehash. Gears of War 3. Call of Duty 6. Fable 3. Shit, even high profile releases like Dead Rising 2 and Crackdown 2 are all sodding sequels. So what's the big deal if they make a Halo 8 or Halo 9 in the future?

And all you people saying 'let it die', you clearly have not read the books. I haven't either but i do know there's still a good bit of story left untouched. Reach wasn't the only book to have come out that dealt with pre-halo 1. What about the origin of the flood? In fact, i think 'Flood' is the title of the book that actually came after Reach.

If the game is shit, then the game is shit and you have a legitimate reason to hate it. But investors know what sells, and right now Halo is selling. It's one of the most successful franchises out there and they know that. They're not going to dump Halo in favour of some other project with no known franchise or fanbase already in place. You've just got to accept that already and stop whining.

I called this. I TOTALLY CALLED THIS!

I knew this would happen. Reach being the final Halo game is impossible.

a lot of what you said is true, but i hated MW2 after i bought becuase of the people who played it and i hated twilight after i read the first book (which was boring) and i don't want to see a twilight movie becuase IMO if the book is bad then the movie will probably be worse. MW2 really isin't a bad game IMO, i liked the story (unlike many others) and spec ops was cool but the multiplayer (which was the selling point of the game) was full of glitches and was unbalanced in terms of most guns. but like i said before i sold and hated the game becuase of the people who played it not becuase they're milking the franchise.

Where can they go with this? The story is OVER. The Covenant is done, the Flood is dead, Chief is MIA, besides that one tiny plot thread, THEY HAVE NOTHING TO MOVE FORWARD WITH. We are already getting a prequel, we have already gotten a midquel in the form of expansion pack money vacuum game ODST.

I'll just leave this here:

Because honestly, what else is there to say that hasn't been said about ODST and Reach.
A collection of facepalms to combine to form the most famous facepalm of all time?

If you're going to complain about milking it, go and ***** about CoD or other games that come on a annual or more basis, or Nintendo who has been reusing franchises for 20+ years now, too. I stopped with Halo Wars myself, but I still love Halo. I just read mostly the books now. I might get the Legendary version of Reach because of the lore items. I have faith that it will be a good game like the others (though I know people will disagree with that) and I might pick this, Reach and ODST up if I get money.

Urgh...

Reach is my last chance for Halo. Hell, the only reason I'm giving it one is because dead rising 2 has been delayed again. But I tried the beta, and I'm worried the mutiplayer is just going to be more of the same: bullshit.
And what BS is this, good sir? I think Halo: Reach is shaping up to be ten times better than Halo 3.

I kinda thought Bungie did a good job of ending the main storyline with 3, but whatever. There's always room for improvement and such. Plus they've been releasing spinoff games like Reach, Wars, and ODST with mild success, so I'm going to have an open mind about this.
Reach isn't out yet, so I don't see how it can have mild success. I hope it does well, though, played the beta and think it deserves as much as Halo 3 did.

At least, no more than Infinity Ward or Activision are milking CoD, or Valve have milked Half-Life or whoever does the Lego games have milked the, um, Lego games...

There are three main games. Then one RTS, a spinoff (ODST), and now six games when Reach is released in September. I can think of plenty of IPs that have more games than this, and no-one ever complains about those (the entire series spanning around FF7 alone, for instance...). People only complain because Halo is popular.

Anyway, as a longterm fanboy I'm pretty damn pleased for this. I really want to see what happened to John and Cortana at the end of Halo 3. My theory is that the planet they're headed for is Onyx, what with it being pretty damn far outside the range of the rings (perfect place to stick a Shield World, after all), and they'll end up meeting with the rest of Red Team, Mendez, Halsey, and the surviving SPARTAN-IIIs. Given that some Sangheili heading towards Onyx weren't aware of the new truce between them and the humans, they could potentially be enemies again in such a scenario.

And if you understand that, then I applaud your great taste in gaming, as well as congratulate you for being one of the relatively few people around now who still care a lot about storytelling in games.
Gonna stop you with the Valve milking Half-Life.

They have yet to reach a conclusion in the story. After they reach it, then keep creating Half Life games, then they are milking it.

I was going by the good things I've heard about Reach, but I guess I might be jumping the gun.

The only bad thing I heard about Reach was the grenades are over-powerful and walking is too slow, and you know what? Bungie said they fixed both of them in their podcast.

In my opinion there only needs to be a Halo 4 made by Bungie to finish the story once and for all. That way Microsoft could let an alright game series rest in peace instead of keeping it on life support to keep making Halo games.

That's not including action figures [http://www.videogamesblogger.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/halo-3-mcfarlane-toys-big.jpg], books [http://www.antiyawn.com/halo2bookseries.jpg], anime (of all things) [http://animefolk.com/UserFiles/2009/11/6/Warner%20Bros.%20to%20produce%20Halo%20anime%20anthology.jpg], and underware [http://timenerdworld.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/halo-underwear.jpg]. Just saying, when people say "milking the franchise" they typically mean more than just games.

Not saying that I think the franchise is milked, I could care less about what the series does, just putting some perspective on it.

But whatever, seeing as how I never cared about Halo in the first place, I don't care where they go with it. I'm just glad that when Bungie said that Halo:Reach is their last Halo game, it's their last Halo game. Bungie has potential in other new IPs and I really want to see them break the mold of "Space Marine shooter" (even though most likely their next game will be one anyway, but whatever).

Halo: Reach is the end for me, I'm afraid. Bungie is fantastic, so I'll stick with them, but I cannot bare to watch my favorite franchise butchered.
Doubtful since 343 has a LOT of former Bungie Employees. Give them a chance at least.
I haven't really hard of 343, but if they're mostly Bungie anyway then alright that might be fine.
yeah, 343 has at least shown much respect to the series
and at least Microsoft (even if I disagree with them continuing it all endlessly it seems) has been cautious
tread softly... lol
