Sadly people are stupid, and will keep buying games from a franchise long after they stop being good. Ah well.

Ok, I love Halo. But like Call of Duty: It needs to die now. Seriously, if they continue to make the same game over and over they'll just turn into another Nintendo.
I have no issue with them making more Halo. or even more Call of Duty. It's come a long way from 2003 and being purely about WW2. The variation in recent time periods gives greater wealth to story potential, and Call of Duty is as much about the story as it is about the multiplayer. MW2 communicated that quite sorely. As for Halo.. well, that has yet to surprise me. But, new studio means a greater possibility of a new storyline, or perhaps an alternate storyline. Just my observation, however.
Yes I can see your point. But I like to see games reach the end of their interesting lifespan then die peacefully (IE: SW:KotOR). Whenever they release yet another Call of Duty it seems as if they're squeezing the life out of it and it gets more and more boring every time they do it. Same goes for halo, ODST was just awful.
All I want is for them to let Mass Effect die after ME3. That won't happen though, because they'll still make money out of it. People shouldn't complain that there aren't any new ideas for games when they go out and buy Final Fantasy XIII or whatever absurd number it's on now. It's hypocritical.
Just my opinion tough =)

What's all this milking talk? This only the... 6th game? (Halo Wars doesn't count) COD's onto it's 7th game. Final Fantasy is up to 14, and that's not counting shit like CC. Mario's up to... Fuck knows, it's a lot, and i didn't see anybody Moaning about Galaxy 2.

So stop bitching a whining and enjoy any decent game that might come out of this

Perhaps a new developer might be just the revitalization that Halo needs.

Overall, however, I am incredibly skeptical.

[HEADING=1]THEY ARE NOT MILKING IT![/HEADING]

At least, no more than Infinity Ward or Activision are milking CoD, or Valve have milked Half-Life or whoever does the Lego games have milked the, um, Lego games...

There are three main games. Then one RTS, a spinoff (ODST), and now six games when Reach is released in September. I can think of plenty of IPs that have more games than this, and no-one ever complains about those (the entire series spanning around FF7 alone, for instance...). People only complain because Halo is popular.

Anyway, as a longterm fanboy I'm pretty damn pleased for this. I really want to see what happened to John and Cortana at the end of Halo 3. My theory is that the planet they're headed for is Onyx, what with it being pretty damn far outside the range of the rings (perfect place to stick a Shield World, after all), and they'll end up meeting with the rest of Red Team, Mendez, Halsey, and the surviving SPARTAN-IIIs. Given that some Sangheili heading towards Onyx weren't aware of the new truce between them and the humans, they could potentially be enemies again in such a scenario.

And if you understand that, then I applaud your great taste in gaming, as well as congratulate you for being one of the relatively few people around now who still care a lot about storytelling in games.
As long as we stop there, and avoid 'The Cole Protocol', we're good on the storytelling front. Although I'd like to see some new enemies - a splinter group of elites wouldn't really be able to hold up an entire game.

I'll wait on 343's inevitable halo game until I get some reviews, I guess. But I'm definitely getting Reach!
Hmmm, I actually quite liked The Cole Protocol. It was interesting getting a new look and opinion on the United Rebel Front, and the other Insurrectionist groups, not to mention providing some much desired info on Gray Team, after the throwaway snippets given by Catherine Halsey near the end of The Fall Of Reach. Plus the new info and understanding of the Covenant caste structure, especially regarding the Kig-Yar's culture and position within the hierarchy, was pretty interesting too. Although maybe that's just my own opinion...
It had interesting moments, I just didn't enjoy it as much as Reach, First Strike, or Onyx.

I don't really think that continuing a successful franchise means they're milking it. Just because it's over in some people's opinion doesn't make it so. But hell, maybe they are in this case... I really don't care.

Hopefully I'll enjoy Reach, and hopefully I'll enjoy the next installment. It's too early to say anything else really.

I kinda thought Bungie did a good job of ending the main storyline with 3, but whatever. There's always room for improvement and such. Plus they've been releasing spinoff games like Reach, Wars, and ODST with mild success, so I'm going to have an open mind about this.

I can definitely see where you are coming from. My only point being that, when did expanding on a franchise become a bad thing? Star Wars is a much beloved franchise that, to be honest hasn't interested me in a while. Star Trek is also a successful franchise. The thing with Halo is that there is now a potential for growth by placing new ideas within an existing IP, more games, movies and such within the same universe but not releasing nigh-complete carbon copies of the previous game al a Nintendo. That's where I think your fears stem; from the very real possibility that Microsoft could pull an Activision and start annualising its franchises thus extinguishing creative freedom and effectively killing a series. EA, for example, was well within its right to reboot the Medal of Honor franchise for just that reason, because there are some umpteen amount of Medal of Honors, most of them bland and generic; this way, at least Medal of Honor can extend beyond WW2 (finally) and communicate a similar cinematic story experience to say, Call of Duty 4 (hopefully).

I agree that Shepard's story should end in Mass Effect 3, but that's not to say that different characters, social issues and stories couldn't rise from its ashes.

"come be part of the awesome". That would be enough to stop me from applying, sounds like you'd be joining a cult.

I do think that fresh ideas and people are what Halo really needs, how they execute those ideas are another matter though, lest all this talk just wind up as a "halo game with more of the same".

Because honestly, what else is there to say that hasn't been said about ODST and Reach.
What's that collage supposed to make? I can't make it out...

I'm not surprised by this at all to be honest. I don't care what anyone else says, if Bungie wanted it to be the end and MS are carrying on with it, well, in my opinion that's milking it.

Yes they are. SAW for instance has like what, 7 movies now and one game. They're milking the franchise for all it's worth, always spewing out the same crap over and over again without really doing anything new. Except that one time they made a game out of it.

Now let's look at Halo. 6 Games, one RTS. But all the FPS games are one and the same really.

And yes, there are plenty more franchises that are being milked. They're being called out as well. But the backlash you see here is because the people on this forum know that Microsoft IS milking this franchise for a quick buck this time around.

Bungie was smart. Just imagine the kind of money they'd make if they make a new Halo for when the new Microsoft console comes around? Make it a launch title and the money would fly in to the cash register on its own.
***** all you want it's going to sell. Most on here will ***** and moan and when it comes out buy it hot of the press, hypocrites are a dime a dozen.

It's hardly surprising considering THIS IS WHAT THEY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO DO WHEN THEY CREATED 343 STUDIOS. /yelling over.

Also 343 is filled with tons of former Bungie employees so I'm not sure what is everyones gripe with them developing the game. Lastly it's funny how people call 6 games in 10 years the milking of a franchise when we see many others getting sequels year after year.
