I'm probably one of the few here who thought the Kinect was going to be a success from the beggining. Believe it or not, there's a large amount of non "hardcore" gamers that would love something like the Kinect. Think about the Wii. Even though some think of it more as a toy instead a video game console, it is clearly the most profittable console on the market.

Well, I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Thanks for ruining gaming forever, consoles. Hope everybody likes shovelware.
...It's optional, if you don't want it fair enough. it has not ruined gaming, in fact, it's opened new doors in gaming. and hell if it goes any further, it can create jobs, which the UK/America (Acctualy probably just the UK) desperately needs.

If you think this has ruined Console gaming you have a very narrow mind.

If you want to blame anyone Blame Nintendo. if it weren't for the Wii i doubt this would have happened.

Microsoft's level of ridiculous optimism for Kinect made me chuckle at first. But now as they've upped their optimism to never before seen levels of insanity, I'm generally curious that they might actually con people into buying it - if only to see what the dirty monkey in the corner is making so much racket about.

If it's successful that's good news for the industry.
Were you saying that about the Wii, too? Because if you were, turns out you were wrong.
How was the Wii bad for the industry?
It sold over 30 million units in the USA alone, and introduced a previously untapped group to videogames.
How is the gaming industry making money a bad thing?

I blame all three console developers. After all, Microsoft and Sony didn't have to call the Wii shit and then jump on the motion control bandwagon five years later, but they did.
At least Microsoft aren't Copying completely, they took it and changed it, unlike *Cough* Sony *Cough*

Don't get me wrong, i am sceptical about it, and with the all the hate towards it, it could well fail, but saying it will fail when it hasn't coming out is like saying Urgh! i hate eggs, when in fact you may acctualy like them

Shovelware, that's how. Nintendo isn't actually spending any of that money on creating new or innovative games. On the Wii, you've got remakes of all the classics (Zelda, Mario, Metroid), and a whole lot of shovelware for the casual crowd. How is that moving the industry forward?

It's like the whole idea was to reset the industry. Attract a whole new audience and start over with crap games. Then when that new audience demands more, THAT'S when you start making decent games again. Meanwhile, those of us who started in the N64 era or further back are left out in the cold. Pissed off from the start of this bullshit.
The fact is, it works, it's what Nintendo is known for since the N64 probably earlier.

They won't change, never will, because they make entertaining games for family use. Familys don't care for Master Chief, they Care for Sonic/Mario

I'd call "bullshit" but I was talking to a friend of mine who worked at the local Gamestop, and apparently they have roughly 60 units just for pre-orders, compared to the 15 they had for Move. I was actually pretty surprised by this.

All the release titles look like complete shovelware, but there are a couple interesting games coming out eventually that look interesting. I'm probably still not gonna get one, but who knows, maybe it will be awesome.

Touche. You make a good point.

But if Kinect tanks, Microsoft won't be green lighting new and innovative games.
They would only green light games that they believe would make money.
That would mean another era of mindless shooters.

I agree, at least Microsoft isn't blatantly ripping off somebody else's technology. But my hate for the Kinect is based on something tangible. Its launch line-up is all shovelware. Even the Wii had a couple good games at launch, so that's pretty pathetic. When your only recognizable name in the launch line-up is Sonic, something has gone terribly wrong.
The Wii Proved 1 thing... Family's love games.

Microsoft (As a huge company) wants in on that as well, it shows. they are doing what any sensible (or stupid) company does. Try to beat their rival at their own game (no pun intended)

That shovelware you mention is probably to see if it will be a success, no point in wasting money on mainstream titles when you can get cheapo ones easily.

I can't wait for everybody to start eating crow when this thing hits. You guys are underestimating how much little kids will love this and how much parents will dig flipping through the menus with a wave of the hand. Your also not thinking of the future possibilities. Imagine being able to pull up a keyboard(on screen) and type with your hand in mid air. Imagine being able to control your character with simple hand gestures rather than button presses. We were all so focused on huge dumb body movements we never thought maybe in the future the technology will detect precise finger movement. Don't you see? I move my index finger slightly to the right and my dude moves right. I move my index finger forward toward the camera and my dude jumps. Things like that. Why would I need a controller when all I need is my hand?

MS has changed the game with this, mark my words. This won't be just limited to Xbox this will be everywhere in a few years and MS is the one who started it all. This is one small step forward to holodecks. Of course we still have to figure out solid light but whatever.
