Seriously, Microsoft? I mean...that's just plain sad, it's scuzzy from a consumer relations perspective[footnote]Aside from the implicit lack of concern for the game library they're rendering unusable through the trade in, they're ripping people off with the offer of a hundred buck discount for a single product when - as I understand it - a used PS3 can sell for up to $150 which can be applied to any product...and worse still, that discount is just to make the price of that product competitive with its rival products![/footnote], it targets an audience that by all accounts would already be skeptical of switching, and they're doing this for a product people in general are cautious about because of its downright horrific PR. Seriously, Microsoft, go down to your marketing department and ask them what in the nine hells made them think this was a good move.

Probably to prevent people buying broken PS3s cheap and using it for a discount.

Get rid of my Ps3?

Uh, yeah, fuck that.

(If anyone can tell me how to actually insert these as images, I'd appreciate it).

If I had any intention to buy an xbone, it's gone now. Dick move. Not only to Sony but to the customers as well, as you can still sell a PS3 for more than just 100 bucks. A low blow and a rip-off at the same time, well played.

Jesus Christ MS. Your just turning more scuzzy by the day. I would hold out for when your offering sexual favours in dark alleyways but I don't wanted to catch something really nasty.
I can see the scene now
EXT: grimy alley around midnight, a disheveled Microsoft wearing a dirty leopard print miniskirt, a black leather jacket with a pink fur trim, black fishnet stockings, and hot pink platform shoes emerges from a cardboard box. his lips are cracked, his skin is pale, and his are eyes filled with desperation and he reeks of booze. Microsoft sees a reviewer walk by,

Microsoft: Hey man, HEY! I'll suck yo' dick for a 9.5 man! Come on! I treat ya real good baby!

Reviewer: yeah alright, let do this.

Random groans and hisses are heard from alley, then the Reviewer emerges zipping up his pants

Reviewer: That was a six at best!

Microsoft: I'LL GIVE YA THREE BUCKS DADDY!

Reviewer: 9.5 it is!

END SCENE

Why would I trade in the system that has all my favorite games on it for a system I don't even want?
Basically my first thought. Maybe there is some cunning plan behind all this and that I'm just not clever enough to see how great a deal this actually is, but on the whole it looks like I would only lose on this bargain.

A hundred bucks? Can't be fucked doing conversion rates and such...but a PS3 in NZ is near on three hundy. Even on TradeMe, our smaller equivalent of eBay, they still sell on average $200+, and that's just for the console, the cords...maybe two controllers.

Or you could just trade in your PS3 at Gamestop for the exact same value and exchange that hundred bucks for something you actually want.

I wouldn't have an issue with this if it was "trade in your 360 for $100 of credit" and the xbox one was backwards compatible, would make sense... but its the trade in your ps3 bit that confuses me and makes it feel so desperate and just wierd, I mean like people have mentioned you can keep your ps3 and get a ps4 for the same price, why do they specifically want ps3 trade ins?

I just don't get it

...Or they could just buy a PS4, keep $100 in cash rather than store credit and keep the PS3.

This plan was not thought out very sell.

Hmm, I could "ditch" my (backwards compatible) PS3 and shell out £450 for an Xbone and then buy a whole bunch of £45+ games for it that evidently suck for the most part like Ryse, Dead Rising 3 and Forza.

Or I could keep my PS3 and play some Journey, Heavy Rain, Ni No Kuni, Last of Us, Beyond Two Souls, Infamous 2 and literally hundreds of the PS2 and PS1 games at my disposal without paying a single penny.

Tough one that.

WTF... is up with you guys?!

If you tried to sell your PS3 at your local Gamestop, you know how much you'd get for it? Probably $60 in-store credit. If that. Microsoft is willing to give you $100 in-store credit for a working PS3, period. But FUCK THAT. IT'S MICROSOFT, THE GREAT GAMING SUPERDEVIL. Screw them and their actually pretty nice deals to HELL.

I don't know why I bother reading the comments to these news stories anymore...

Personally, I think these sort of actions are going more harm to them then the sales themselves.
While Nintendo isn't at it's best at the moment, doing something this blatant would only make them look worse.

You use a tag labelled [ img ] and [ /img ]
Just get your image, like this one ( http://gamingdecoded.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/south-park-stick-of-truth-ps3-box.jpg )
Open your [ img ] Tag, punch in the image URL, then put in [ /img ] at the end.

It should look like this:
[ img ]http://gamingdecoded.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/south-park-stick-of-truth-ps3-box.jpg[ /img ]
Now, the important thing to keep in mind is I used Spaces to stop the Tag from working so I can show you, but if you take away the spaces between the "[" and the "img" you get this:

You're Welcome ;)

They act like they are doing terrible...just because you're not on top this time doesn't mean you're doing bad. From what I've seen, the PS4 may be selling better, but barely. It's nothing compared to the last gen PS3 vs. 360 sales, and I didn't see any "Trade in your Xbox for credit towards a PS3" garbage.
You know, I feel the same. Last I checked, Sony beat them out by about one million console sales to date. But both have still sold 3 million or better. That's a million consoles sold each month. That's not bad business. There are plenty of companies that would be happy with those numbers. Give it another six months at this rate and both will be closing in on 10 million units sold (assuming the sales figures stay the same).

That's a terrible deal. I mean hell, the PS3 has a huge library and is getting a slew of new games this year alone. I mean hell, you'd probably get more use out of your PS3 and 360 than a PS4 or Xbox One at the moment. If it were Microsoft offering that for turning in your 360, then yeah that would make sense, but asking people to ditch the console of their competitor seems just desperate for some reason.
Actually it sort of gets worse if you have PS+. Since November, I'm pretty sure I have downloaded over $100 dollars in games for my PS3 for free. I haven't even played them all, yet! Seriously, I need more time in the day, guys. Or, I need to live without employment. Anyone know what the winning lottery numbers will be?

The only reason I would want to buy a Xbox One would be for Ryse: Son of Rome. But a six hour game with iffy multiplayer is not worth my PS3 and all the games I have for it.

Even if I had no connection to my PS3 I still wouldn't take them up on this offer. It just sounds like a really low-blow.

Theres no reason to sell your PS3
Irrelevant as that's just your opinion. Perhaps there are people who have a PS3 they're not using and want the XOne. Or maybe they just want to plain ol' sell it and don't want to get bent over so much by Gamestop's pricing. How about that? Did that even cross your mind at all?

reiniat said:
And then since the PS4 is 100 bucks cheaper, why ditch your PS3 for an Xboner if you can keep your PS3 and buy a PS4 for the same price?
Because perhaps MAYBE it's more than just about what is cheaper? Either way, if you're really ready to lay down $400 for just a console, I don't think $100 more is really going to break your bank. And again, some people don't want a PS4 anyway. They want an XOne.

BTW, Xboner? Super original, brah. An incredibly sporting joke of the Jurassic era.

And you know, I heard from a fair few members here that this sale which in no way has any impact on anything really is a DAMAGING MOVE for Microsoft. Like instead of a sale, Microsoft planned to host a book-burning. Just the typical genius at The Escapist that I've come to expect.
