Don't get me wrong, i am sceptical about it, and with the all the hate towards it, it could well fail, but saying it will fail when it hasn't coming out is like saying Urgh! i hate eggs, when in fact you may acctualy like them

Old saying, "Never judge a book, by it's cover"
I agree, at least Microsoft isn't blatantly ripping off somebody else's technology. But my hate for the Kinect is based on something tangible. Its launch line-up is all shovelware. Even the Wii had a couple good games at launch, so that's pretty pathetic. When your only recognizable name in the launch line-up is Sonic, something has gone terribly wrong.
to quote Yahtzee on this - Oh but the move's Completely different from the W ii you know how? it's got a big shiny bellend!
oh and 1 more for shits and giggles -
So microsoft's kinnect thing, a combination of connect, kinetic and a bunch of collosal wankers in marketing

Well, I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Thanks for ruining gaming forever, consoles. Hope everybody likes shovelware.
...It's optional, if you don't want it fair enough. it has not ruined gaming, in fact, it's opened new doors in gaming. and hell if it goes any further, it can create jobs, which the UK/America (Acctualy probably just the UK) desperately needs.

If you think this has ruined Console gaming you have a very narrow mind.

If you want to blame anyone Blame Nintendo. if it weren't for the Wii i doubt this would have happened.
I blame all three console developers. After all, Microsoft and Sony didn't have to call the Wii shit and then jump on the motion control bandwagon five years later, but they did.
At least Microsoft aren't Copying completely, they took it and changed it, unlike *Cough* Sony *Cough*
Never seen an Eyetoy then?
DAMNIT!

Hope no one would catch on :( realised after i posted this :(

i heard pretty bad things about that, and after seeing Kinect in a local game store, i was really surprised. Unlike the Eyetoy, this is not a gimmick i can tell you.

Kinect sensors. You probably just made a bunch of engineers at Microsoft cry by calling it a camera. :p

(Seriously; I can't remember who had said it, but there was some big thing about why they are calling it the Kienct Sensor and not a camera.)

Oh it'll sell well, by sheer virtue of all the advertising this thing has had.

The true test will be if this thing gets support over time. And with room requirement woes and an uncertain third party support future, we'll see how well it goes...

I work for a game retailer in the UK I can tell you this is going to sell like crazy we have 120 pre orders and more this week. (in my small city, in one small store, out of 4 or 5 distributed around the city and theres another city about 30 miles away with 4 or 5 more games shops etc)

it isnt even released here till 10/11/10

My personal opinion is that it's going to do exactly the same thing as wii, hopefully learning from wii's mistakes, I don't think thats a bad thing either.

It's pushing technology and culture, and instead of having a whole company devoted to family style games we have a company with a list as long as the numbers in its bank accounts, of hardcore games studios, also they will learn from wii's mistakes, wii's sales are dropping because they are just doing the same thing again and again

if a gamer nerd can work it out then a corporate head at MS can work it out

seize the family market, dont alienate your current market, then you have two markets.

most hardcore games are 3rd party anyway I dont know what everyone is crying about, So MS game studios is making wiinect games now its not like they are going to make anything important since bungie are with actiblizion now. Epic, Bioware, Bethseda, EA, Activision, THQ, 2K. All have more invested in cross platform games than in making games specifically for kinect, alhough they will most definately make some I would hazard a guess.

exclusives might suffer perhaps. I tihnk it will level itself out though.

Can't wait for all of those to rate at a 50% to 60% average. None of those even have a typical brand name to inspire confidence. The Wii tried "hardcore" too...remember the first Red Steel game?
Not sure if it lists the developers on that page as I couldn't find the one I really wanted.

Either way one of the so called 'hardcore' games has an amazing alternative development team behind it.

As in, the guys who made Killer 7 and some other stuff.

Worth a watch because of the talent behind it.

What, so they sold two...?

I kid, all the best to them. Kinect is not for me but I'm sure there's people after this sort of thing. I would probably be more interested if I lived in Space and had the room to play it!

Microsoft is promoting Kinect with the aid of around Oprah's television show [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/104479-Microsoft-Spending-400-Million-on-Kinect-Launch]. Microsoft didn't give a reason why it was increasing its forecast by such a large amount, but the Oprah Effect probably didn't hurt.
Oh, is that why MS set up a demonstration at my university? Doesn't really explain why they chose the chemistry building, but I got free cupcakes, soda, chips, and candy out of it, so who am I to complain?
Anyway, kinect itself: it appeared to have a horrible lag time, around .5 seconds, and was unresponsive at other times. The demonstration was some sort of trampoline jumping thing, hardly what I would call a game, but to each their own.

I can't wait for everybody to start eating crow when this thing hits. You guys are underestimating how much little kids will love this and how much parents will dig flipping through the menus with a wave of the hand. Your also not thinking of the future possibilities. Imagine being able to pull up a keyboard(on screen) and type with your hand in mid air. Imagine being able to control your character with simple hand gestures rather than button presses. We were all so focused on huge dumb body movements we never thought maybe in the future the technology will detect precise finger movement. Don't you see? I move my index finger slightly to the right and my dude moves right. I move my index finger forward toward the camera and my dude jumps. Things like that. Why would I need a controller when all I need is my hand?

MS has changed the game with this, mark my words. This won't be just limited to Xbox this will be everywhere in a few years and MS is the one who started it all. This is one small step forward to holodecks. Of course we still have to figure out solid light but whatever.
I don't think Kinect will flop. But, I do think there will be major complaints once the nice and sweet families meet the hardcore Xbox players.

Never underestimate the swearing power of hardcore players. =D

You're really suggesting that the novelty of controlling menus with motion controls is a major advantage/selling-point of this thing?

That won't work. Ever tried to use a keyboard that doesn't have give a strong tactile sensation? Those perfectly flat ones that don't even seem to have keys? You can't feel when you've pressed anything and it throws you off. Doing it in the air could only be worse.

You are trying so hard to get people to like this thing that it's got kind of obnoxious. Chill a little, will you?
I'm not trying anything, But when people come out saying it's going to fail, it gets annoying, no one can possibly know what it's like.

As i said i am sceptical, i know it will take alot for this to work, but for people to come out and say it will fail is really narrow minded.

Sure i admit maybe i should just ignore most of them, and maybe i just being stupid. mehh i dunno =\

If the numbers they have are anything approaching accurate, I will have lost all faith in the human race.
